Auto-Team Assembly in Tomb of Kings

Assembling a pickup team tends to be a very time-consuming process for newer players, and moreso for some classes than others. I can recall with some fondness that not so long ago I, too, wandered into the tomb of kings guildless and friendless. After some frusteration in trying to find a team, I gave in, and experienced my first beatdown alone among a group of four npc henchmen.

I would like to propose that an auto-matchup system be implemented that would allow new and casual players to be quickly assembled into an impromptu team for Tombs. The auto team assembly would function much in the same way as the matchup for the random team arenas.

Objections to such a system might take place along the lines that implementing an auto-team assembly for tombs would be pointless and fruitless because without an attempt at balancing a team, that team would stand no chance of reaching the hall of heroes.

I certainly do not contest that teams assembled through this system would undoubtedly be weaker than their guild and player-solicited counterparts. However, I would point out that the grim reality is that the attrition rate of pickup teams in general is incredibly high in comparison to guild-based teams. Moreover, the strength of the teams produced by this system has no bearing on the clear benefits that would be provided through its implementation.

Immediate benefits of an auto-team assembly system would be to:
  • Eliminate much of the daunting prospect of joining a team for players who have little or no experience in tombs
  • Dramatically reduce waiting time for new or casual players to engage in a tombs battle
  • Increase the number of simultaneous tombs battles
  • Increase the number of overall tombs battles
  • Promote interest in tombs and pvp battles for non-pvp oriented players
  • Reduce the inhibition of non-pvp oriented players to try out this fun aspect of Guildwars
The obvious benefits of this system are also supplemented with long-term benefits that will become evident over time. Among these would likely be an influx of new players to pvp, drawn by the increased availibility of tombs. Having played in unorganized teams, many of these players will eventually seek out guilds.

Another less obvious benefit would be an overall long-term improvement in the skill level of tombs teams. In the short-term, the influx of new inexperienced players and unorganized teams produced by this system might reduce the skill level of first and second-tier battles. However, given time an overall improvement in player understanding of tombs-style pvp would undoubtedly result from the rise in the number of matches due to the new availability provided by the system. In turn, this larger volume of matches would increase collective player experience in tombs battles.

I'd like very much to hear comments, objections, or support for an auto-team assembly for tomb of kings. Please put your thoughts to voice.

The single most thing that would fix the Party Terror Situation in Tombs is to ... rebalance the Classes. Did i say rebalance? Pardon.

DELETE EVERY CLASS EXCEPT WARRIOR AND MONK.

That would make the sad happy worship Trend***** in Guildwars very happy. It is awfully easy to get a party in tombs as a Monk or Warrior. If you ever watch the Spam it's always those two classes. Whenever i come with another Class like Ranger or Mesmer, i can sit there and wait. Wait. Wait. And wait some more.
If i finally happen to have a party i get kicked out of it in favor of a monk.

And PVP ist outright boring at the moment. It's always the same!? You enter it. You get beaten by the team with more Aeromancers. You return to the outpost where half your team allready dropped out of frustration. Your efforts to set a team up that would at least stand the slightest chance against the annoying Aeromancer Trendwhoring are destroyed by the typical "Need Monk!!!!!!" or "Take another monk and warrior or i will leave."

So...
Delete Ranger
Delete Mesmer
Delete Elementalist
Delete Necromancer
-> Happy Guildwars Fanbase

I think the OP has raised a good idea. Surely any way of jumping into a Tombs game for fun quickly would be an improvement over getting 4 henchment and hoping to drop into a 6 team battle and the other teams wipe each other out first :P

Then again, a better system for finding and joining guilds would probably be even better. The ideal is that every player ends up being a member of a large, established guild with many like minded players that play in their timezone etc.
