A few questions about the Doppelganger
DrSLUGFly
okay... I've fought the doppelganger (quite succesfully... he's easy if you understand the strengths and weaknesses of your own character) three times. The first time I fought him, I saw a message before the fight started: Beat the Doppelganger in under 50 seconds for bonus.
Q1- what's the reward for the bonus, how can I tell that it was successful or not? There are no sheilds or swords for augury rock.
Then I fought the Doppelganger again to get the bonus, but I had beat him before the message even faded out (like 15 seconds or something). I later fought him a third time in the hopes of getting into the Mesa to look around. During the cutscene, we could see in the Mesa and it was stunning, gorgeous...
Q2- is there any way possible to get into the Augury Mesa without fighting the Doppelganger and/or triggering the cutscene out of the Mesa? I desperately want to look around... perhaps with my monk I could equip only heal spells so that neither of us would ever die

bonus is worth 1,000 XP, IIRC.
I actually had a warrior with endure pain, and ran around for a good bit, it was fun. That was on my 18th time through. Hey, I do the mesa mission for the weapon drops, not the 50K XP. Noooo....noooo, that'd be crazy! hey! put down the ban stick! put it down!
As to getting in, not that I can tell, without being on the testing team.

Ra/X would probably work better.
Dodge
Escape
Lightning Reflexes
Whirling Defense
Throw Dirt
Troll Unguent
Healing Spring
Quickening Zephyr or some heal or evade from another class.
Let's see him hit you now! :-P

actually, you can leave skill slots empty, that's how I beat him so easy, I only took firestorm (which he's too stupid to step out of), fireball (which will hit me) and pheonix (which he's too stupid to use at close range) 1,2,3 then a couple hits with my flare and he's down for the count
But with all healing skills, I can surely keep myself over and above his wand strikes, or whatever my secondary will be at that time.

So is this Doppelganger supposed to be your mirror still? If so I wonder why when I fought him with my sword-wielding warrior he used a bow...

why did they named your mirror image "Doppelganger"? that's a stupid name. anyway, my first time fighting with Doppelganger was with my first character R/Mo. boy did i had a hard time. it took me 5 tries to kill it. with my second character an E/Me, i defeated Doppelganger less than 10sec. Doppelganger is too stupid to move out of firestorm, LOL. firestorm, conjure phantasm, and flare did the trick.

Well, a Doppleganger is an exact copy of a person created from resurrecting someone else's dead body along with some items of the living person such as hair or nail clippings using necromancy in literature.
I think they thought it sounded more sophisticated than mirror self.
I play a monk and didn't read any spoilers but I don't see any way a monk could get that bonus. I couldn't beat him in the ten minutes that counted down, it took me about 25 minutes of doing everything I could to stay alive before I could get him.
I've heard somewhere that he wouldn't use breeze but I didn't want to win like that so I took my normal spells along with a couple offensive ones.
Maybe that bonus is for smiting monks.

I have a question about the Doppleganger, Where do I run into this part of the missions? Is it part of the desert missions?
Mario 64 Master
You have to beat all three of the desert missions and then talk to the Priest Zahmut in Augury Rock.
