Hello everyone. This thread is dedicated to all the travelers from the land of World of Warcraft. I for one is one of them. I closed my account in an attempt to play Guild Wars but ended up getting bored of it after a month and half or so.. I just want some feedbacks on Why this game attracted you from World of Warcraft and What you like about Guild Wars and Why you Do or Do not want to go back to World of Warcraft.
personally, i was given the impression that Guild Wars would have a much better PvP situation than which World of Warcraft lacks. However in my opinion, WoW has a equal/much better PvP than this game's "organized pvp"
I need a second opinion, any replies would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

edit:
I think that when people enjoy a game, its actually the feeling they get for winning PvP, unfair or not, even better when your team is outnumbered. To make matters worse, Guild Wars firmly declared that This is game Balanced, and takes skill to win a HoH/GvG match, but i think the majority of the wins my guild has had were from either Luck (of which skills or not to bring) or just Pure luck ;P. Meaning the promised Skill-reflecting game is no more than a game of Gamble and always fixated on the rule of 8v8 or even less, or imbalanced.
Someone in this Forum once said "HoH/GvG is like a game of Rock Paper Scissor," and i can totally agree/relate to that.

For those whos fun im spoiling, ill accept all flames =)

They're very different games. You seem to already know what WoW offers, so let me tell you about GW!

Guild Wars Offers:
-Gameplay Without Level Grind: This is not to say that leveling up isn't part of the game, it simply is never a bad thing. There are no experience related death penalities, no levels that can't be reached in less than a day of play, tons of optional experience quest rewards, and incredibly HUGE rewards for simply progressing through the game's storyline! Best of all, should you find yourself a level below 20 when you reach a later zone in the game, you'll more or less be adjusted to max. Even though leveling statistically maxes at 20, it keeps going for infinity giving you more skill points instead. Thus, leveling up retains all the fun from other MMORPGs but I rarely look at my bar... progressing through new zones and unlocking new skills is much more fun!

-Lag-Free Gameplay: Not always true, but true 85% of the time. Lag never hampers gameplay unless your graphics card can't handle the game.

-No Monthly Fee: This is a good thing... duh.

-Wednesday Patch Days: The GW dev team has released a huge patch practically every week since launch... all of which added new content that the community asked for in addition to the usual fixes and balance changes.

-Fansite Friday: The Fansite Friday feature of the GW Community Team ensures that developers have to be honest about difficult community concerns and critism.

-There is no "soon." Every development project that happens in Guild Wars developes quickly. Thus far, we've had numerous free-upgrades with the only "soons" being observer mode and new regions. It's nice to not have a month of dev stagnation while we wait for their "miracle (usually disapointing) features."

--------------------------------

I left WoW because it sucked from a networking standpoint, cost money, and had too much grind. Don't get me wrong, WoW is an amazing game and the developers are doing some great stuff with it. However, the rate at which Guild Wars grows, the skill based combat, and the solid PvP system keeps me in Guild Wars. I'd only go back to WoW if Blizzard decided to kill their monthly fee, but I doubt that they'll want to considering that they have 2 million active subscribers right now (all of which are paying 15 bucks a month 0_0... that's a lot of cash!)

I'll go ahead and tell you how I feel about this whole thing. But before that, let me introduce a bit about myself.

I'm one of the biggest Blizzard fanboys you'll ever meet. I've bought WarCraft, WarCraft II, WarCraft III, StarCraft, their respective expansions, Diablo, Diablo II, and invested well over a month's worth of gameplay for each of those games and each of those expansion. I've participated in ladder for WarCraft III and StarCraft for a long time and after WoW went into beta testing, I instantly signed up for it and tested it for a few months. After beta was over, I got on a friend's trial pass and played for a bit, too. I guess it's safe to say I have an understanding of Blizzard and quite a bit of understanding of WoW.

I'll be honest with you. I have no problems with World of WarCraft as an MMORPG itself. It's got everything I loved about the WarCraft universe in it and then some. But there was something that made WoW feel more like Diablo 2 than it did like Blizzard's RTS games... Don't get me wrong, Diablo 2 was awesome... except for its PvP aspect. Anybody who cannot gank cannot win in PvP for Diablo 2. It felt the same exact way in WoW. I was minding my own business farming a few monsters in a forest AWAY from the main road when all the sudden I had a huge hulking Infernal dropped on me by a level 55. I somehow survived the initial summoning damage but I did NOT survive the basic attack from that Infernal. So when I went to retrieve my corpse, what did I find? I found the owner of that Infernal camping my corpse and LOL-ing at me saying I have no "skillz." Is this really PvP? Of course, the experience is my bad luck, but I'm only using it as a mere example.

