Hi guys,
I just bought the game yesterday along with two of my friends. We planned to play the whole role-playing mode together but it seems like we are able to take our own individual quests while we are teamed. I thought GW would let us take quests together as a team and play through the role-playing mode as team and not just stick together while one player takes a quest and the others follow?
Am I too early to assume that the "coop" mode is this vague? Because its not very fun if I take all the quests while my friends are just following me and have absolute no clue to the story of the game.
Thanks guys!

there are three types of "quests".
There are Class/subclass Specific Quests
There are General Quests
and There are Storyline Missions.
You can pair up with your friends to do the General Quests and the Storyline Missions but the Class/Subclass quests are specific to your characters development.

Welcome to GW
The best way to play in team is to take the same quests and do them together. If you both have the same quest in your log, they will be completed at the same time. Otherwise, if only one person has the quest, your friends won't see the direction arrow etc.
It works differently with the co op missions. Once you get past the Searing (out of tutorial mode), there are a number of primary missions that you must complete. With these, you jsut go to the mission outpost, assemble your party and press Enter Missions. The log will then show in everyone's quest log while you are in that mission.
Hope that makes sense.

Do you suggest we finish Searing by ourselves first? Then start the primary missions together?

You can do most of pre-searing together as well, but yeah, coop play is much more prevalent in post-searing, especially since the max team size increases.

you could do the "general" quests together in pre-searing. but if you have more than 2 friends, that's a bit hard considering the party size is only 2.
in post-searing you can also do the "missions" (more involved quests, and offer cut-scenes to advance the storyline)

When will I know I'm finished searing? I'm at the point where I need to choose my secondary profession.

You can finish Pre-Searing whenever you want. Basically one of the NPCs you talk to will ask you if you want to leave and there'll be a warning saying you can't come back ever again once you do. Accepting to leave is how you leave Pre-Searing.
Best time to do it is up to you, but you should definitely leave once all quests are finished or you're getting no XP from monsters due to your level .

he will say something like "you won't be back for a while" this is in red text. That is the point that you leave the presearing world behind. But I won't tell you what happens next
