what does all this 20/20 and 4/1 stuff mean?

as the title asks, really

when people talk about staffs, bows and various other weapons, they talk about something being 4/1 or 20/20 etc.... what are they referring to?

20/20 is probably 2 +20 health mods on a weapon. Staves can have a +20 health head, and +20 binding IIRC.

4/1 is a vampiric mod. steal +4 health on hit, -1 health degen.

What is "max damage"? I see that alot but when I looked at the advertised item, it didn't say anything about max damage.

i think 20/20 is referring to staffs that give

20% chance of faster casting
and
20% chance of skill recharging

which are the 2 highest modifiers u can get i believe

max dmg is

15-22 for swords

15-28 for bows

6-28 for axes

not 100% on the others, will let other people answer that

11-22 for staves.. I believe it's the same for wands too.

32 is the higest for Hammers...

4/1 is Vampire prefix, 4 health drain -1 to regen .Only 2 handed weapons have up to 5 health drain (one handed have 3 as max).
20/20 is 20% chance to cast speed & recharge (using a specific skill). (Bonuses for recharge & cast speed regardless of skill maxes out at 10%)
