i'd rather have the 500-1000+ gold, than a pretty color on my guy...why do so many people care so much about what their person looks like? i just read a thread on possible updates such as being able to buy new clothes, hairstyles, etc....if you want something like that, get The Sims....does anyone else find dyes and stuff like that a waste of money?

Dying anything but your final suit of armour is a waste...but, hey, everyone likes looking good

I think its a good idea. It's a Role Playing Game afterall. I like my character to look a little different from the masses. Besides which, its little features like that that help enhance the gaming experience for people like my wife.

And there are those who like to look like Neo in The Matrix, all in Black. Before long there will be sun glasses too.

It is fun to do though.

Yea, it's all about the look. People like to customize their characters. That's pretty much all there is to it. The way things are now, it's kind of lame that everybody looks the same. For some ppl it's a big deal, not so much for others. My wife ended up going back to WoW simply because she liked playing Barbie with her Night Elf Druid. lol

my deal with dyes is that if people are gonna waste 75k for 15k armor with the same stats as my 1.5 k armor i dont mind buying 5 purple and 5 silver to make my armor look a lil different.

I don't care what the fuss is about, but I do care that it's a great way to make money . Find a few black and silver dyes dangling mysteriously off monsters who look far too angry to enjoy dying things (killing things, maybe...), and you've got a tidy stack of gold in your pocket. Keep the dye demand high people! It's good for the (Matt) economy!

I guess you didn't adjust the starting looks of your character then?

spent maybe 5 seconds on it, just to put something...some people here would be better off playing The Sims considering how much they care about the aesthetics of their character

Firstly; It's something to spend gold on. People without things to spend gold on get very bored and gold becomes worthless.

Secondly; Not everybody likes their characters to look the same. Think before you speak.

For some people, especially the ones who role play, or perhaps those who focus on PvE play, dyeing clothes can become a way of role playing and thus identifying with their characters more.

This may seem like a sideline, but I act on stage, and if I can't identify with the character I'm trying to portray, I both enjoy it less and am a far worse actor.

It won't be the same for everyone, of course - for some their characters are more a set of stats and mechanics, and the PvP approach would tend to encourage this IMO as one would be constantly changing and/or deleting one's characters for competitive play, breaking the sense of a continuous identity for the character.

As for the cost, it depends which colours one picks - if you want to be wearing black, yeh, that's too much for me at the moment, but I had no probs outfitting my mes in purple....just wasn't that pricey.

Wandering my own road.

There was a person of similar opinion about the 15k armor in Marhan's Grotto 2 days ago.
They stayed in the Grotto for a while ranting about how it was pointless, that anyone who bought it was an idiot, and argued with people who said basically the same thing: The reason you buy it is to look different.

Dunno if he was just trolling pointlessly, or it was total shock factor about the price of the armor and finding out the stats were identicle to the equipment in Droknar's.

We've all got vanity. Even if you choose to be a non-conformist in appearance, you've made a conscious choice to change your appearance based on the appearance of others. That's vanity.

Accept it or don't, but you know the adage about throwing rocks from within glass houses, being without sin before casting stones, and so on and so forth.

Yeah, those who are with sin should not live in glass houses, I think...

I guess the thing about dye is it really is one of the very few ways one can differentiate themselves from each other, however slight it may be. I don't do it, but then again, I chose Necro for the looks alone, and then for the cool factor. I wouldn't dye my armor because frankly, I don't see the role-play in this game at all, and don't want to dump gold into my looks. But you can't fault someone who does!

"People who live in glass houses should buy a shower curtain"

There's a universal truth anyone can agree on

But, back on topic, dying isn't "stupid" by any stretch of the imagination. If you think dying is a waste of money, don't do it.

Also, the point of dye is to waste money...kind of like Ale

I'm in complete agreement with Manadar here. The point of dye, as with many things of the game, is to waste money. Any of you who find that pointless, go ahead and don't spend it. Money is worthless until it's spent.

It's the same thing as buying designer clothes in real life-People pay to look different. Sure, a $5 solid color t shirt will keep you clothed, but everyone likes to be different.

I've dyed my droknar's armor silver-blue,it looks good with my cape. It only cost me about 3.5k total, and was worth it.

Some people would like to have thier Guilds have a uniform look. Kind of like having an army.
