I have made a mesmer/monk, but can start over and not lose much, cept for my black dye anywho, I want to know your thoughts on what makes for the best defensive protection against bad guys, how can i best protect my team and using what abilities? Any tips please.

I use Earth magic Wards and Protection (Monk) magic to protect my team pretty much from most damage upto a max of 15seconds

You know that once you hit post-searing, you can buy a storage account for 50g that will allow you to transfer items between your characters, so you won't lose black dye?

The best defensive character would probably be a Mo/E that goes Divine Favor/Protection Prayers/Earth Magic.

Think he means he already used the black dye on his currently character.

no, i saved it so my new guy will enter post with a good pile of funds when i enter and sell it as it sells for 6k last i saw. I only ever had one character but want to be more team oriented rather than my all offensive ele.

I guess i want to know if mesmer will allow for great protection for my team, like spell breaking on the enemy and life draining or a good protective field. i dont know the skills yet for mesmer.

Mesmer's are shut-downs, not protectors. Then again, any time you're making the other team less effective, you're kind of protecting your team.

If you want to do protection in the sense of increasing armor, resistances, and removing nasty hexes/curses, Mo/E or E/Mo with Protection and Earth or Water are definitely your best bets.
