Here a brief explanation of a build for 2 monks that I found very effective for PvE.

---------------------------------------

Monk #1: Mo/N
Expert (at least 12 points) in Protection Prayers and Blood Magic

Monk #2: Mo/*other class*
Expert (at least 12 points) in Protection Prayers
Novice (at least 7 points) Healing Prayers
Novice (at least 7 points) Divine Favor

---------------------------------------

Monk #1 skills: Aegis, Blood Ritual, Offering of Blood, Shielding Hands and any other protection or ressurection spells.

Monk #2 skills: Life Bond, Blessed Signet (the one that gives you energy for enchantments you are maintaining), and other healing spells and ressurection spells.

---------------------------------------

How to use:
- Monk #2 cast life bond on all the tankers (such as warriors). While monk #2 casts life bond on allies, Monk #1 casts Blood Ritual to help with Energy.

-At the start of battle Monk #1 casts Aegis. Immediately cast Offering of Blood to replentish your own Energy. Then cast Blood Ritual on monk #2 to help his Energy.

-Once Aegis expires, Monk #1 immediately cast Shielding Hands on Monk #2.

-Monk #2 heals as necessary, and Monk #1 casts Blood Ritual on Monk #2 as necessary. Monk #2 can help his own Energy by using Blessed Signet.

-All casters (elementalists and mesmers) stay in the back row and cast their spells while the tankers take all the damage in the front lines.

-Secondary monks should bring a remove hex and use it if necessary.

-Monk #1 main job is to give Monk #2 Energy so monk #2 can heal.

-------------------------------------

I found this build especially useful in Fissure of Woe and Underworld. Please feel free to comment on this.

The reason I've written this up is because you dont really need 3 monks on a party to keep the team alive. With this build for the 2 monks, your team is pretty powerful and can take on a large group of foes, so long as casters stay in the back row and warriors in the front.

Played fissure yesterday with 7 players and 1 monk and many monk secondaries and we kicked ass. I am N/Mo and my tactic was to use bone fiends with verata as fodder. And all secondary monks were buffing and healing warriors. With main monk healing the most afflicted. Rangers were luring and eles doing splash damage. You dont need loads of monk primaries. Just need a co-ordianted team. However that said many monks is never a bad thing, just not entirely necessary. Interesting idea though.

If you are going to get two monks working together, don't forget the one monk life bonding everyone (and using blessed signet to keep their energy up) and the other using healing seed on that monk. If everyone stays near the monk with healing seed, its easy to roll through mobs in the underworld.
