that is just too funny. but he is most likely a smiting monk and doesn't want to be bothered by everyone and their moms to heal them. they just want to play the Holy Warrior role. it almost makes sence to name your self that just to keep the confusion at bay. everyone knows going in that he is not a healer. good stuff there!

I try and group with pugs whenever possible. Its nice to meet friendly funny people. Heck I try get em on my ventrilo server for kicks.

I am not an immature being, I have kids, have been through college, with a full time job of 5 years ... a beautiful lovely better half. She doesnt like GW all that much though ...

But yes ... some names do relate to player maturity ...

(imo) This started in beta unfortunately ... I noticed closer to the final betas ...

My character is weelll <<< Xgammon Baneseye ... normal, typical ... rpg ranger of mine. One of my friends started this game and his beta name was Let Get R Done ... because his famous saying was always Get R Done ... he even has a gecko named Get R Done ...

well soon after a couple betas after I started seeing more of this ... I dont mean to credit my friends lack of creativity but it was a beta ... I thought it was kinda funny ... so I created my pregnant girlfriend Gasius Maximus ... lol ... you can tell she didnt take to that ... and in beta when my guild needed a warrior i had to build a pvp and called it Bam Your Dead ... thinking it would intimidate people ... (dont know what I was thinking) ...

anyways I dont believe it has to do with maturity .... we all too old, boring and calm to fall into those days ... although I may take it as a 'youthful' compliment ... but I do see young kids in town with silly names yelling stuff about crap and poop and flirting with girls and all that stuff let alone a full out argument.

Its just people ... hit or miss ... nothing related ... hell I saw a funny name last night in the ToA ... Noob Cannon .... c;mon thats kinda funny.

I was running with a MTG theme for a while where I would name characters after some of my favorite Decks.
My Warr/Mo is White Weenie
I had a mesmer named Blue Permission
and a ranger named Green Utility

for PvP I usually run with a character name "Spirit of Winter" mostly because I would assume people would ignore a monk with a name like that

I hope people dont hate me for not being named "Galstaff Sorcerer of Light" or something like that. Arent MTG names geeky enough?

Personally I wouldent ever mind being teamed with someone named "Lulu the Monk"

I think if anything non-RP funny named characters hint at a person more capable of creative thinking.

but I also agree that I am not going to send an invite to "Luke Skywalker the Roxxinator"

I dont think people should judge a book by its cover. I tend to let the player define him/herself not a name. But this is coming from a guy calling himself M Dew.... So do not mind me. I'm just passing thru.

I don't think people should judge a book by its cover too, but to an extent. People create an impression on other people based on how they look/handle themselves. Then that impression gets modified once you start talking to them, and constantly change (probably) the more you get to know them. But I think first impression does matter. If you're interviewing someone for your company, then how they present themselves will make a big impact (if anything, for the first few minutes). If you're walking on the street and you see another person walking towards you looking shifty and holding what looks like a gun, then it's natural to get your defenses up and perhaps cross the street. In GW, if someone named "Imma Great U Suxxors" is looking for a group, I tend to look the other way ... but that's me

I make imaginative names. One was Despairs Only Love (necro/ranger) then another one is a character from a book i'm writing. His name is Swarnt Brightstar (Ranger/Monk) he was my first character and decided to name all my characters under the surname of Brightstar

then I have those funny names that I made at 6am when my brain went dead, like Death healer (a necro/monk) whereas he was actually a blood magic smiter, just to mess up peoples minds ... no clue why though...

Oh I agree completely. I had the opportunity to see and report these following "highest quality players of superb gamemanship":

Lethal tig bitties
Lethal pee nus
sick ducker

Imagine the RP opportunities! Boundless!
Shall I go on?
Thsre were all real characters in Guild Wars as of last night. Regardless, IMHO you opinion is most likely referring to some other game, final fantasy perhaps?

When I started playing, I would have agreed with you completely. And I did, giving players the benefit of the doubt and teaming up with pretty much whomever asked, regardless of their name or profession.

Unfortunately, experience has taught me to be more selective. My time is valuable, even when invested in an online distraction such as GW. Life is too short to put up with the horrible experiences that partying up with "Mr Long Balls", "HealUrslfBytch", "L33T Skywalker" and "PwnzUrMama" inevitably lead to.

My names are the same, except with Crow or Crowskie instead.

My Diablo II names were more creative, though. My friend and I were Shooty McArrow and Stabby McSword for a while. My latest characters were Nota Wookie and similar stuff.

I did have a Warrior named Me Not So Good and currently have one named Big Distraction.

Yeah I guess I can see where you all are coming from. I was not trying to sound like a butt nugget. But I mean even after a month + of play I still really think nothing of names. I can not say, if I have or have not teamed with someone with a so called leet name. I don't recall. I use to see them alot in towns. Before they started banning accounts hardcore for names. But really I have not seen to many in a day or two.

I tend not to group with people with names like "ownz joo" or "ass sandwich" or whatever... I suspect it's usually PvPers. Not to say that PvPers are less creative, but part of the reason we make cool names is because we're into the role play aspect. PvP players (pvp only) are less into the role play and basically just want to fight. A name is relatively unimportant for them, so less thought is needed.

