Admins if there is another post somewhere, can't this be a link on the site or temporary sticky?

Mine works! I just saved the page with firefox, viewed desktop as web page and set the background as that file, and i am in window 98 SE so i know you all can do it in xp. hehehe
*Edit* Exactly! Active Desktop="view desktop as web page"
I can't speak for explorere but with firefox when you save a site you can save the whole page--all support files too--so I saved it to my documents and the folders for the support files were there. What's funny is it's in sync with the website.

I've attached a screenshot I just took. Hope it helps
edit: I suppose I should of tried putting the countdown on the back first, and then done the screenshot. oh well

Exactly for XP. Click new and it should ask you for the file name and location, just save the site under the file menu to your hard drive so you can browse to it and abra cadabra it's your desktop!

i think i'm going to be really sad and make a HTML page so i can have the countdown on top of the wallpaper! I'll post what I get

We should make a desktop with a countdown timer that displays the time remaining for every country. But I guess then I would go insane with envy when it was released in time zones ahead of mine.

i'm having a little bit of difficulty because of how Active Desktop works. It uses objects instead of an actual page being shown on the back (although i'm not sure for other than xp).
Sin, can you have floating little pages that you can chose the size of? If you can't, I'll make a version for the entire desktop (although it looks a bit tacky with the icons on top).
If you can, I'll make the floating one that I'm working on now. It'll take me a few mins!

diabolus all i did was "save" the counter after i went to the site. I saved it to my documents, then i right clicked on my desktop and it takes me to that screen to set the background and all that, I just selected the counter as my home page, in xp terms. Sorry i can't be more help being i am in windows 98 SE

If this is what you mean, I've already created a countdown timer for BWE like the one in that link (minus the purty stuff but I can add that to any flavor people want), and it would be really simple to make what your asking. If you want it tell me, and I'll see if I can work on it tomorrow or the next day (busy today sorry). It'd be really simple to make it for Release date (both of them 27th and 28th as seen on that website where you can change to release date of 28th).

sorry, i'm not having much luck. everything i want to try doesn't seem to work, and IE is going nuts over the script. for some reason it says it's restricted because content could access your pc, but it doesn't say it with the original, even if i store it locally. there's no difference in the code either.

The joys of the simpler windows 98 SE...

ok i made a sort of dodgy version that works. it's designed to float so you will have to resize the active desktop object once you put it on there.
you can change the css to suit your needs. you can easily put a background on it if you wish to, or change the look.

What I NEED is someone who knows a bit of HTML coding and can make the tables look pretty on a webpage (i.e. tables). I'd also need a list of which time zones you want and the HTML person would need the cities in those time zones(guild wars isn't released for every time zone but I can add them all if you want). Or I could try and slab one together in FrontPage super quick.

If someone knows a way to permanently disable this feature just for this script, let him know. I'll look for it online but can't promise anything (I'm not running SP2).

Thanks for the link, Sin. I dinked around with it a bit and was able to get it to synchronize on my desktop as a window, not as my background, but that's OK. Works for me. Looks great!

That's a great countdown timer. It even has good variable names like milliseconds, if you already created the countdown timer and the style sheets. Why didn't you just change the initial variable:
to different time zones, i.e. here is a snippet for my time zone (Central GMT -06:00)
As you can see, it's really simple to do. I'm on a computer with a 21.6Kbps, and I can barely open the forums in 60 seconds so if someone already posted this then sorry. Tomorrow I'll be back on my computer, I can do it then if someone hasn't already. Then you can just make "instances" of the timer for each time zone and place them where you want them. I have a thing with editing code that I'm not positive of the origination (i.e. copyrights), nothing against you Diabolus. I just want to be positive you made it before I'd edit it.

I just set it as my home page.
By the way, the whole localized time zones thing, doesn't the game just release at the same time? So, everyone can access it at the same "time" but where I aam it'll be 2 am and for other people 3 am etc? I thought that's how it worked. Making a time zone based countdown useless, because the # of hours doesn't change, just what time it is when those hours are up.

I just saved the page, then went to desktop tab from right clicking on the desktop/properties, then browsed for the file and selected it. Works fine.
