Were you able to connect b4 and now you cannot? Are you having internet connectivity issues with anything else?
I would say check your ports first, then perhaps refresh your modem by unpluging the power for it and waiting 30 sec. then plug it back in. maybe a release/renew of you ip...I am just throwing things out as we dont have much info other than "it wont connect" I still think that since it says "connecting" and never does it is a port issue, your computer is trying to speak with the server but the port is closed and therefore can't talk with the server. To best test this quickly, shut down your firewall and try to connect, if you do, it is a port. Then turn on your firewall and open the correct ones.
Maybe check with you ISP, it could lay with them, ask if anyone else has reported issues with gaming connection.

Hmm.. Cableone? I just got this error a few minutes ago and I am also using Cableone.
If anyone else is having this "Connecting... Err=5", are you also using Cableone as your ISP?
I've disabled my firewall, and tried just about everything I can think of, nothing works. Last night the game played fine, but now I just get "Connecting..." and eventually "Err=5". The thing is, this only happens on this computer. My other PC in the living room, which didn't have GW installed on it previously, works fine now that I just installed it.
I've tried hooking the cable modem straight to this PC, but it doesn't help any. Very strange that it would work last night and today I get this strange error.

Actually from my experience, GW is rather sensitive to connectivity aka network problems. Even if you have a connection with low latency but high packet loss, you may encounter this problem.
Last weekend, I noticed I was experiencing unusually high packet loss and my gameplay was littered with rubber-banding and oftentimes my character was rooted in one spot for a while before I could move again. Also I had to wait a long time sometimes to get into any city with mass numbers of players, like Lions Arch. And sometimes, I had to restart GW to get into the city because it gets stuck at the 100% loading part.
Fortunately, it was still bearable. At least I didn't have to redo any quests/missions because of it.

The only problem is that this is a completely random problem. I bought the game the day it came out in stores and have been playing without a hitch ever since. Like I said, I played fine last night, did a few Fissure runs and then logged off. Got online today and the Err=5 started coming up. No reason whatsoever.
Tried turning off firewall, going from cable modem directly to the PC, etc... Nothing seems to help.
I have another PC in the living room that doesn't seem to have a problem at all connecting to GW, though. The only problem is it's entirely too slow to play on. I really have no idea what's going on.

Ugh, this is pushing me over the edge. I've tried almost every single thing I can think of to connect to guild wars. Nothing works.
I've tried disabling firewalls, running lan cable straight from cable modem, changing cat 5 cables, etc... Nothing, nodda.
Did you ever get yours working, Kaaori?

See if this fixes your problem.

It was something server side with Guild Wars. No telling, support said only a few were affected. We couldn't connect to thelogin server for some reason.