I don't group with them because I get nervous about them leaving right after a skill capture or a bonus completion.

My names, Henrietta the Mule (who has about 1 week left till execution), Dr Slugfly and Father Fishmage. Don't have a third, keeping one slot open as an emergency slot and haven't yet decided on a name for my new character after killin Henrietta.

I tend to avoid the RPG names. I try to go more reference to stuff I like I spose, the warrior is "general handgrenade" (ALA the trooper song) The ranger is steve mcqueen (My name is steve) My necro is Dr No, which is because Dr orpheus was taken (Venture bros charecter) and I have a mesmer named Das Butt (simpsons porno flick).

Those aint too immature are they.

Well, at least it's not Pillz Popper.... I have been Role-playing for about 20 years now, and have memorable (if not just downright cool) experiences w/ chars of all sorts of names.... some just for an example.... Arg Barbender, a D20 1/2 ogre with the mind of a naughty child.... Ozmodius "Ozzy" Tran, a 2nd ed. kleptomaniac halfling thief who likes trees.... Darn Spoonbender, a 3rd ed. psionic dwarf who thinks there is no spoon.... Dave Smith, a stunt-driving college student trying to make his place in the world.... Rydia Starshine, a 3rd ed. halfling hedge wizard that distracted by flora and fauna....

I could name alot more, but I'm late for work.... I take names personally.... no matter what anyone says, "it's all in the name!"

For those who uses PUGs often, do you guys see any correlation between the character's name and the players "competence"? I know there are some exceptions, but in general? When forming PUGs and/or helping someone, I tend to not respond to those named "Mr Buff Warrior", "I Pwnd U", and such. What about you guys?

No, a name is a name. I know a lot of good players with goofy names. Personally, I think its the opposite, especially in tombs. I figure most people with goofy names are well established players who have completed the pve part of the game and are just having fun in PVP now.

Well, in a game like this where it's more than possible to get through a number of characters, then adding a little humour to the mix doesn't hurt. It is preferable if people are a little subtle and creative about it. For example, my monk Syes Mattus, who has his body scale slider at max. Of course, then you're left wondering whether anyone gets it.....

Usually I go for rp names though, and I definitely do judge other people based on their choice of name.

Well, me, I want to have a name that fits character - i get irritated if I don't But in others... well I've been doing PUGs for a week (been playing for a week, need to know people) and I tell you - most people I've played with are less smart than henchmen. I recently played an Adventure with 4 henchmen, and then did it again for the secondary objective with 5 humans - well, didn't do the secondary either time but it had been easier with the henchies.
And I must say, much to my regret, that the worst players had the best names. The one good player I found (we've done a couple missions since then) has a name that would be translated in (no offense meant... from me at least) Sister **** Mary.
Sounds even worse in Italian, believe me.

I tend not to judge by the name.. and I tend not to forget one either!

Steve McQueen is going to be deleted at some point. Not saying I agree with the policy, but it's going to happen. Don't get too attached to the guy. Das Butt is pretty much a gonner too. Dr No is borderline, but you really do have to read the terms you agreed to.

I'd guess choosing pug teammates with the same kind of name as you, will increase the chance of them having the same playing style as you.

It is not really "good" or "bad", just "compatible".

I use names that are spelled backwards example = ronald > dlanor or from fantasy books like Thomas Covennant, Dragon Riders of Pern, Sword of Shanara (Terry Brookes) etc. Names my not mean much to some players but, to me it makes me feel more like the character I am (Earth Blood). May each and everyone play and live well.

PS I am almost 59 (anyone remember original Zork & Userbius for DOS)

I usually include the word Dragon for male characters and Angel for female characters. eg.: Dragon Furor, my main character; or Dominatrix Angel, my first PvP Domination Magic Mesmer. But nowdays I only create character with the word Dragon, for easier identification by guild members. My PvP char is always called Dragon Judgement.

just because my name is "i am the best warrior monk in the world and better than you you cannot even match me in anyway i rule"......... jkn

my names all start with.
shridia, then something to do with my char, eg, my mo/n started a monk, and became a necro, so "perfidious" which means "fallen" or "disgraced" so she was a monk that fell and became an evil perosn, another is shridia swordsong, she is a warrior who i made to use swords...... my ranger, shridia wolv originially had a wolf, but i dropped it for a lizard, now i dont use it, still sounds cool

i avoid people with names like "eat my anus newbie", "u sux", "i own you" and anything else similar.

i don`t care if there`s a chance that they are good players. just the fact of trying to be cool, leet or offensive annoys me enough to not want to play with these people.

oh, and i crossed the way of a guy named "i hate koreans" some days ago. and after i told him what i think about his name he said that i just would be jealous that i didn`t came up with such a cool name ....

btw i named first my pvp mage Angel Doom (beautyful and deadly like an angel of doom ) and my healer Angel Doomed (because as a healer you end up being some kind of punchingball and target of any aggressive action ...your fate being very clear, you`re doomed )

but now that i`ve only 1 slot left all my pvp chars are called Angel Doom :/