Now, let's compare it to WarCraft III's battle style. Yes, I know it's stupid to compare an RTS with an RPG, but hear me out first. Every hero had a max level of 10. And even then, those max level heroes can be taken down by level 1 heroes if used carefully. That is what I called true skill. It didn't matter who had better spells or a better army. Without the ability to control the tide of battle from either attacking side, you cannot call it a good PvP system. Granted, parts of the gameplay in PvP is due to luck, but luck is also considered a skill.

GW attracted me to it as a game, probably because I loved PvP and I loved RTS games. GW's PvP mode, to me, is a cross between an RTS and an MMORPG. It really falls in a category of it's own. If you look at Magic: the Gathering (before Wizards screwed it up), can you really compare it to the other card games out there? Namely YuGiOh and Pokemon? (Before I offend anybody, those are very successful card games, too. After all, look at how much they sold) I'd certainly hope not.

I'm not going to say much about the lack of grind in the game since you've already played GW for a month and a half and know that it exists but in minimal amounts in comparison to WoW and any other MMORPG out there. But there are some players that like the feel of grind and like to express it by carrying around an ultra hard and rare item with them in town. I knew that in WarCraft III, when my hero has that lovely lightning orb item, I liked flashing him around the enemies to scare them a bit before attacking. But GW's a community where you know you can't be the best but you can certainly take down the best.

I guess it's hard to say directly why I prefer this game. I guess it's because I'm a lover of RPGs and RTSs. GW certainly feels like a combination of both.

I don't know why WoWers closed their accounts for GW, they're totally different games. If I had the money for the monthly fee, I would have participated in the betas of WoW last year and played it side by side if I liked it.

As it stands now, I'm still riding the GW hype so I'm not missing my beloved AO yet :>

I got a bit bored of WoW about the time GW came out. I'm a 60 hunter and got tired of getting refused for raids -_-. So i bought GW, played it, and nothing else for about a month and had a grand old time. But I never cancelled my WoW account, I decided I'd wait for Battlegrounds to make that decision. Well about the time I started to get bored of GW, BG came out. I still havn't played, due to the completly rediculous queues. But it did kinda re-kindle my WoW fun. I've since made a shaman and a mesmer and play both GW and WoW. GW a bit less though, but i think that would change if i got into a large guild that does HoH.

err sorry to say this guys.. but the following are my true complaints from my perspective, and i appreciate all the replies to my bitter questions.
GW i know and i admit is a revolutionizing game of the decade or two decades to say, in reference to RPGs/MMORPGs. But I think the most fun i've had was The Duels in Diablo 2 exp LOD, version 1.10. It had absolutely no rules and might be just me.. but i actually like the chaos! I know GW has not been released as long as WoW, but to compare the prices between a 6 monthly Chapter for 50 bucks and 15 bucks a month is, IMO not much difference. I KNOW THIS SOUNDS LIKE A FLAME TO THE WHOLE FORUM but aojiawoegij if only there was a way to rekindle my thoughts of guild wars... Or maybe i really am one of those random noob-slaughtering faggots out there.. go ahead shoot me..

I played WoW heavily for 4 months

had a 60 rogue, 44 Priest, 44 Warlock, 40 Hunter, 30 Paladin, 30 Druid

just got bored of it tho -- especially the level 55+ content

I'll go back to WoW again when they release an expansion

until then, I have no interest in paying WoW monthly fees

I don't think GW provides the right atmosphere to actually produce guilds. Seems most of the top guilds actually were created while playing other games. The instanced style of gameplay that GW promotes for PvE certainly doesn't assist in the accumulation of guild members.

+No Monthly Fee
+Skill and attribute systems are infinitely better than WoW's ability and talent systems.

-Less Content

Apart from the vastly different types of gameplay, these are the big things for me.

I've watched friends play WoW and wondered what all the fuss is about, the combat seems so boring.

This is arguable but from my experience with both games it seems that A.net is much more responsive than Blizzard to community concerns right now.

Of course, some might disagree.

I came from WoW because its PVP is laughable-- grinds, queues, and corpse camping. Ironically, GW's PVP, which promised to eliminate traditional grinds, forces you to farm for hours on end in order to reach a point where your spells do not suck. This is why I'm now spending most of my time playing BF2 and chatting on forums than I'm playing GW. Actually, I haven't played GW for 2 weeks now. Tsk, maybe one day ANet will bring back the alpha/beta fun factor.
