Factual Response: World of Warcraft.

Merely because much of WoW involves spaced out content.

i prefer more action than bigger map
i think guildwar already has a big map as bonus...hence guildwar is my type of game lotsa action, lots of place to tour around
remember expansions too

I believe if the devs do add the amount of content in expansion packs. Then eventually it'll surpass WoW with even more content inside of the maps rather than just adding a big piece of land with nothing. I think taking it step by step making sure that each map has loads of content like what the devs are planning (or so i think) is a great idea.

The WoW map is larger and mostly seamless. Making for a more natural feeling world but also for longer travel times.

That bigger WoW map isn't much fun when you have to run for 5 minutes to quest area...

Before reaching lvl 60 in WoW i am sure i spent more than a real days worth of time traveling, on mount,gryph,tram...... This isn't including the short little runs from monster to monster. In terms of content WoW looks like it has more PvE from what i have seen but atm it has almost no PvP content rather than running around getting ganked by rogues who stealth and kill you while you are 1/4 health and fighting a monster ><. GW will have more content when expansions come out since WoW is almost done they just need to add in Northrend and quelthalas as well as battlegrounds and honor. I was so pissed when i realized i had gotten to lvl 60 and the only end game content they had was 4 or 5 instances WTF!!?? GW has instances everywhere. Those 4 or 5 insantces are the only things to do in WoW endgame just farming for items with 1% drop chance because items seem to make the player in WoW. When i got lvl 60 i think i had about 1000 less health and 1500 less mana than other players because of bad luck w/ item drops. I am just ranting about WoW sry but i am biased after my bad end game experience in WoW so i am just hoping that GW can do much better.

Ski11z > items imo

ack enough of these map questions...

SIZE DOESN'T MATTER (heh)

GW is all about focus, and it doesn't waste time with fillers; be it map space, skills, classes, clothing, weapons...(and "whats left, but a pen and paper game?" you ask...) ...great art, feel, content, action, beauty, simplicity, diversity... are all more plentiful in GW than any other game out there. Big map, or bigger map. It aint the point folks.

EDIT: How can you even compare a game that's been around the block to one that hasn't even been released yet? In my mind, if you even think there is competition, GW has won it - this is only the beta.

If your looking for a game with large maps, look at the game Dark and Light

WoW has a bigger map but it is less fun. Even though the map is bigger there is less action and a lot of running between things. Guild Wars map is like half the size of the full WoW map but much more packed with action making it a lot more fun.

Over the years I am sure the GW world will be huge. I would rather have a smaller map with more things to do, then a large map and spend half my time running somewhere for a quest, e.t.c.

wow sucked. i was in the open beta and it started off ok but then blizzard put their heads up their butts. running around the map became a moot point once i got my mount. but beyond that the game wasn't much fun. i started playing city of heros recently and cancelled my account 2 weeks into it...that game is atrocious, awful community and boring gameplay...i'm hoping this game blows all of them away.

my one concern is that since it's free to play content and patches won't come as quickly as they should.

RELEASE THE GAME NOW! , i dont want to wait a week for the next beta

the streaming technology means that a fix or patch will be put in fast enough to make your head spin

no waiting weeks or months for the issue of a formal patch

it will be streamed in and you wont even notice most of the time

as for free being inferior think about this

they are working a completely different business model

WoW isn't that big. My CoH character, if he could sneak into WoW, could sumerjump from one end of WoW to the other in about 3 jumps.

It just seems big because (1) you move slow; (2) you are constantly hemmed in by obstructions like mountains and cliffs and impassable forests; and (3) it makes you take a circuitous path everywhere you try to go.

To be fair, Guild Wars use (2) and (3) big time to make maps feel larger as well.

What is cool is that something happens everywhere in the GW maps, you have to fight your way through them.
