Troll Unguent: Useless or Useful....
Aron
The Question of the Hour:
From what I'm read/seen, Troll Unguent is either hated or loved by Rangers. Personally, I always carry on my R/Me. Its great if you suddenly find yourself being pummeled by a herd of Hydra or a lone Snow Ettin, and you need to tank some damage. With an energy cost of 5, which can be lowered even more with a moderate to high expertise score, its a highly useful skill in my opinion.
What do you guys think?

Love it!
Edit: on my Elementalist/Ranger.
It's pretty sucky for a primary ranger.

good for trapper with high wilderness otherwise stick to something that heals you instantly like healing breeze or orison of healing thats if second class monk if second class mesmer do the energy drain for your health if necro do vampiric gaze and if warrior break out the signet.......rangers getting attacked cant use there spring/ungent because of the easy interruption
ShadowWrath
It would be amazing if it didn't take so long to cast. Regen is always good.

Troll Unguent is crap outside of PvE, and even there, it isn't great. It makes a poor damage sponge (which people constantly try to use it as), it takes 3 seconds to cast (Which means it will be interrupted in PvP if anyone is paying attention to you. Not that you really even have a need to heal yourself in PvP, since you're a Ranger and targetted last), and takes up an entire slot that could be used for doing your job. If you want something to keep you alive, use Whirling Defense.
ComMan
Good for PvE, bad for PvP.

thats what i would say.
if you are into wasting skill slots you could use whirling defense and while protected troll unguent. thats my favourite way to waste a slot on my ranger.

whirling defense and troll unguent can still be useful in pvp, if only in the arenas. but if you're going to pvp in the tombs, forget it. but if you wanna try, be our guest. i bet half my ass you'll soon realize that you won't get the chance to use those 2 skills(successfully pulling it off is another matter) before you find yourself the only one left in your team and you're already on the run with 2-3 warriors swinging their swords and hammers at you not to mention air elementalists lightning orbing and striking, enervating charging and galing at you. lol

Yes. The best way to say it is, Troll Unguent isn't a good option for organized PvP. In organized PvP, learn to love the monk, and keep your own skills focused on your job, not hers.
In PvE though, particularly with PUGs, I generally bring the troll juice. With my guildmates, however, if there's a monk or two, I sometimes switch it out.

Aranador
Like most skills, Troll Unguent has its place. AT the lower levels, it is very handy. It becomes less so later.
Illusionists
You HAVE to use a stance before using that skill due to the three seconds casting time.
Dogmeat
in regards to playing a W/R, trolls unguent is excellent for PvE, and still somewhat useful for PvP especially if you do a lot of arenas rather than team based PvP. the slow casting speed of the skill makes good timing essential but it is a very cheap heal and damage sponge.
The reason why self heals are often a bad idea is because they usually require dedicating attribute points that a generally better spent on improving speciality area. However for any rangers (primary or subclasses) that are already using apply poison, trolls unguent requires only the sacrifice of one skill slot and adds a lot of flexibility/survivibility to a character. I can't think of any single skill that has saved my arse in arena PvP and PvE more than trolls unguent.

Omnipotens Vir
I have Ranger as my secondary prof', and use this skill all the time. With Warrior as my primary prof', there aren't many healing options, so it's often my saviour.
If you have it in combination with being healed by a monk, you're temporarily invincible!

In The HOH is useless becuase its the monks job to heal u and it urs not to get a lot of it

i like it but i wish it was better
