An incentive for beating the game.
Deathlord
Currently, I see little to no incentive whatsoever in beating this game. Fire island missions are no walk in the park and if you beat the game once (Maybe not even), you'll feel rather dissapointed since you wasted all that time for nothing. You gained no skill points to help in PVP, which is probably one of the only things you can really look forward too. Don't assume that by this i'm suggesting they unlock all the skills, but maybe add 2 or 3 skill points more as reward to the fire island skills. Any suggestions/opinions, feel free to leave them here.
spiritofcat
I haven't reached the end yet, I'm still in the middle of trying to Ascend, but I agree that it would be nice to have some sort of reward.
Even if it wasn't something that changed the gameplay such as extra skillpoints, but just a special emote or something, similar to the /fame one.

Maybe a special item/weapon/armor whatever that could only be obtained by beating the game. It wouldn't have to be amazingly good, maybe just nice looking or something.
DrSLUGFly
This isn't much of a reward, but perhaps they could up the level cap to 21, achievable only by finishing the game. It would be more token than anything, just a way for people to see that you have done it, and you rock. Except for 20 or so health and 3 or 4 energy there wouldn't be much difference from 20 to 21, but you can't tell by looking at somebody that they're ascended. You can however tell by looking that somebody is level 21
Cnegurozka
I'd like to have a new city, only avaible when you beat the game. Cities always give me the most motivation to go somewhere, i like finding new places. ^^
Ok some Symbol/Extra to your Name, like in DiabloII when you finished the game.
Edit: Actually i was very disappointed when i finished the game the first time ....

Doesn't beating the game give you satisfaction?
Anyway I also think there should be a bit more, since there is nothing at all right now.

Well I'm thinking that anyone that has finished this CHAPTER of the game will then be able to start the NEXT one when it comes out.
But the trouble is IF there was something nice in the final mission you would have people doing that mission over and over again.

I definitely think they should add something when you finish the game.
A one time award of a few extra skill points for finishing would be nice though.

Just any kind of reward that makes people know that you finished the game would be good. It doesn't have to be anything that improves the actual gaming experience like extra skill points (although I would not complain to that).
I was disappointed with the end. If only we had a nice CG sequence or something. The idea of a town for those who finished the game only is also cool. If they do something like that, I only want it to be retroactive.

open a 1k zone up after you beat it... put it in temple of ages like UW and FoW.
I think if you give an item then soon everybody will have that item. Or how about a bigger change. When you complete certain things in the game newer area's open up in temple... like completing the game gives 1 area. completing all missions + bonuses gives another area in the temple. If you give people level 21 then it wouldnt be fair to the people who make pvp characters unless they start off at 21 also.
Or how about.. you can only be level 19 until you beat the game then you get 20.
just some ideas
EDIT: on the 1k zone idea. open up a special 1k zone kinda like dragons lair that can be accessed from temple of ages. but you fight all the end of mission special bosses when you reach the end of each area.. instead of facet's.. like Galrath, Lich, maybe even rurik and so on and end it with glint. or how about a freestyle pvp area designed like a frag game . go in and just womp on people. lol.
An idea on PvP that might be good for a future expainsion. Design PvP arena's that only host one type of match. Like the mass group battle. Or the one where you have a priest. Maybe even make a capture the flag. where your objective is to go to the enemies base get thier flag and bring it back to your base to win while your flag is still in your base. if you die you respawn at your base and if you had an enemy flag it drops to the ground to be picked up. if the foes get to it first it respawns back in thier home base. if you get it then you can continue on with it. that would rock in 8 vs 8. everybody would have sprint stuff and/or cripple stuff. bah i want to go play unreal tournament now

Without giving anything away for everyone who hasn't done it yet, the entire PvE game is a story of disaster, escape, revenge and hope.
Unlike any other titles I have played, the NPC characters remain persistent throughout the game; not some guy who gives you a "blah blah blah" speech at the beginning and you never see him again. The NPC people you meet in Pre-searing will be there at the end. Well, some of them...
Wasted all that time for nothing? Why bother watching a movie or reading a book? It's all going to have a beginning and an end. Is it just time wasted because you didn't get the anticipated reward at the end?
No. As has been said before, it's not the destination but rather the journey that makes the adventure.
I too have completed the PvE game - once - and am now trying different class combinations to see if I can win other ways.
If the game was entirely too easy for you, don't use your Warrior/Monk!
I suggest a Mesmer build instead.

I understand that there's always an end. The storyline is fine and I have nothing against it, but the main thing you look towards GW for is repetitivity. The RP portion is maybe 100 hours long at best. Arenanet has wanted to increase gameplay by means of reducing how easy it is to get items and gold. I just don't see why they don't increase gameplay by making a reason for a person to actually beat the game twice. I haven't missioned on my elementalist/necro since I got to droknars forge and I see little to no difference in PVP.
As a MMORPG game, this wasn't meant to make to make people cry and laugh, it was to deliver countless hour's of "Fun". I just don't see why arenanet deliver a few more hours by offering people a reason to beat fire island a second time.
Btw, I never said this game was easy. I already have a Me/Mo and a E/N. No I'm not a newb that runs around aggroing everything and I don't think you should assume that of every person you meet, it might make you're responses a bit more direct.

