hi im currently aware of the scam people are doing with altheas ashes. After you finish the qust you keep the urn but the ashes go away. People are scamming others by selling the urn and saying the aashes are inside but they are unaware that the person selling has already gave the duke the ashes. So if the GuildWars Staff can fix this problem it will be a help to the world. Or people can look at this thread and find out for themselves whats going on

I believe this isn't just a "scam", but an issue with the game system. Most quest items are consumed by the NPC when the player completes the quest. However there are a few that do not seem to be this way (the egg in pre-searing is an example) and as far as I can tell the urn serves no purpose but to be thrown away into your little recycle bin.

As an enhancement request (or bug fix?) all quest items that serve no further purpose should be removed from play. If for any reason, to be consistant with other game play quest items.

This is a scam and people are falling for it.

Needless to say ALL quests items which are no longer required should be taken from the player by the quest NPC.

End of story.

Lots of people selling/buying ashes right now in Piken Square. Sure Anet is aware of this?

Actually, it's not a scam, as I've gotten one for free from a guy that had 160 of them thru gifts from others, and it worked.

i dont know what you people are talking about...there are scammers i assume, becuase some people have been scammed...

HOWEVER!!!

someone randomly gave away ashes to someone in my guild(50 of them) who then gave me 1 for a new character. when i finished dukes daughter, i then simply handed him the ashes...and i got the exp...so there are ashes that work....now the question isnt about scamming...its about exploliting, and if this is an exploit or not...(being able to get more then 1 altheas ashes, and being able to trade them)

i personally think its fine...it saves you 2 hours on your next character so you dont have to do a quest you already did.

Other similar quests are scams, therefore people (previously myself included) are quick to shout scam when ashes are being sold. Last night I bought them for 200 gold for my alt under the condition of "try now, pay later". I was so impressed when it worked that I gave the guy 400 instead of 200. Incidentally, my guildmate tried it at the same time and it wouldn't work for him. I'm not sure what the root of the problem is, since english isn't his first language, but I suspect he paid 200 for the Barradin Family Urn (which you get on completion of the quest I think)

Yes I started to yell SCAM SCAM!, and the people selling/giving away were so upset that made me doubt if it really was a scam.

DrSLUGFly: its possible, last night there were people selling ashes AND urns. IMO the right item are the ashes

The ashes are the item needed for the Quest, the Urn is useless.

As far as I'm aware and unless they have changed the quest, whoever gets to the Ashes Podium first gets all the ashes and you have to hope he gives them to you as well.

I have heard of some people just running of with them when asked for there ashes, but this may not be happening now and they may have fixed it.

So yes, both answers are correct. It is a Scam if people are selling the Urn, but not a scam if people are selling the Ashes, but it depends on how they came by those Ashes? Did they do it by completing the quests or by ripping others off of there Ashes?

last time i did this quest (few weeks ago) each person in the party had to get to the altar to get the ashes, which meant much ressing and subsequent dying. i had heard before this that if one person in the party got them, everyone did. didn't happen.

There are some quest items you can trade to people to make a quest work, however. The Ruined Armor you pick up as a result of 'Price of Steel' in Silverwood can be traded to people to help finish that quest.
