What weapon to use?

hi im a Me/Mo and i mainly use illusion magic and smite, i was wondering what weapons work best with this? currently im using a smiting staff would a off hand and a wand work better? insight pls =] thnks

it really depends on the mods of the wand vs the ones on the staff that you are using right now... Wands are great becasue of the off hand that you can use to increase mods. but if the staff you have now has nice mods on them and the wand you have has non then i would go with the staff. wands are better in the long run once you get one that has wonderfull mods on it

isnt the one hand a cane not a wand for mes?

There's a few good mesmer related Canes floating around out there....but even better staffs. I've had better luck with finding staffs than I have with wands and an off hand item... Just use the best items that you have

ok so lets say im trying to buy a pretty good staff/cane with a good hand off item what kind of stats would i be looking for that are related to smiting/illusion magic?

welp, i bought the collectors jeweled staff, energy+10, max dmg, req 9 illusion magic and the 20% illusion magic cast/recharge(i believe) is this a good staff? i was wondering if i should add a insightful staff head and staff wrapping of fort, is it worth it?
