If you learn your friend's name, you can type it into the friend's tab (look for the menu at the bottom left of your window in game), which will save his name so you can see when he's online, and message him regardless of where you guys are (if he's offline, then the message will be kept for him until he comes back).
Edit: said bottom right at first, should have been left.

Yea it usually is not too hard to find someone. The main problem is making sure you are in the same district. This can be achieved by simply messaging your friend your district # and he/she can join the same district. Once there, you just have to decide to meet somewhere. For example "I am by the bridge" or something along those lines.

And making sure you're not making the mistake of him being in Pre-Searing Ascalon, while you're in Post-Searing Ascalon.
Had that problem when 2 guild mates (one trying it for the first time, and thus starting at 0) wanted to play a bit together to test it.

Is there a /who command where you can search all online players based on name, class, level, zone, etc?
This was a fantastic tool in WoW to find that elusive priest for your repetative rewardless BRS run.

Stupid BRS runs...
We won't need to find monks though since we have two in the guild already who are dedicated active players. Damage Dealers are always a dime a dozen, you as a Mesmer will probably also be in demand. Play a scarce proffesion and people will come looking for you.
On a related note, are there any console commands or a console of any type in GW? I don't recall using or seeing one when I played oh so long ago.
