Bigger spell bar for future chapters

I would really like to see the spell bar increased from 8 to at least 10 or higher in future chapters. I'm pretty sure in future chapters there will be more spells added to the game, so why not add more slots to the spell bar? It's bad enough when you get to level 20 and have almost every spell the two classes have. 8 slots just isnt enough. I know there is the issue with the PvP balance. But, what about PvE? Can't you at least up it in that?

I disagree with having a bigger skilll bar. It has been debated over and over and I just think it's best the way it is now.

I was going to post a long response, but.

Adding even ONE more will dramaticly change the game balance. They're having enough problems balancing it as it is, why would they make it harder for themselves?

The game is going to force you to use only a small selection of your skills with 8 slots (about 5.3%) or 10 slots (about 6.7%) either way, just accept that this is the game and enjoy it. There's enough diversity as it is, you don't need another two slots too add to it.

Ok adding one more would barely effect the balance, let alone dramaticly but adding 5 or more would definitely be dramatic. But, you never know about future chapters, they just might see it my way. If they don't I could always brainwash them.

Well im saying it would help me and alot of other people if we had like 2-5 more skill bars because we need something to revive our animals as rangers, have ranger attacks, and have your secondary Profession attack also!!!

8 slots are easily enough and I never want to see more. The 8 skill limit goes back to when skills were obtained by collecting gems which were then put into rings as trainers. Since a person can only wear 8 rings at time, 8 is the limit. (8 fingers = 8 rings = 8 skills, don't count thumbs)

Having room for only 8 skills forces you to refine the strategy behind your build and adding mroe slots would only take away from the strategy involved in creating a build.

this sounds like the "raise the lvl cap threads"

no the lvlv cap will not bump up, and no more skills slots will be added

this is so that you are forced to think before you go into battle

and for thinking the one more skill wouldnt be unbalance think of the brand new combos that would be avalible................that would all have to be balanced out

This is actually a pretty good example of why we shouldn't change the number of Skills available for use at any one time. The point of the limit is to make it so that you're not able to have all the skills necessary "to revive our animals as rangers, have ranger attacks, and have your secondary Profession attack also." With the limit, you're forced to actually think about what exactly it is that you want to do with your character, and whether or not you want to run a Ranger Pet build with some Pet skills included, or if you want to run just a mix of Ranger attack skills and secondary attack or support skills.

Having only eight skills at a time is perfectly fine with me, and it's keeping the game balanced pretty well at the moment, so lets leave it as is.

The whole point of having a small skill bar is to keep things balanced as well as to keep strategy in the game. Increasing it by as little as 2 spaces could throw the game out of whack balance wise and would ditract from the strategy of the game. Not to mention people with more expansions would have more skill slots which is completely unfair. So, No.

I'm going to have to disagree with the OP as well, pretty much for all the reasons already mentioned. Having to choose a limited amount of skills adds a good element of balance and strategy that I think is essential to this game.

Heartening to see that you all could recognize this for the misguided idea it is.

First, let's say you raise the kill cap. Then, instead of having that 9th skill you'd really like to add, you know what? You'd have that 10th or 11th or 12th or whatever skill you'd really like to fit into your bar. You're not eliminating the "problem" just shifting it.

Second, it's not a problem in the first place. Yeah, it'd be nice if you could use every skill you knew whenver you wanted. But, it'd be nice to have 200 armor and a 50~50 damage sword with double criticals, too. Doesn't make for good game design, though. GW is abot making choices, about having options. You *have* to pick those eight skills out of however many. So, by design, you have to make some tough choices. That's the way things work. You're limited and capped in whatever it is you want to do. Could be six skills could be ten, whatever. But it's eight. And eight it's going to say unless they drastically alter the entire game.

Let's say we raise the number of skill slots availible, and you can use any spell that you have on you. (Yes, we are playing D2 now ).

Alright, now I'm going to battle you. I can type faster than you, and I predefined all of my keys for easy access. I have 20 skills availible, and I can reach all of them in milliseconds.

(So theoretical, I suck at D2 because of this.)

You are a new player, and you want to try out the Arena for the first time. You go in there with as many skills as you can hold, and you might not be entirely sure of what keys mean what yet.

Reasonably, you are brutally maimed.

Let's change the situation a bit. I have one of those gaming-glove things, and I have all 20 skills within milliseconds. You have a normal keyboard, and you'd laid out your skills reasonably well, but this one skill is a bit of a reach, and you aren't sure if T means "Lightning Orb" or "Orison of Healing".

Again, I gain the advantage. In the first case, I gain an unfair advantage because I have been playing for longer than you (against a basic tenet of Guild Wars). In the second case, I gain an unfair advantage because I'm invested more money into the game than you (I think this kinda goes along with "no unfair advantage for doing this over that" but it's more vague in this case). Keeping the skill level bar capped at 8 balances the game in both the strategy manner (as documented above) but also in the "no unfair advantage" way.
