Hoarding gold is getting harder and that's a good thing. I doubt you will ever legitimately have to have much more then 80k for stuff you want in game... If you buy from fair and honest people, or NPCs only (highly recommend this). Now that some gold sinks are being introduced and used gold value is starting to recover. I always use the Yen vs US Dollar analogy... Currently Our game gold is comparable to yen. too much of it in the system so takes lots to buy stuff. But this is slowly correcting itself as gold is being pulled from the game... (destroyed) and attaining more gold is getting harder. as time goes by you will see traders prices drop. heck they have drastically in the last few days in fact... and more traders and crafters are expected... I normally keep about 10 to 20k available for myself, and give the rest to guild mates for their needs... But I average around 2 or 3k a day when I play(normally around an hour or two), just going through missions and exploring areas... I'm currently in the southern shiverpeeks and Crystal desert areas... Both are quite fun to explore, and have nice things to pick up, and plenty of gold. once you ascend, you will find it easier to do these with minimal help. I go solo quite often with my ranger and my pet... Normally I avoid town points till its ABSOLUTLY necessary. Once I get a 10% life bonus, I'm pretty much set to do anything I want... I fight sandworms, or Giants, whatever... I just like to run around and see whats out there to find. several collectors and such around...
Oh another hint... Don't salvage EVERYTHING. some stuff sells well on its own to NPCs without being salvaged some stuff sells for as much as 50 or 75 gold each. get 250 of em, and its quite a sell off.., or is useful for collectors...
Another nice place to go is the Temple of Ages, to the Underworld or Fissure of Woe Bonus Areas. If you can do those and have some gold to spend you often come out with more then your fair share of goodies... But you absolutely have to be a great level 20 character with good skills to survive in there.
