Obviuosly if this applies to only one class/s with a specific skill it may very well not be an exploit, otherwise as was said above everyone would be doing it. Exactly how can you not be ascended after completing the Dopplganger at level 20, as completion of the mission ascends your character?

Oh heh, I think I know.

When I did the mirror with a part Mesmer, my degens killed it after I had been killed, so I had to go back and redo it.

Did you get the exp for killing the mirror after you died? That would seem like the most likely case for this exploit.

Possible, but the quest shouldn't award the exp if you die first as that is a failure point, in which case it could be an exploit if you get the exp and have to repeat the quest because you failed(could also work with Rangers and poison, though that would be much harder).

Before the patch I got credit for killing my mirror, he died split seconds after I did, but it didn't bring me to the next area so I had to do it again.

Not sure how it works now, was only a guess at what the OP was talking about.

I died before killing my mirror, but it still teleported me to Dragon's Lair. I assume that I got xp and ascended (I was 20 at the time, before the patch, so I presumably only got the xp that you would get regularily for killing any enemy).

Now that they closed the quest area, can someone please tell us what the exploit was?

in case you havn't ever played a computer game before, people do abuse every little bug that pops up, there is however a difference between a bug, and cheating. If there is a flaw in the game design, guarunteed it will get fixed quickly, and it won't have that much effect on the community, specially for this one since it only worked for a certain class I guess, as for 'abusing the game' that is taking advantage of something that is not a flaw in the game, rather, something that nobody has been able to get perfect such as balancing extensive farming while still allowing players to get rare drops once in a while.

But i'll guaruntee, if you had fought your mirror and gotten 50k xp, and then realized you can fight him as many times as you want, you might be a little interested to see if you could get 50k xp each time to.

I Completely agree!! How else can you keep people from spreading out rumors of exploits... Seriously, at least then people will think twice about trying to use an exploit... it's in our agreement that we accepted to play the game in the first place... so meh.

They make this change to augury rock and dangle free exp in front of you, then when you grab the bait and start farming the mirror, they drop the hammer on you and permaban you. They should have spent time thinking out what they're changing rather than screwing up and banning people.

Grab the bait as in exploiting the bug? If you exploited the bug, you get what you deserve. Anyone who says they didn't know it was a bug is in denial.

Although banning is probably one of the harshest punishment's you can do in this game, I don't see exactly what controversy over how to consider it as an exploitation or not. If you really cared to see if it was an exploit, you compare it against the rules *Which many people have already done*, not against other thing's that you may have suggested as exploits. If they were that bad then you should just make two posts concerning them both, one describing the punishment that should've been done, and one debating on how fair the punishment given was. (Incase anybodies confused, i'm talking about vengeance and this exp glitch). I just don't get what bringing them both into one post as reference will help persuade anybody.

Edit- Sidenote: Just for the log, I do support the fact that anything that a person will do for hours gaining him an unfair advantage over the rest of the community while hiding is a exploit. I doubt 95% of the people that exploited this bug would've replied "Getting 100+ skill points an hour from a new patch bug" to somebody asking *What's up?*.

from reading here, I have deduced the exploit in a way.

By casting vengance (monk Skill) on the Doppleganer, you rezz it allowing to kill it again...(skill bug or just enemy bug..or both combined probably).

repeat...over and over...50K exp over and over.

I can see how this bug was exploited and why people would exploit it.

PS. No, I didnt try this exploit...and I am glad I didnt considering they are banning people for it apparently.

it was an exploit, you had to do more than just kill your mirror. someone said that u had to alt-f4 at the cutscene, other people said something about using vengance.

Vengeance has nothing to do with the experience bug. If you read the post all you have to do is fight your mirror with a pre-ascended character then hit alt-f4 during the cutscene and repeat. All alt-f4 does is quit out of the game so I imagine you could also just quit the normal way as well.
