Mesmer Primary. Warrior or Ranger for secondary?

I've been playing my Necro/Mesmer, and I've really grown to like the Mesmer Spells and playstyle.

so I am going to make a Mesmer Primary alt character , and see how that works out for me.

thing is, I can't decide on a secondary.

I've narrowed it down to Warrior or Ranger. No Monk, because I don't just want to be a resbot.

no Elementalist because I want to be a Mesmer, not a Wizard.

no Necromancer, because I've already got a Necro/Mesmer combo already.

and I figure that with Warrior or Ranger secondary, I can at least have some means of self-defense(I can't get over my MMORPG phobia of not being able to do damage to defend myself, happens in every MMORPG I play).

I just can't figure out which would be a better fit for my Mesmer Primary.

what I want is Fast Casting, Domination, ONE of the other two Mesmer Lines, and ONE secondary line. that's what i want to focus my build on, and the other lines will be extra point dump areas.

any insight from people more experienced than myself?

Warrior is a terrible secondary for mesmer builds (even illusionary builds, ranger is better for that). Ranger would suit the mesmer line much better, it has interrupts that are BETTER than mesmers, allowing you to go illusion for arcane conudrum and migraine and completely obliterate casters with concussion and savage shot. Take inspiration, and you'll have the energy to actually use these abilities frequently, which the ranger can't do all that well.

All this aside, if you're going 4 attributes with one in ranger (don't really recommend spreading so much, but meh), just do what you're planning, and take marksmanship. With domination, you're not spamming spells, so having a nice high dps bow, maybe with one or two marksmanship skills, will give you something useful to do while you're timing interrupts or waiting for backfire/chaos storm to finish cooling down.

All having warrior will do is give you incentive to stupidly put your character in harms way while you're waiting for skills to recharge. The *only* thing that I can see warrior benefitting you with is tactics so you can have some purely defensive abilities and a shield, and this is really only needed for pvp. And if defense is what you want, mesmer illusion line (distortion), inspiration line (those defensive stances) and ranger's storm chaser will be much more useful than any shield.
