Original Idea that is not a NERF, what an idea!

An Idea that is not a NERF, What an Idea.
I feel that Anet should expand upon the PvP. I feel that there should be some sort of sporting event that you could play, and earn rank/fame in. Here is what I invision:
This is almost like capture the flag but with some twists. This game is sort of like rugby. There is a ball center field. Opposing teams must race to get the ball first. After a player picks up the ball that players skills are deactivated as long as they hold the ball. It is then up to the players team to defend him/her as they makes their way towards the opposing teams goal. Instead of the usual ‘drop item’ button there is a ‘pass ball’ button that appears for the player carrying the ball. The player is then allowed to select a team member from the party window and lateral to that player. No forward passing only laterals. Here is the definition incase no any of you never played football:
Main Entry: lateral
Function: noun
1 : a branch from the main part (as in an irrigation or electrical system)
2 : a pass in football thrown parallel to the line of scrimmage or in a direction away from the opponent's goal
After the person laterals the ball to another player their skills become active again, and the player that just caught the ball skills are now deactivated. The only way for the opposing team to get the ball back is for them to kill the opposing teams ball carrier, and retrieve the ball. Or, if that player is knocked down, they drop the ball. After a point is scored all members are automatically resurrected back at the goal, and the round starts again in 3 seconds. Teams play to the first to score 3 points.
There are many, many, many different builds that would be effective in this, and all classes of toon are useful. Monks to protect and heal the ball carrier. Elementalist to do damage to the carrier. Mesmers to strip enchantments of the ball carrier. Rangers to slow/cripple the character. Necros for DPS or to raise an undead horde as linemen. There are so many more. Slowing and DPS would probably be king.

I don't really like this, as a team of warrior/monks can destroy anything else.
kungfumonkey2
No, cause rangers would slow the warriors to a crawl, and mesmers would strip the monks of any enchaments. Then blast the warrior with a some good poison or curse to get the DPS going.
I think a ranger would be better, they have more run/dodge skills. And their armor is more anti-elemental damage than any other. Plus a ranger with crippling shot would be a bane.

still warrior monks have 2 increased run skills, mending, heal condition, remove hex, and all of those.
kungfumonkey2
Remeber the runners skills are deactivated while they carry the ball
arnansnow
charge! and 5/7 mendings are still a lot.
kungfumonkey2
Again mesmers to strip enchanments, and I do not think that mending stacks anyways. How long does charge last? you cant use it while you have the ball you would have to charge up before you got it, then if you got hit with crippling shot?
arnansnow
Charge! effects the entire team 5-10 seconds, and mend condition would remove cripple. You also have shields up!, watch yourself!, meding, watchful spirit, aegis, guardian, life barrier, mark of protection, shield of regeneration, shield of deflection, and succor (to name a few). You can Holy Veil after all of your enchantments are on so hexes take longer, and convert hexes to change hexes to mana.
Heretics Fork
LOL! I freaking love this idea. However Warriors wouldn't suck at this, especially with Gladiators defence and the ability to sprint. And passing the ball is freaking great.
It would be fun to obliterate the whole team running the ball except the runner so he had no options of getting rid of it.

What about the ranger skill muddy terrain? Or elementalist skill grasping earth? Or ward against foes? Don't act as if the other team is doing nothing, again I say mesmers. Mesmers own a monk or pretty much any caster for that matter. And if you cant kill him? just knock him down with earthquake or another such spell, and steal the ball. You are debating strategies, for every strategy there is a counter.
DrSLUGFly
though there are obviously problems (as everyone likes to point out) i think that the essence of the idea has great merit. Perhaps this could be a guild hall thing, you could have some sort of feild (make it unbelievably huge) so that a game to 3 points would be as intense and long as a soccer (football) game to 3 points can be.
kudos for fun ideas!

I do like this! I could be a fun addition. and warrior/monks would get creamed like they do in pvp now! this would turn into a battle until everyone is dead then a run to the goal, then resurect and repeat. and you would get teams that just wait for you to grab the ball so your down a player, then they would destroy you.
it would need something else or it would be just another fight :P but that's fine with me too.
kungfumonkey2
I am not disagreeing spirits are easy to take down, but have you ever came across an all ranger team that spirit spams? Go ahead and kill one of our frozen soils we have 30 more, while you are trying to kill our spirits, we are obliterating your monks.

Or better yet, everyone's skills are disabled EXCEPT the person with the ball, and the sole objective is to bring him down. <sorta like Halo Juggernaut, but not> and he/she who holds the ball has to hold it for a certain amount of time while being attacked. This game type would be a Free-for-all, may the best man win, sort of thing..It still would be interesting to improve upon PVP as a whole and add anymore games. I'd even PVP on a regular basis if there was fun involved, but as it stands, walking into a random PUG for PVP and trying to own another team has it's limits. I know there are other sets; so do not try to tell me I don't know what I'm talking about, this is just one type of pvp as a whole, though.

I like this idea, it's got flaws, but it has potential as well.

Kinda like Blitz Ball in FFX...who could forget Blitz Ball?
Tuoba Hturt Eht
This reminds me of the ball game from Unreal Tournament 2003 and 2004.
I liked this idea.

this game is revolved around pvp(killing your opponent) not a game, if you hadn't noticed the plot to the game it doesn't have anything to do with playing this game.
don't think many people would play it, why would you play this over pvp?
and you wouldn't get fame and rank, if it's a competition and it's not pvp it's most likely not gonna be put in, it's not something that's needed at all.

Give people the freedom to choose. I'd try it out.

I know we crave new stuff to excite us but in my opinion, turning Guild Wars into the olympics isn't the way forward.
