I believe if you get a warrior (or several) to help you by repeatedly knocking the bear down, then you capture it.

That charm breaker is really quick, its almost impossible to knock it down when its using it.

That was how it was done prior to the latest patch. I was under the impression that they now have made it so that you can not tame a pre-searing black bear any more. Has anyone done this since the patch a couple of weeks ago?

I tried like Hades last night. Got some nice scratch marks for my troubles, wound up with a giant chicken.

Why is the bear not charmable in the first place? I like the idea of making it hard to charm the bear, but impossible? I think it'd be easy enough to find out how to do it. Here's the wiki's info:

Taming a Black Bear in Pre-Searing is very difficult but not impossible. It takes two people working together to do this. Have the bear engage the other player, and have the one trying to charm the bear, stand so that the bear will be on the edge of his aggro bubble. Both players should wait until the bear uses its Brutal Mauling skill. You can figure out when by counting the bear's attacks - it will use it every fourth attack. As soon as it does, the charmer must use Charm Animal, and the other player must run in the other direction. The bear must be made to chase the retreating player to get it far from the one using the skill. If done correctly, the bear will have moved too far away for it to use Breaking Charm in time. It will definitely require several tries to get it right.
Another also rather difficult way of taming the bear is to be either a Ranger/Necromancer or a Necromancer/Ranger with Faintheartedness and teamed up with a Warrior/Monk or a Monk/Warrior and have them use a hammer. Start off with Faintheartedness to slow the attack speed of Brutal Mauling. Just before the bear finishes, have your teammate use Hammer Bash to knock the bear down, followed immediately by Bane Signet to knock the bear down again. Before the bear gets up, you will have reached the 10 seconds needed for the charm to work, and the bear is yours. This has been fixed in a recent patch.

It says the Faintheartedness version was fixed in a recent patch, but I think it'd be possible to tame it using a N/W with faintheartedness and a hammer and a ranger. Do the first technique of getting it on your aggro bubble and pulling, then once it's pulled use a hammer to knock it down.

Of course the only way to know would be to try it. And I'm hardset to find anyone in presear competent enough to understand it, let alone carry out this task. If anyone here would like to test it out with me I would be much obliged.

People were still going after bear in pre-sear as of 2 weeks ago. It's just a matter of getting someone to help you from what I have seen.

Moses, that's the best thread necromancy I've ever seen. I think one year and eight months deserves a honorable mention.
