Very strong suggestion.

Well this definately takes the prize for the oldest thread I personally have ever seen resurected on any forum...
It is interesting to see the shifting ideals between now and three years ago. There were actually some people arguing that it wasn't anyone's business if others were using bots. Now it's kind of the one issue that everyone agrees on (as being bad).
Ever heard of /report?

A step Anet should take is get rid of the 'tab' trough items on the ground(not acctually with tab, done with [ and ] or something) and use those to tab through minions and spirits instead.
It would take the bot builders at least a month to regain full efficiency in detecting the location of drops by searching for the drop's letters on the screen.
Or a little less time if they'll be modifying the WoW bot dropfinding method, to be used in the GW bots.
The /report function is a start, but a counter to bots that doesn't mess up the game for the users will require some greater ingenuity and creativity(thinking outside the box), than I have and a lot more than this thread has demonstrated thus far.

[EDIT]
OMG rezzed from so old.
Well I guess it is a semi good thing right? At least it shows Timotheus Amadeus is willing and able use the search function, which is always better than the 1 out of 3 that seem to be unable to do so.
And on it:

The only thing a mmorp server computes are numbers. Let's say there's a hex code for a combination of a player with this armor, that weapon, that dye applied to the armor, etc. etc. It forms a large number. Your computer calculates this number into a visual player. The only thing the mmorp servers do is combining this number with a two number location on the map. Vertical and horizontal number and the current action it's doing, using this spell (a number) etc. etc. It sends these numbers to your pc and your pc calculates it to a visual image. |
Swords axes and wands all have pretty much the same model, just different transparent parts in the texture, would be my guess, though the nightfall wand models are a lot less similar to sword and axe sizes than the proph ones are.
And also you need 'time into the animation', to make sure it displays correctly.
(why use a hexcode specifically, thats kinda old fashioned/unoptimized, ain't it?)
Though if found through the search function, I'd not directly say that comment would be the way offer support to the OP.

And mister VRod is completly right on pretty much everything he said about GW.
The GW2 open world thing would reduce the impact of bots on the serverload, but would put them on our screen killing the mobs we needed a collector drop from.
Then again, the open world replie the devs gave on that intervieuw that was posted on the forums here somewhere was related to some kind of PvP experience not for PVE; in which <enter GW2 kurzics here> would run into <enter GW2 luxers here> and steamroll them, I doubt bots would be participating in that, they'd still use their own instances if the rest of GW2 stays as is.
Offtopic:
About Bush, people that support him are not definitely racist or homophobic, but they are definitely as unfit to rule a nation as he is, as they are either stupid enough to not notice how much inconsiderate and self contradicting crap he spews, or they are willing to sacrifice the future for their personal gain.
I mean instead of promising he would get the troops home, or that he would solve the problems with the dropping dollar value, before his term ends.
Bush promised he would end the problems in Jerusalem before his term ends. Leaving the 'real' problems to the next president.
On that subject, what do you prefer, a Brother or a Mother?

Arenanet has many educated programmers/anaylists on their side. If there were a more effective way to deal with bots that didn't effect the community it a negative way then I'm sure they would implement it. |
Botting in GW is one thing, botting in a persistent zone can have a much more negative affect for the average player. It's about more than the economy and lag when there's bots grabbing all the mobs you're after in a persistent zone.

Isn't there a code that if an area is over farmed, such as the UW is currently, it decrease the quality of drops? If the code is still in place wouldn't bots cause over farming?
I have found that farming where they are the fewest people seems to improve drop quality.

Bah. The only way to remove bots it's to make farming more effective for players than for bots.
Like decreasing the price of unidentified items to laughable amounts:
- Common (white): 1 gold
- Common (blue): 2 gold
- Uncommon (purple): 5 gold.
- Rare (gold): 10 gold.
Then increase a bit the identified ones... not much...
And then, the big deal, add upgrade traders for weapons and offhands too, and increase the minimum 'sell' price of upgrades.
Bot's don't salvage.

Albeit, it would make farmers much less effective, by like, 20x, it could turn into an annoying hassle for legit players.

Given enough time you can also work out a selection base on which a bot can distinct which items are worth salvaging for materials, perhaps salvaging only white weapons with a requirement of 8 or higher, they can already tell golds apart from other items and I think REQ: 7 max weapons are checked for as well(though I never looked at a GW bot, but I know they keep golds separate to sell to wisdom farmers in LA).
Teaching them to only salvage maxed mods might be harder, though looking for the words "30 Health" on hale items and 15% on weapon items would be a logical fist step.
Though I'm referring this the people that can actually build/modify their own bots, people that just download one set and run it, are on the same side of the problem as the people buying the gold.
But their accounts will end up on the other side, as it's more beneficial to place a keylogger in the bots, just in case someone doesn't check the bot he downloaded.

In the interview the devs reveled something about a persistent world system, but it was for PvP where you could fight persistent battles in a huge area with people joining and leaving whenever they liked.
You'd go to your guild hall, get some guildies together walk out the guildhall gate and look for the nearest enemy guildhall to raid.
But that interview never said anything about persistence in PvE, I'm probably behind on my info, so if you have more resent info in which the they talk about persistent PvE in GW2 plz gimme a link.

Just ban bots and watch NCSoft get the cash!

Using search FTW or or having a thread corpse nerf FTW?(pet corpse nerf, get it... any1... oh, never mind)
I vote for using search, it makes for less clutter and info piles up, making for a more complete picture than lots of short lifespan threads only covering the basics of the topic.

In Guild Wars 2, we want to retain our ability to do that, but rather than telling one big monolithic story our goal is to pursue story arcs and story bubbles - that players can choose to take their characters into a story arc and maybe there a several missions and persistent areas that'll tie that together. And there's going to be numerous of these story arcs throughout the world. What we want to do is adopt more of a sandbox mentality, that players can direct their own play and pace to a much greater degree than they could in Guild Wars 1. |

You can't have both, you have to pick one.

However, this is a very old complaint about bots, we're all painfully familiar with this problem so I'll close this time.
