In an effort to help perpetuate an active and positive gaming community, perhaps we can begin telling the woeful tales of transgressors and their actions in an effort to educate and warn the gaming public.

Ritchie Blackmore...come on down!
This Elementalist joined a group in Beacon's perch to do the mission to Kryta.
(I joined to assist with some firepower) As the mission started, he simply beelined ahead of the group, pulling all the monsters onto the party - while darting ahead out of harms way.
A well placed maelstrom defeated the first two attempts by him. I then stopped and asked what he thought he was doing?
"Oh, I've already done this part before - not going to waste my time doing it again." Ritchie replied.
I then firmly but politely said, "I have an idea: get your ass back here and help the group through this mission now.
Which of course brought back a colorful reply (spared for your eyes and ears) but essentially stating, "Go screw yourself." He then sped off ahead off our radars.

I restarted the mission without him.
Again - a call for the ability to "kick" players from within a mission would be welcome here.

Moral: there is no "I" in team. And we are not here to do your bidding exclusively - a team works best when ALL benefit from it.

Why not? More established online games have players police themselves via the forums. I'm a big fan of exposing people who ruin the game for others on one condition:

SCREENSHOTS. As true as your story may be, you cant expect us to believe it without them.

I definitely understand player policing, but you shouldn't name names without screen shots. Its one thing to tell a story of woe, I did it myself a day or two ago, but I didn't name names precisely because its wrong to do it without screen shots.

I agree that names should be brought up, but I also agree that there should be some proof other than your words against ours. Taking a screenshot in-game is trivial, and while it may be hard to contain all the stupid actions in a couple of screenshots it will go far to validate claims like this.

Along with a little bit of proof though, I'm highly in favor of singling out the bad apples in the group as a warning for everyone else when choosing members for a mission or PvP battle.

On the ring of fire islands I had the pleasure to met a Wa/N in full platemail that loved to run around in circles with his BOW, doing nothing but random aggroing and running away.

I also met a few monks with really bad attitude, ignorant and arrogant "you cant do it without me" (while playing worse than any hencheman) or healing only self while behaving like a stupid Palladin "im the best player ever" (died in a few seconds) there.

I could stage and edit a series of screenshots to utterly incriminate any one of you, and I'm sure anyone else who dicked around with Photoshop for five minutes could as well.

Yes but the validity can usually be verified by other group members.

But we can't prevent people from purposefully leading hollow, meaningless lives -- they are driven by forces not well understood by the rational human beings.

The fakes aren't usually too tough to spot. Screenshots are the only 'proof' of anything the game affords us, and they're much more work to fake than simply throwing a thread up here filled with names of people you're pissed off at.

They're CERTAINLY better than no screenshots where a thread like this is concerned.

Most of my stories would be your standard not-listening or penis-drawing or quitting in the middle of a mission type story. I have a LOT of those. LOL

But I was in a mission group with one guy who started cursing at me and screaming NOOB when I asked a question. ONE question about the mission, a reasonable one given that I had never tried this mission before. One short, easy to answer question. We hadn't even started the journey yet, we were waiting for one teammate to instance in. When I asked him why he wanted to be so rude he got even more insulting and nasty. It was actually weird, like watching a crazy person just explode. Nobody else said anything, they just winked out, one by one. Bye bye crazy man. I stood there for awhile watching him sort of...implode with anger...as the group deserted him. It was just really bizarre.

I like to consider myself a 'mature' player who doesn't aggro, leave, etc...but penis drawings crack me up for some reason.

Hmm. Couldn't really provide a screenshot for this one even if I'd had the foresight to take one, and can't really remember names:

Group of guildies got together to help a lower level guildy get through Bloodstone Fen (aside: I have the WORST luck with PUGs on that mission, no idea why). There were 4 of us, so we picked up a couple stragglers in town to help out, which in retrospect was both unnecessary and unwise (since three of us were 20's, we didn't need 6 for that mission).

Turns out they knew each other IRL. One, an elementalist, was pretty talkative albeit REALLY hard to understand...I think she (using char gender) was spouting song lyrics or something. Either that or completely bat-**** insane. The other, a Wa/Mo (of course), never said much of anything. Red flags were going up within 2 minutes of starting, but unfortunately there is no in-game /kick command.

We decide to do the Bonus. In this bonus, you are NOT supposed to attack a certain set of monsters, who will attack you but are relatively harmless. Twice, TWICE we said "do NOT attack x, just run by". The Ele confirmed. And, of course, the very first encounter with monster x, the Wamo goes in and starts wailing away. We scream "STOP" and "WTF are you doing?!" (even the Wamo's friend), only to be ignored. Bonus failed. At that point, for some reason, the two of them decide to split off and go kill every OTHER monster x they can find, just for the hell of it, while the four of us complete the mission.

It really rankled that these two losers got a free mission out of this. We switched to guild channel and tried to come up with some way of punishing them, but couldn't really think of anything short of restarting the mission. Later I thought we could have waited and let them try and take the mission ending solo (or duo), but that would have taken a while, and even dead they would have gotten the mission when we finished it. Can't think of a way to persuade/trick them into leaving. Can you?