I don't think he was saying anything about you running around aggroing like a noob. And although I did suggest rewards for the end would be nice, I also know that by completeing the end I'll have instant access to the next chapter/expansion. So I think instant access to new content is a pretty nice reward, seeing as this isn't the true end to the game, just the first part of it.
Luna Thirteen
I'd be content with an emote, similar to the emotes you get for reaching certain ranks. I mean it's not much, but at least it would be SOMETHING...like similar to the rank 3 elk emote, but with the lich's image instead.
spirit_of_ice
I think the reward should be a weapon look upgrade. Have whatever weapon you are carrying when you finish the mission get upgraded so that it looks super-cool and goes with that fissure armour that you will soon be getting (by soon I mean in 200 hours of farming obviously)
I like emotes but Id rather have something that is more permanent. I want people in the arenas etc. to go "ooh look at that, aint it pretty" before cutting me down rather than only using it in towns when Im bored.

Here's a reason to finish a second time:
To help some people finish for the first time.

If all you are looking for is recognition for completing the game then all that is needed is a character added to the lvl 20 like 20* or any thing that will show you completed the game and that will separate you from the players that never finished the game, and the PvP players with out giving any one an advantage like a lvl 21 would
Lief
But this game will always expand..do you want a special symbol for each expansion you complete? I have nothing to prove, just knowing I have beaten what is currentley the 'end' game would be enough for me.....
Lord Malikai
How about instead of seeing the person as "Wa/E 20 Lord Malikai" you see them as "Hero 20 Lord Malikai". This gives the PvE person a slight advantage in PvP as well as being easily noticed as someone who beat the game.
The only difference is in PvP where you can Tab through targets, you actually have to look at what the person looks like before knowing exactly what class he is.

Also, if anyone thought the ending of this was disappointing, you obviously haven't played KotoR 2 . We KNOW that ArenaNet are going to create an expansion hence the ending isn't as disappointing if you ask me (so long as they fill in the gaps in the expansion ).

i agree with Deathlord
it does feel like a cop out that people who beat the whole game don't get anything good for it.
and the "ending" is really bad. it's not even really qualified to be called an ending.
i don't think the answer is skill points, though. it's real easy to get 2 skill points on a Fissure run or something.
beating the whole game should give you something better than skill points. something like the fame deer emote.

Prehaps when you beat the game you gain access to more designs for capes? Or maybe the cape becomes longer so that it drapes behind you, giving you a royal sort of feeling.
Maybe that or an expanded stash cause be all need more storage space.

this argument seems to be one that plagues EVERY SINGLE GAME, lets face it it wasnt so long ago when pople complained about th ending of halo and that i u completed it on the hardest level u got an extra 10 seconds of cutscene...whoopy doo. its the same with every other game u spend hours battling only to reach the end and get a pathetic little cut scene then the credits, lets name a few..the matrix, morrowind, any fps shooter, hell name one game out there that actually does have a good ending, to be honest the beter a game the worse it is when u do get to the end for the simple reason...its the end..no more. i mean when it comes down to it what do u relly want when you reach end of a game...more of the game is i bet what most peopl would answer, i for one have never come across a game ending that i would say yeah thats cool, instead its more like..damn i finshed it, now what do i do. at least GW has the value of the GVG and HoH games rather than going thru it all again, and even that isnt to bad cos the challenges of a new char make the playability different. on a final note one other game that i failed to mention is fable..now there was a game that we waited years for, was promised so much and in the end though it looked pretty was far to short, had no real class development and had the worst ending ever..nuff said

It would be nice if later missions rewarded more experience points. The flat 1000 is great in the beginning, but it's no big deal in the end. If we have quests that reward up to 5000 XP, I don't see any reason why the Fire Island missions couldn't reward something like that.
Sira
I agree with Dreamsmith, they need to up the exp reward for finishing missions towards end of the game, at least from Southern Shiverpeaks and up. Most people are 20 by then and 1000 exp is only 1/20th of a skill point at that point. However I see no real reason to give anything special for beating the game that would give and edge over other players who havent, more storage space yes, a new city yes those are great ideas but this game isnt about time played in the end. Just be glad it doesnt end there. There will be more to come

When you beat a game you should get a token that cant be traded or sold. It has the ability to summon dwarven ale infinitly. The ale cannot be sold but can be traded for partys and such.
eA-Zaku
I disagree with that as many people will no longer buy ale, and one of Arenanets newly implemented money sinks will be gone.

Come on! How would it be bad? Fine! Fine! Make it a "HARD" quest to get the token to get the ale! Only you can drink and produce the ale! It worked in everquest and it prospered! It was brell's tackle box that summoned fishing bait and ale both no drop of course
