Anets policy of sympton curing kills the game!
Pandora's box
Today Anet did an extra update 'to correct a map location that has been heavily exploited by those using bots.'. Rather than taking meassures to remove all those bots the game is getting harder and harder for regular players because hordes of monsters should prevent getting bots to their farming location. Instead of curing the sickness its only a battle against symptons
The bad thing about this policy is that regular players are getting more and more frustrated because they have to repeat their pulling tricks more and more just te get a little bit further on the map (Not repetative ehh???). If the only thing Anet can do against bots is to nerf the game but let bots unbanned than they are no better in preventing exploits than Blizzard in D2. And wasn't that one of the BIG promisses? A game without bots?

It's spelled "symptom".
Otherwise, I agree. Good thing I'm pretty much done with the desert, lord only knows it was annoying enough before.

OMFG There are now creatures GUARDING the treasure! The game has just gotten way too hard now...
P.S. Did you miss the already existing thread on this, or wasn't the title sufficiently provacative for trolling in?

I can't believe they think treasure should be guarded. What kind of person would dream up the idea that treasure is valuable and should be protected and earned. I demand that I get my valuable items easily and freely. Damn Anet for ruining such a thing.

why do people complain when games get difficult???? this game is FAR too easy...I welcome the idea of making it a bit harder.
toastgodsupreme
Edit: I do find it annoying that they're taking more efforts to change the maps than ban the bots.

I agree ... this game is made to easy but its only the opening chapter. Think about it. If it were made hard ... all the straight pvp players that need to get to droknars would complain even more. I encourage a more challenging pve area ... in the future chapters. More challenge and more liberty (towns you can go town but dont even need, like ice tooth cave ... more open map not follow the yellow brick road to ascention dorthy ... )

Anyone who says adding a few monsters around some wreckage "kills the game" is clearly without anything of merit to say on the subject. Even if they had a point to begin with, when your opponent in a debate starts resorting to utterly ridiculous exaggeration, you've already won. At that point they're making themselves look silly, you hardly even have to argue with them...

Its amazing how people read through collored spectacles and just repeat what they always say over and over again, day in day out
I dont know anything about chests. What I'm saying is that Anet does not help anyone by nerfing the game. They should take away the cause: the bots!
And for the nerfing: Those items have no value. Maybe in gold, but whats the use of having tons of gold? The only thing you can do with it is to buy dandy stuff to look better.

I love how everyone says "take away the bots"...how would you propose they do this?

i have to agree gold is well ... gold ... it will come and go forever. nerfing is more of a practical joke i think anet uses to sting people who mess with their game (just kidding anet, we all hale to gw )
*ducks outta way of nerf bat*
as for bots ... well really not too much we can do I believe. Currrently it is still somewhat balanced imo, I still make gold, still get treasure, you can avoid many of the added pests, and I dont even farm anymore, just cap elites.
I know this will seem dim, but I haven't even really noticed to much of a change in the game. Maybe at Mineral Springs area, but thats about it. The desert seemed fairly normal to me and I'm on my 4th character throiugh there.

No one is getting banned, especially not so you can take misplaced satisfaction from it. Sorry.

Agreed with toast's post. Both parts of it.

as for taking out the bots, it's not an easy job. they can ban the accounts, but they can't write something just to remove them, because bots appear to be real characters in game, as far as i know.

They will never be able to get rid of bot programs.
The reason for this is all you have to have a program that simulate key press or mouse movements that windows see as normal input.
Since GW is designed to run minimized, window mode, or full screen it's very easy for 3rd party programs to work on guild wars.
Removing run minimized, windows mode will not work either, FFXI (Pc Version) was designed this way and there are programs out there that allow / trick it to run in a window mode.
They only way to deal with bots is to find a way to id bots in game based on cretiera or somehow effect what there botting after, in this case those treasure chests. If you have an overly aggressive bot detection you get false positives, if too lax, you will miss them.
This case was so blatant to the point it was causing sever lag in that zone from what I was seeing (video and reading) and I will bet they took down the accounts using the bots before adding the monsters for future banning.
They will not be able to stop bots 100% because botting evolves in complexity. There goal will be level design and in game detection.
I have no objection about monster guarding treasure box's, just make it worth it going through all those monsters besides the xp. The sheer amount of changes in this game in this little time shows how devoted they are to this game and I have not doubt something is in the works.

The only thing you need to do to ban bots is to add a picture of a random number before changing a map and ask to enter that number to continue. Its really very easy to ban bots this way...

ya..assuming that the people writing the bots know as little about computers as you do this would work.

People can write bots that will read and punch in the random numbers. It's been done before, not with Guild Wars or course, but plenty of other programs.
Besides, let's put it this way:
Option 1: Tick everyone off (people who don't cheat) by making them do some stupid code just to go somewhere.
Option 2: Add enemies next to boxes.
Wow, I wonder which one is the better one...

Blahofstars
Or they could just eliminate treasure boxes all together. That way, not only will there be NO MORE BOTS farming them, but no one will be complaining about the mobs guarding the treasure as there is no more treasure.
Dusk_
Yes indeed, why don't we eliminate Guild Wars altogether so people can't complain about it anymore?
Granamyr
It'd be one thing if ANet implemented all these hindrances and was actually making a dent in the bot population but they're obviously not because we keep seeing these "fixes". The drop rates were nerfed, the drop rates were brought to zero, every group over 3 mobs now has a disenchanter, now they're adding more of these annoyances.
How much of this crap do we have to endure to attempt to solve the bot problem -- an issue that most of the community doesn't even know/care about in the first place? ANet would do well to prioritize which issues they tackle based on fansite feedback because I guarantee bot disruption is not topping the list! Furthermore, they're doing a lousy job at it.

Here's a thought, have tresure rewarded when you return from an explore run when you return to the city (like unclaimed items with a mission) and remove the treasure chests but that introduce if I warp / leave group issues / opps Im out of room.
alexmeier175
well to tell teh truth the botting in that area was blatant .I mean I was standing in seeker's reach and I could litteraly count the stream of bots running bakck and forth..not to mention the lag!!!!!!!!!
Besides adding a few monsters just amkes it more fun

This makes it so that a program cannot read it, but people can. Ticketmaster does this to prevent people from "bot -buying" tickets. If it works for them, it will work for GW.
