picture this: a huge wooden log cabin's hall with food, drinks and a dancefloor and a "jukebox"...or a bunch of minstrels that play 5 minutes of music for 10 gp. Money sink AND a place to hangout!

well, okay, this is not exactly new as there are many mmo's with this, but damnit, what's a fantasy game without ALE AND HOS?!

Would this be an add-on to a guild hall, a separate "mini instanced town" inside a town, or just a random place in a town?

The rough concept sounds fairly good though

bump for great brilliance!!

This could be an added town, accessable only via Ascalon main town! Awesome idea!

Umm.. a tavern in Ascalon? I don't think it'd fit... maybe in Lion's Arch?

There's always a lot of support for these things. Then when they're put in-game, you get a handful of people /dancing in there for a week or too, maybe a few people trying to roleplay, then no one sets foot in them again. Same pattern in every single MMO I've played. Why? Because it's a fun idea until people figure out they can chat with their friends and do missions/PvP at the same time.

The only way I could see this working is if the tavern was also the staging area for a popular activity, i.e. tombs or temple of ages quests. If I could hang out there while looking for a group or getting people together it'd be a lot more fun than standing around in the desert, and make sure the place was always populated.

This is a great idea. We could have a tavern in the ascalon area, Lions Arch area, and Shiverpeak area. If all the areas had a different theme to them, that would be nice. I think a tavern could be put in ascalon or ANet could make a small new outpost in the Ascalon area. Ascalon City is destroyed, family members have died, and family members are at war with the Charr. There's a lot of depression and agony going around, it would be the perfect setting for a tavern. We should probably have different districts for the taverns, because there will be about 100 people in the taverns at one time. I think the number of people who go to the tavern would dwindle down, but people would go there.

Maybe if they have some kind of fun competitions in the bars. (mini-games) like who can drink the fastest, drunk dancing, or whatever...I would like to see dancing girls/strippers but I don't think they'll add those...hell I can always hope at least!

If we get Taverns...Dwarven Ale needs to be reduced in price. Dwarven Ale at 200 EACH? give me a break. 20 gold each Dwarven Ale, because Dwarven Ale is pretty useless. I know the Role-Play community would use Dwarven Ale and if they add taverns then everyone is going to want to buy Dwarven Ale, but not at 200 gold. Bring on the flames now I know I suck because 200 gold is to much for me to spend on a Dwarven Ale.

Very practical. I would have to agree with that suggestion. Rather than just put them in randomly, put them in a place where people would go anyway. Although, if you put one in LA near merchant row (don't ask me where), it could become a sort of "trading centre".

No flames here! I think the cost is way too high right now, 20 wouldn't be too bad...

They should add different kinds of "beverages" at different prices (A soda only costs 1 gold ). And, the higher the price tag, the better or longer the effect.

I just did a quick search after I thought of something similar, and want to give this idea a bump.

In its most basic form, the idea could just be an NPC add-on to the Guild Hall that sells some of the drink at a slight discount. This could encourage people to hang out in the guild halls... Similarly, there might be a "barkeeper" NPC in the towns, perhaps even a quest to gain a barkeeper NPC in the Command Center in Nightfall...

The barkeeper could sell drinks and perhaps some interesting local food (Drake Kabobs, anyone?) Certainly, since the various upgrade GW has received last year, this concept is now easier to do and I can see that it could lend alot of ambience to the game...

Some other ideas that fits this theme:
--> open air tavern in Kamadan with a barkeep, a minstrel (doing air guitar, flute, whatever) and some random NPCs doing the various dance emotes...
--> a gloomy bar in Bone Palace with dancing skeletons that sings the bone connection song ("leg bone connected to the hip bone") and doing synchronized female necro dance... I bet Joko Palawa would sponsor something like that...

Certainly I think these would add very kewl ambience to the game.

I'll pass on the hoes, but the ale sounds good...

hehehe

I quite like this idea. Perhaps taverns could even include some sort of slot machine game (not a real slot machine as it would look way too out of place, but another game of chance type thing - Russian Roulette, perhaps?) so that players can work on their lucky/unlucky title tracks

i love that game/dance!!! lol i love this idea i think it would be great, and the barkeeper could sell things like vodka and whisky and the more alcohol you buy you get 'points' which allow you to get cheaper/better drinks

I'm a bit supprised that they have everyone standing outside as it is, with all those buildings around, you would think they would have done this already.
I like this idea. The tavern part in general anyway...ale and music just a bonus I'd say.

How about no requirements to get into the Tavern, it could be located off Great Temple (via a back exit)? Or perhaps it could be located in a "pocket dimension" available as soon as the character you've created has done one quest? I'm sure it'd be very busy and crazy between 5-7 because that's when peeps get home from work ^^.

and WTS WTB spam would be banned on site >_>
