Bring Back the Char! (sorta-spoiler)
Luna Thirteen
I mean, remember at the beginning of the of the game when everything is "Char this...Char that...Char are going to kill us...OMG the Char captured Rin!" but then you hit Yak's Bend, and there's no more char anywhere. I thought there was going to be a sweet crazy battle with the char at some point, but it's pretty much more you run away from them and forget they exist. I guess they're a region-specific enemy and everything, but I would like to see more char in later expansions of the game.

Agreed
EDIT: I wonder what happened to the king and rin.

i also agree. they r very fun to kill. and we probably WILL see more of them in future expansions; ascalon is a big area with lots of room for new stuff.
spirit_of_ice
Yeah, don't you know that in the expansiont he plotline is that you are being chased by a horde of ninja charr and you have to beat them by learning martial arts from a kung-fu master. Oh and you then realise that you are actually plugged into an alternate dimension by evil robots and wake up to find yourself surrounded by carebears and pink hippos.
Or was that jsut my dream?

THAT WOULD BE A AWESOME TWIST!!!!
sorry for off-topic, I couldn't help it.

Maybe some expansions will lead off some of the 'unfinished' story lines....ya never know :///

Yeah, wtf happened to the Charr, Rin, and King Adelbern?
PvP/GvG in GW rates about an 8 or 9 out of 10.
The storyline gets a 2 for continuity.

Its not really a continuity issue, so much as a shift in focus. After the events of the Frost Gate mission, the whole tie to Ascalon is pretty much out of the picture, and then you're probably swept up into the rest of the missions from there.
And I'm sure we haven't seen the last of the Charr. After all, there's some very interesting connections that can be drawn to them and the post Ascension plot.
All I can say is, take a look at the Charr effigies that appear in some areas/missions. Look familiar to you?

i think we are mostlikely to run into them once oure character realises if he can stop the W.... M..... then he's sure be able to stop the charr from invading perhaps charr will be higher leveled then who knows :O
KuTeBaka
expantions will be coming....
DrSLUGFly
Edit: no spoilers good idea Elena
the effigies, yeah there are charr statues and a few mentions of the Charr from Krytans but I gotta say... for such a great game, the peripherals (music, dialogue, story) are shoddy at best. What the hell is the connection between the charr and the M-----? The Charr indeed have been forgotten? So, what? Now that I've made off with Rurik and even left him behind, I no longer care about Ascalon? That's where I do my trading and keep all my stuff! the safety of it is relatively important to me!
anyway, whatever... I would indeed like to see an expansion actually complete the story for us, but I'm sure it won't since the expansion will bring us to Cantha... perhaps we could hope for a minor update that tells us that the Charr were spurred on / got their superweapon from / were slaves to the M----- and/or the Mur----. Perhaps the rest of the story (i'm currently in Droknar's Forge) will reveal a connection, but there's been no foreshadowing to it and even if they do the connection will be a poor one... the Charr should not have been pushed to the wayside, chops it up too much.
NOTE: this commentary/complaint/criticism is solely from a literary viewpoint. As a diversion and an entertainment I love this game and I'm dangerously addicted to it (it's stealing my soul )

Hmm the way I understood the storyline, is that Rurik finds the stormcaller horn, and use it to destroy the charr army at Rin city, but the King banishes Rurik, who must now seek refuge in the shiverpeaks, me and my party decided to side with Rurik, and thus we left Ascalon behind, knowing full well the charr had been vanquished, and that the King is an ahole :P
Kishin
What I don't get is the implication that the Charr also attacked Kryta and Orr, and that Kryta (with D'Alessio and the Mantle) were able to fight them off.
Where the hell are the Charr geographically in Kryta, then?
Yeah, the Ascalon portion of the game at times doesn't really line up with the rest.
And Stormcaller doesn't spell the end of the Charr. Given the implications in Rurik's speech to Adelbern, it was only a battle at Rin they won, not the war.
P.S. Is it just me, or is Stormcaller really nothing but one huge glorified magical sprinkler system?

So what was the point in the horn... I think that's one of the bestest and lamest parts of the game.

