My friend wants me to join him in the arena but I am a level 12 elementalist/ranger with most points into fire, energy storage and wilderness survival. What can I change?

Put Wilderness Survival points into beast mastery and take your pet along, I would say. You'll certainly have only 4 slots for spells if you take charm animal, comfort animal, a pet skill and rez signet. If you take your beast mastery to about 6 your pet should help for the dps.
