1vs1 pvp, i think its a good idea

Hi

Last few days i start to lose interest in the game. I have got 4 lv 20 characters, all ascended and stuff, enough cash and a nice kit.

Ive a nice guild where we do a gvg every once in a while. Thats fun, but u have to rely on others. When u want a gvg there must be 8 ppl with the right builds etc. I start to lose interest in gvg too because u cant just go a gvg whenever I want.

I think people have mentioned this before but Ill just mention this again. I think a 1vs1 would be really nice. You can start whenever you want and have much more fun when u want to play and not think of strategies and stuff with guildmembers before u enter a battle.

The game is called Guildwars, but i think a 1vs1 option will make the game more fun for everyone. Sometimes i have 20 minutes to play and just cant organise a group and then still do a gvg or something. A `1vs1 in the other hand wouldnt take much time.

I just cant do much more than pvp, all my characters is max level, ive all items i need to have ( fissure armour isnt something i must have, i dont care about looks). This game is the end for me, but pvp is the only thing left. So i really do hope something is gonna change and players will be able to play 1vs1.

I really hope the developers read this and think about this. Thanks.

1v1 is good, but I'd prefer it only be something in the guild hall or something on request. Guild war's was meant for teamwork and a simple 1v1 option wouldn't kill it off, but an arena might be going to far. Simply testing builds/clean fun is all I look forward too if they add it, although I KNOW people are going to get all ****y and go "haha noob you 1v1 me i 0wnzr0rz u haha!!1!1!!ooonnee!11!!two22@!"

here and here and here

Just to name a few.... No reason for a 1v1 arena, unless it was attatched to a "practice arena" at a guild hall.

It would be real nice to be able to back up all that smack talk I've been slinging around on my GW account, but they would have to make it pre-arranged (not random), with no reward for the winner. It's simply too random to be reward-based. You could be the best damned ele in the world and get your ass handed to you by a mesmer who got randomly matched up with you.

a 1v1 would really be about who does the most damage. There wouldn't really be any strategy involved. I'd say there would be a super build that does the most damage and that'd pretty much own the arena, such as a mesmer or something.

not to mention that most 1v1 will end in stalemate....

So pessimistic tonight aren't we?

If i was to be told by Joe Bloggs the big macho warrior (or other class)
that "Rangers suck" or whatever else they usually say, i would love to be able to say "OK, i challenge you to a duel" rather than ignore them.

Stalemate, maybe sometimes it would, but you could always have a time limit although i wouldn't want it personally. Skill and strategy would eventually prevail, perhaps seizing victory through a momentary lapse of concentration.

Obviously there wouldn't be rewards for such events because they could easily be cheated by one person losing deliberately.

I think any person should be able to go up to another of ANY LEVEL and challenge them. If i wanted to test my level 8 warriors ability against another person of a higher level, i think it should be allowed. It is after all a game which is meant to be fun.

How would such a match be implemented apart from clicking and inviting to a duel...perhaps clicking a button would list you in a duel register and anyone can select your name/class/level for a duel. You would receive a pop-uip asking if you wish to fight this person. Don't know...let the clever deities at ANet decide if so be the case.

1V1 would certainly work and be welcome by quite a large audience but only if the matches aren't randomized IMO.

Obviously from the number of topics relating to 1V1, ArenaNet have certainly made a note of it at the very least. I just hope when the problems are sorted, the patches are implemented and the expansion is on schedule that some time can be allocated for the fun extras that people wish for in this great game.

My idea was here...

Hopefully they give us a practice arena to test our builds and unofficially give us 1v1.

Yeah, go for it. I know my monk would never ever ever ever ever step a foot inside of it though, and would never help me in my builds. But you guys have fun.

In my head

There's no reason for there to be a 1v1? This is a team based game so there shouldnt be 1v1 arenas? Oh come on. Why can't the reason for the arena simply just be for fun? Why do you think dye is in the game? It's not really any help for PVE or PVP at all yet it's in the game, so any arguments about "no reason" doesnt apply.

As for team based only, how does that exclude anything else? Why pigeonhole this game strictly to team based PVP only? And Guild Wars doesn't exactly have a "Guild Wars" feel to it since 8v8 is hardly a war or much of a guild.

Simply because you have no interest in something doesnt mean that it won't succeed within the game or "have no reason" to have it. Sheesh.

Meh. Would be nice for those people that want to "throw down the gauntlet", but I'm not sure if I'd like the consequences. The last thing I'd want to see is "omg my w/mo lost a duel to a ragner nerf" or similarly minded people on the forums that would expect to have the game balanced around their duels.

Then again, these people don't affect me in-game, so it doesn't affect me at all.

It would only be good for a handful of builds.

What would a healing or protection monk do?

What would a summoning necro do?

What would any support character do?

It would be hated as much as it would be loved, so I hope it is close to the end of the to-do list.

Guild Wars is a team orientated game, you each bring qualities to complete the group, not only would 1v1 be often incredibly boring it would be just weak. Some classes would just clean other classes out with certain spells. The game is not balanced for 1v1 action.

This has also been mentioned before, but as a reply to the OP...

How about a 32 player open deathmatch? With random fields with widely varying conditions (think the dragons cave - slow, health degen, strange terrain, large flat areas, narrow corridor mazes, a vault with many pillars, a swamp, lava fields, etc.).

In team vs. team battles, the landscape has to be fairly boring to be fair, but in a mass deathmatch just for fun, you can really be creative.

Take HP degen level or a lava level. Monks might have the advantage simply by healing themselves and letting the landscape take care of the enemies. A level with random earthquakes tends to screw casters. A swamp/slow level favours ranged fighters. A maze of winding corridors favours melee and close ranged.

As for "victory conditions" we could vary those as well. Capture and hold an item till time runs out, last man standing, most kills, etc. With all these combinations of terrain and goal, your chances of victory are pretty random.

But it'll provide an interesting and fun way to just jump in and kill stuff.

Why not? I would send my monk in all day! Smite up and protection. I know you didn't beat your Monk Mirror by healing him to death?

I'd be on a mission to prove that monks can fight too. Who knows, I may even win a few

They same thing they did to beat their 1v1 Mirror Quest!!!! Monks have smite. Every character is flexible. Just rearrange the attributes and change the spells around. Never lock yoursefl into one mode of play.

By the way, your Mirror Self is twice as strong as you are and causes 2x as much damage. I beat him in 35 seconds flat without using my secondary!

I farm and solo with my monk do you think I sit back and heal all day? NO, I SMITE!