I was team up with a level 16 E/Mo and she was running with me (level 12 W/E and a level 10 W/E) we were suppose to go exploring the map but half way throught, this level 16 E/Mo just dropped off and left me and the other warrior alone to face a group of charrs...

I have been in groups where people just ran around same as before. I have also accidently dropped from a group because of my internet connection failing which really annoyed me.

Was in a group where no one knew where to go so I went looking in one direction and got trapped/killed by a bunch of monsters, the group all but a monk got all pissed off at me and left me for dead. The monk was nice enough to bring me back to life.

And I have also seen lots of 8===> drawings by a few people in Lion's Arch. silly people. Grow up.

Yes, it totally sux when someone in your group does something stupid on purpose or disses other teammates for no apparent reasons. I think that a group leader should be able to kick anyone out of a mission.

The ability to kick players could be a good weapon against griefers, but it could also become a new tool for them... Just think if one of these guys is the team leader... Then he'll have the chance to kick the entire group two seconds before completing a mission, just for laughs... That would be kinda annoying too, don't you think? Maybe some kind of voting system would work..?

No, actually that is the entire conversation and it was out of the blue. I have never met this person before and the screen shot was only edited to remove the other names. If you want the unedited version just let me know and I'll pm it to you. This really was an unprovocted flame

I like drawing on the map random smilies and stuff while we're wandering around, but if we're in battle or something, I'm concentrating too much to do stupid things. So if someone does stupid stuff on the map while we're doing something else, I don't care cause I have other things to worry about.

I still vote for the vote kick system where it doesn't kick them from the instance, but from the party and ass kicking commences.

Clearly the guy is angry with you, but aside from saying a few unpleasant things I don't see what he did that was so awful. Geeze, he didn't even cuss you out. If that is the most abuse you've gotten, you are oversensitive.

Hmmm...I wonder what YOU did that made him feel you were a bigot.

I think the deal with Grace is that she is the Leader of a Christian guild, who are devout and stuff, I guess. The flamer was probably some over-zealous guy who wants to keep religion out of the game.

Yes, that conversation is a response to a thread on this board (since this is the only board I visit)...the sheer fact that I'm a Christian was the reason for the flame. ANet is great though as I got a response about twenty minutes

Getting the topic back on track, not that this is a stupid/n00b thing, but I had a party member in shiver peaks carry a keg the entire mission. It was pretty funny to see him in the cutscene holding that thing.

No, his flame of me was a response to another topic on GWG. The only reason I didn't remove the name was so that others can know who this is. Not trying to start a flame war, and as far as I'm concerned the issue is dead and over

Most of the groups I've been in were Pickup and almost all have been good. I got in one group going to Lornar's and we got a 2nd monk that kept saying one more minute one more minute.

We all were patient and waited, even through his one log off and log back on. Then we get in there and started killing. We got through a few monsters easily and he started spamming,

"SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP"

Line after line for about 20 lines. Nobody had even said a word word to him. The rest of the group had talked strategy while we were waiting for him and we'd barely said a word at all in combat.

Finally he stopped and somone in the group said, "Dude Chill out" and the monk went on a rampage of swearing and drawings and started spamming the lines of shut up again.

Luckily he then quit the group and we could move on. I was worried we'd all have to map back and not be able to stay in a group.

We couldn't use group tell or even whisper easily because his spam ran it up past the screen so fast.

I'll never understand people like that. It was my only real griefer story though. For the most part I've been lucky.

This may or may not be outrageous, but I thought it merited some attention, especially seeing some of the reactions to the "Christian" guild in this thread.

I joined my first guild at lvl 2 with my first character. I stayed with that guild until I had gotten to lvl 20. It was a small guild, with about 12 members, only a couple of which played actively. These few, however, were fun people and I teamed with them as much as possible.

Shortly after I got to lvl 20, one of the other active members in the guild suddenly quit. I too was disatisfied with constantly having so few people to play with, so I PM'd them and asked about the new guild they had joined, lookng for some new options and new people to play with.

Here's how the conversation went:

Me: So, you found a new guild? Do you like it?
Him: Yeah, its great! Why? You want an invite?
Me: Well, I have been looking around a bit.
Him: No prob! I'll have an officer send you an invite!
Me: Ok, thanx...I'll check it out.
Him: One thing though. You're Asian, right?
Me: What?
Him: You're Asian, aren't you?
Me: Um...no.
Him: Oh.
Me: Why does that matter?
Him: It's an Asian-only guild only azns can play in it.
Me: Um...seriously?
Him: Yeah sorry bye.

So, I was excluded from a new guild because I wasn't "azn".
Now, it's just a game and people can do whatever the heck they want in their guilds, but I found this one a bit perplexing. Especially so, since I've seen stuff like this announced more than a few times while sitting in town.

It didn't really bother me, but I wonder what the reaction would be if I started a guild that was "white-only" and asked members if they were "pure-white".

Probably not very good.

You would be drawn and quartered in the middle of LA. See, it's politically permissible to discriminate against whites or males, but try it against any other race or gender and you're public enemy #1.
