Any weapon works for tanks. I suggest Axe/Sword like you said.

Then, you get some skills such as Endure Pain and the elite version of that, which can add up to ~1200 life if you use both. Since you will rely on monks to heal, you can also pick up a protection monk from your group. But if you don't like that you can add some points to Protection Prayers and use Aegis and such.

I'm not an experienced warrior player but looking at the skills available for use, I would say simply use the life boosting warrior skills along with a few monk protection skills or elementalist earth defense skills.

There is a definite advantage of swords instead of hammers. First of all, all one-hand weapons make for better tanks than two handed weapon users. This is because the shield gives extra armor as well as blocking.

Swords can cause bleeding, and their skills are really useful. Hammer has huge damage, but not only is it incredibly slow, it also makes you lack a shield. Hammer is good at knocking down people, though, so enemies can't run or cast spells as easily against hammer users. I still think axe or sword is the way to go for a tank.

First off, tanking in GW is nearly impossible. In PvE the mobs randomly attack anyone with little ration as to why. If you can corner a monster, or use other 'tanks' to trap it you might be able to tank...once in a while. If your looking for a character who has crazy armor (so you can take the most damage) your best bet is a w/el with earth magic. By far...... W/Mo are good 'tank' types because they can self heal, but thats more for solo type play. W/El (earth) cant do much in the healing department, but they can take far less damage than anyone else, they can also cast area spells that will allow your party to take less damage.

What Im trying to say is, if you want a tank, make a w/el.

As far as weapon types axe works all the time, while sword has slightly more powerful attacks, but they do not work in every situation.

Tanking is not impossible, as is seen in nearly all Hell's Precipice missions. Someone had screens of a lone warrior tanking for 7 casters in Underworld as well.

I tank for my group all the time. Grab aggro on as many as you can then attack the mobs that attack your group first and take them out quick. You can cut off mobs going for your group too. It's all about the *gasp* skill of the tank.

Impossible and nearly impossible arent the same thing! It can be done, I even explained a few ways to do it, but its not conventional tanking. There is no good way to control mob aggro in GW, you can control movement though.

Go with Tactics and Strength. You'll find these wonderful little skills down the (underrated) Tactics line like Bonetti's Defense, Defensive Stance, Shield Stance, Disciplined Stance, and Gladiator's Defense. The cool thing about Bonetti's particularly is that once you get the adrenaline to use it (achieved easily through Great Justice), if you've got 2 or 3 mobs attacking you, it can pretty much sustain itself indefinetly. The best way to tank is not to soften the blow of each hit, but to avoid the hit entirely (and in some cases do something special when you avoid it). Endure and Defy pain are good skills, but they're more for giving you that last bit of HP that you need to take down the last mob or two, because when they fade, if your hp is below the added amount, you go to 1, and people with 1 hp have an annoying tendency to die rather quickly, and this is just right out.

This of course fits in with protection prayers quite nicely, because skills like Aegis and Shield of Deflection can stack with your other defense skills, making you quite the nuisance to monsters. Best to avoid, that way the healer has less work to do. Add in Healing Signet and you should be formidably set.

SOP for a tank seems to be yell kill kill kill and charge every mob you see.The good thing is it gives the monks somthin to do.

w/mo with axe/sword and shield
bring healing breeze, orison of healing, a good stance, sprint to run away if biting off more than you can chew, and some adrenaline based weapon skills

I like gladiator armor for the energy boost, helm for +1 to weapon skill. Many shield require tactics or strength. If tanking, get tactics to high enough to carry shield, and put the rest in strength. If it is a strength shield, go strength, and put a few points in tactics for the stance needs. If you are running low on energy, equip a sword and an icon (or something with +energy).
