I am a ranger/monk. I am using a Smiting staff which does light damage when attacking smites. Sometimes, I'll drop a Nature's and use my bow. Which type of weapon will work on smites the best?

I guess I am asking if light damage is good or bad against smites in the underworld.

Ive only done smite runs a few times with trapper group as a ranger and last nite someone in our party was basically screaming at us not to use our bows againest them. What does using a bow do wrong?

I made that mistake the first time too. The smites have an enchantment, shield of judgment, which will inflict damage and knock you down if you attack them with weapons. Nature's renewal will strip that enchantment.

I have been told that there is no armor defense against light damage, such as fire creatures taking less damage from fire attacks, ect. But smites seem to be monk-like creatures (have monk abilities) so I was wondering if they have an armor defense against light damage?

Also, they have an enchantment that allows them to regain X amount of health if you shoot them (any physical damage I am thinking).

I think that any non-physical damage works well against them, but that is purely from what I have noted, and may be just my imagination at work. By non physical, I mean basically anything other than melee or arrows.

I have a question related to this. Does Shield of Judgement only apply to physical damage? If I used greater conflagation or ignite arrows, does it still knock me down?

Here's the description- Shield of Judgement {Elite} - Enchantment Spell
For 8-18 seconds, anyone striking target ally is knocked down, and suffers 5-41 damage.

I really don't know; I'll ask my pick up group.

I've seen teammates use area attack spells (meteor shower) on the smites; my guess is that area attack spells are not deflect by the shield of judgment.

Shield of Judgement only knocks down physical attackers, not spells.

SoJ knocks down a physical attack, sword, bow, wand, etc. Use only spells and no hexes since they also use smite hex.

Counter Smiting works against smites.. because it isn't an element. "Light damage" is different from "holy damage".
