Does Holy Wraith and Retribution Stack?

As a monk if i used Holy Wraith and Retribution, and targeted myself, does that mean whenever someone attacks me i can deal back 99% damage and lose 10 energy? all im asking is if they can stack

As far as i know they do stack, but i havent done an actual test of it recently and they might change it before release, so you never know... but as far as i know, i think it was two months ago i was testing monks, and it did stack, but it's only for melee damage... so have fun with it ^.^

It's also possible that they could have changed it since then so that you can't stack your skills in such a way, since dealing back 99% damage and having them lose 10 energy with each hit seems a little extreme.

By the way, you might want to watch out for your sig there Worldx, seems to be a lot larger than 120 pixels in height

The feeling I'm getting from Guild Wars is that the skills do exactly what they say they do. In fact, i was reading some strategy tips and it said plan what order you place your debuffs/buffs in because it can make a difference.

Most MMORPGS have diminishign returns or crap like that. I think we'll see exactly what the skills say happen, unless prevent by player skills. None of the game mechanics balance crap.

The 10 energy loss is for the user, the 99% dmg is melee dmg reflected back to the attacker.

I can confirm that they do stack, but what I'm wondering is, is the damage totally armor ignoring ? Or does it take the same form as it was given (i.e, if you take physical damage then physical damage is dealt back to target) ? Also, if you have Life Bond/Life Barrier on the same target, is the damage by Wrath/Retribution calculated before these enchantments take effect? Does the order in which they are applied make any difference ?

If for some reason they dont stack, then ANET realyl needs to change the azure shadows in Whitman's Folly, because when they use it , they seem to stack just fine

I've tried it. The mobs are going to suck you dry with a single attack cycle, so you basically have to have a way to survive and suplement your holy wrath/retribution combo with zero energy. Only thing i can think of at the moment is signet of judgement. The other problem is that in order to be dealing alot of damage with the combo, you have to take alot of damage as well! Its hard to do this and stay alive long enough for you to kill alot of monsters.

Additionally, once you hit 0 energy, both enchants will drop.

You'd need to pack blessed signet, mantra of inscriptions (so that you can pop blessed signet quickly), and you might want to carry an additional something that gives you energy when enemies attack (maybe Spirit of Failure).

Current Skill list:

Retribution, Holy Wrath, Blessed Sig, Spirit of Failure, Mantra of Inscriptions, Essence Bond, and Balthazar's Spirit - room for one self-heal.

Worth a try. Don't think it will work though.

Not true, you are not losing pips of energy regen, which is what is needed to keep these running. I've used Holy Wrath on both my wa/mo and monk and been able to run either 2 or 4 endlessly. You don't have any energy to operate with, which is fine for an adrenaline using warrior or signet using monk.

And don't bother to bring any energy skills unless it is the first thing that you use in a fight because at -10 energy per attack you will have no energy in the blink of an eye.

Note that it reflects attack damage of any sort - melee, bow, wand, scorpion stinger, whatever - but does nothing against any kind of spell. Just attacks.

Ah, yes, good point. If you were using 4 or more maintained enchants, then yes, something would drop. But with just these in place, then you'd keep going.

Just goes to show how unfair those nightmares really are. Has anyone ever seen the nightmare's Holy Wrath stop reflecting damage because it ran out of energy?

Clarification: You can maintain as many enchantments as you have pips of energy regen, even if you have zero energy. So a warrior can run 2, ranger 3 and casters 4.

There are some spells that specify that they end if your energy reaches zero though. Holy Wrath is not one of them.
