name banning question

I have a lvl 8 necro call "Wrath of Grenth" and i am not really sure if that violate the anything. I heard lots of people got their char banned because of using name from the game. you guys think I should just restart?

i have a char named xunlai agent i havent had a problem and ive seen people named Archer Henchmen

I know that there's a section about names in the ToS, but it's plain stupid. Unless the name is clearly discirminating or provocative, I don't think we should be banned for using a celebrity name or a trademark. According to the ToS, I could get banned for using names such as "Tech Support", "Jacky Chan", "Reign of Chaos", "The Sims"?? Another thing, I don't know is whether or not ANet polices all language. So you can be banned an offensive English term, but what about Spanish, French, German, Latin ?? etc.... It would sort of be unfair to English players in that case.

cuz awhile ago, some guy's char name G U I L D W A R S was banned. now i am just worry anet is over doing this name banning thing.

It sounds like a pretty good name to me and I personally doubt that it would be banned.

If it really worries you, however, why not contact Anet support, as their name banning policy is a closely-guarded secret (well, not really, but none of us know *exactly* what qualifies and what doesn't).

On the other hand, it may not be worth it, as I suspect that some of the drive towards name bannings has to come from other players, with other players often being the ones to report names that, for example, have overt Nazi connotations.....and I doubt that other players will report your name as offensive, especially when the names that people find most offensive usually connect with sex, real-world religion and real-world politics.

But your character's name seems to fit entirely within the game world, so I can't imagine it causing anyone any undue distress.

if you are not sure if it violates policy contacting them now (after putting all your goodies on another character or storage) and asking if it is ok for a name or might be banned when they get to it is a very good idea.

that way you lose no items if they say no and it shows good faith on your part

if they say ok keep the return email in case they change their minds later

it will be better to lose a low level character with no items now than a high level character with 15k items later

I don't think there's a law prohibiting the use of celebrity names. I mean, what if i'm unfortunate enough to be name Bruce Lee. No one is going to sue my parents for naming be Bruce. Another point is, what's condisered a celebrity?? i understand trademarks, by celebrities don't have a sign atttach to them.