Shame the wall did bugger all against the charr... but really given the fact I'm level 20 and on my charr hide collecting mission I killed loads of them.. it seems odd to why we are unable to push the charr back

The horn lowers their maximum hitpoints by 100 or 200 or so, if you paid closer attention to the last battles they drop incredibly fast after the horn is activated. Ofcourse their large numbers are still quite a threat: their attacking potential is unchanged, so rushing in is not wise. Are you listening, Rurik?
I especially like Rurik whining to King Adelbern about "but faaaather, they've amassed an army of many thousands!". Sure they have. That still means the GW players can outnumber them by about 10:1, what's the issue? We'll ZERG 'em with fresh level 3 Academy recruits if we have to!

Grawl come back later in the game as rotten necros but why dont bring those funny furballs back as level 23 or 25 mobs would be fun getting owned by a charr fire caller thats 3 levels higher then you

Thinking about it there was never really any need to leave Ascalon... with more training we could have taken them all down.
Maybe the next chapter will be about Kryta (free from white mantal) and Ascalon allying together to give the charr some payback.
Then again the King is a stupid old git who doesn't trust the Krytans

yeah for some reason the charr are the only strong story tie, the rest just pop up and fade away, for some reason i seemed more attached to the charr part than the other, wouldn't mind seeing expansions that expand on the story of each of the forces
*spoiler*
btw does anyone feel like they were setting something up with the death of rourke and the guy that killed him maybe. something seemed like there was more too it but that was just the end

Navaros
if i recall correctly, the Charr used to be a lot more prevalant, stronger and of higher level in the betas
it seems the devs have for some reason decided to nerf the Charr. but not only to nerf them; also to almost completely remove them from the game other than as a brief footnote
i don't like that. Charr are much cooler than any of the other enemies in the game. therefore Charr should not be shoved in the closet as they have been
Charr are criminally under-used in the Retail version of Guild Wars

However to everyone wondering what happened to the Prince, proceed through to Lion's Arch. You'll find out what happened to the Prince along the way.

After Prince Rurik and you attempt to save Rin through the "immense power" of Stormcaller (hey those raindrops were BIG!) He has the falling out with dad; King Adelbern.
Adelbern says stay and fight, Rurik says stay and die; and elects to take any survivors that will follow into the Shiverpeaks and on to the sundrenched loving embrace of Kryta..(*choke - cough*) Adelbern has had enough of his backtalk and banishes him from Ascalon.
If anyone recalls, in Post searing Ascalon, Meerak walks about (At the frontier gate) spouting end of the world nonsense...did ANYONE notice what he says about Prince Rurik?
I suggest you go visit him.
Other points:
The Charr love heat and fire; so they have no use for the Shiverpeaks or its warring dwarves..
The "Unseen ones" control the White mantle who is turn had made an "alliance" with them earlier to prevent a Charr invasion.
Orr destroyed itself rather than be conquered.
The Crystal desert is inhabited only by ghosts and monsters. There's nothing for the charr to conquer.
Which leaves the Maguuma jungle...but somehow I think the creatures there would eat the Charr for lunch?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Otherwise, aye, I'd like to see more done with both the Charr and Centaurs - both were interesting opponents.
Talesin
rwt2006
maybe an expansion per opponent that would make like what 8 expansions atleast lol
Pevil Lihatuh
lol well rurik annoys adelburn by saying they should go to the krytans, and adelburn banishes him. I mean he was pretty mad at rurik, and lets face it, rurik probably wasn't thinking nice thoughts about his father. Since you and your party chose to follow rurik, that would make you 'traitors' and if you happened to set foot back in Ascalon (ssssh dont tell me about map travel! ) then you'd be viewed as the Charr are, and attacked.
Sooooo in one of the new chapters perhaps adelburn will have died/be on his deathbed, some horrible new ruler has taken over that's just downright bad for the city, and everyone will be wishing rurik would come back. But rurik doesn't come back, only you, hearing of the cities plight under this dictator.

Well, this is just chapter 1 of the story. I'm sure the overall scope of the story would make sense when we get more chapters.
