Ok I just did the Royal Papers Quest (3 times) and every time I open the chest I get NO PAPERS!! Has anyone else had this problem??

I've never had the problem myself. Did you try maybe with just henchmen? Maybe it would mess it up to go in with somebody that already has the quest completed. That is the only thing I can think of. Unless by some small chance you completed the quest and it wasn't added to your log.
Does your quest log say "return the papers to captain so and so.." If that is the case, it could be that you triggered that part of the quest then died, but it didn't refresh the quest.
In which case what you will want to do is abandon the quest and then pick it up again and see if maybe that fixes it. If that doesn't than i'm afraid i'm stumped.

Before this patch, the henchmen would get assigned the drop sometimes, and thus nothing drops. If you do it with real people, only one person would get the quest at a time. I don't know if they fixed this now, but if not, grab a run skill, and make a run for it.

Did it with henchies all three times. Abandon the quest before I tried the third time. I never got the "return the papers to captain so and so.." I died some before I got to the chest but never died after getting there.
Maybe I will try running for it or getting my henchies killed before I open the chest next time.
For now I need a break from that quest.......it pissed me off really bad

dsn't matter if your hench is dead or not. They'll still be assigned loots. So basically if you take 6 henchies with you, you have 1/6 of a chance to get the paper. Sucks I know. You gotta do it solo, and that won't be easy either.
If you open the chest and nothing pops out, rest assured one of your henchies has it in their safe keeping.

Had to do this quest two times a couple of days ago with my brother, cause the papers would only drop for one of us at a time. Kinda sucks...

Yes we found out that you have to keep doing it until YOU get the chance to go to the chest. The good news is that it is not that hard of a quest fighting wise to get to.

Well, I tried it solo and got mobed and died in short order. Then I loaded up with henchies and cleared the area of the chest, proceeded to get the henchies killed off, went back to the chest and the papers dropped.
I think the quest is a little glitchie but oh well I got it and got the skills for it. Thanks for all the input. Everyone have a Great Day Zaklex
The key was killing all of the Tengu gaurding the chest, leave one alive and you will never get the Papers.

Ya I thought that may have had something to do with it, but it sure would have been nice if they would have said so in the quest log

It does in a round about way by mentioning the papers being in a guarded chest.

That's false unless they changed it in the latest patch. I've killed every single tengu in the area and the opened the chest before and no papers dropped. In the end, I solo ran to the chest with 20+ tengu trailing behind me and the papers dropped for me.

You get it at Fishermans Haven but its easier if after you get the quest you leave from Sanctum Cay. The red x indicates the approx location of the chest.

I did this with a Guild-mate - first time I got the Papers (didn't see any allocation notice) and we went back...I got quest completed and he didn't so we went again. Got to chest and I was killing Tengu while he went to chest - then got a message saying "you need to get papers", so I replied saying "already done this" and got a message back saying "papers are for you" so had to pick them up and trade...
So why are the papers treated as a drop? Surely it should just be a quest item so anyone can get it (a la Althea's Ashes)...? /puzzled mode off NightStalkerXT
Ya like I said I think there is a bit of a glitch in this Quest. I think for Quest's anyone should be able to pick up the item for the entire party. That way if a henchie gets the item then you still get the quest. Or better yet make it so henchies can't get quest items.

I'm having the same problem. I just did it with henchies. The group died 3 times against the tenju and when I was finally on the last one, I died. Alesia revived my character, but when I opened the chest, there were no papers.

No no no, I did this quest recently. There are two chests one to the far left and one to the far right. It's in one of them. Me and a parter did them and we sprinted for both.

really there are two chests? I guess that threw me off since I was looking at the green arrow and when I got to the chest it would still show the green star.

I've done the quest twice, both times I did not get the drop. First drop was for a friend who had done it already so he gave the papers to me. Second time, (different character) out of the three of us players, only one paper dropped. So two of us had to redo. They were going to the one who opens the chest.

They don't always go to the opener. I just did this quest a little over a week ago with my Ele, it bugged on the first attempt, worked fine on the second. I reported it to their support group and got the following response.

I skipped this quest rather than roll the dice on getting the papers. Hopefully someone verifies it's really fixed now.

The first time I did this mission, I got the same issue with the chest (with henchies). No paper in it.
The second time (also with henchies) I killed ALL the Tengu in the area BEFORE opening the chest, and the paper was in :-) I've made it a second time with my second alt --> and it worked again! So kill ALL Tengu in the Area (there are about 10 groups if I remember well) |
