Hydra Breeding Programme...
pfb
Is it me or has a Hydra Breeding Programme been set-up to reintroduce Hydras to the North and East of Augury Rock after the senseless hunting of them?
Since the past day or so every time I've gone out that way I've been immediately hit by 5-7 mobs of Hydras (each Mob being 2 or 3 Hydras) and then just round the corner by the second collector I get hit by 8-12 mobs...seems that the Breeding Programme is working
I can just about get through by running but there is not much chance of standing around and getting hit by 10-21 fireballs and meteors in 1 go...and that's before I get to the second lot...
Maybe a Hydra Relocation Programme is now needed

I know extra mobs were put up in Seeker's Passage but this is right outside Augury Rock (some distance away)...unless there were extra mobs put in other areas without those areas being listed...

Due to severe overpopulation, we have reinstated issuance of hydra hunting licenses, available for 5p from your local skills merchant.
Yes, there's a few of them. So stop running. You don't have to fight all of them, but you need to fight some of them. Besides, they're not that hard to kill. Their casts are extremely long and if you watch them for any length of time you know they have the same opening move. Just carry one interrupt. It will be enough.
Is there a specific reason you are trying to skirt around them?

those 3 hydras (the 2 normal ones and the red boss) in Seekers Passage are impossible! When i went into there little area behind the collector, i was killed within about 3 seconds (Im a lvl 20 necro). I then realised that all you had to do was wait a bit, because after a while they walk around and it gives you a chance to slip in, ... but then i got killed a bit later on. The next thing I know, all 3 of the bastards are spawn camping outside the respawn teleporter thingy (which is a least a mile or so away) ugh...

Not too fussed personally but just seemed that there is an increase in Hydras around that area...

I have the same problem with them
3 hydras mean death to half of my party. I'm a l20 E/N, i tried it with enfeble to weakne them and stoning for a knockdown
i strat the battle with the enfeeble, they start to cast their meteors and fireballs, i immediately cast my stoning an guess what, even the meteors are only stopped in 50% of all cases due to them being knocked down, a fact that usually stops my casting for 100%
with 0.75 aftercast and 1 sec for the stoning i should even be able to knock one down before the fireball gets off.
and those stormriders are insane groups of 4, always fast travelling so that you usually end up fighting a second mob after you killed the first one with the usual result of a party wipe.
But i think that the sand golems are even nastier than those hydras.
For a soloer (+ henchies) a though area, a bit to tough imho.

Than
Hydras are rather easy. They just Backfire themselves to death while the rest of the party cleans up the left over hp.

If you think hydras are difficult, wait till you try the ascension missions. Damn Forgotten!
Like someone said, carry an interrupt and hydras are quite easy. With two henches (Orion and Alesia) my lvl 20 warrior/mesmer can take out up to three easily. Four is a bit tougher, I've not found a way to keep the fourth one off Orion/Alesia so one of them some times to go down.
Now, soloing the ascension with henches when you're a warrior/mesmer, THAT is tough. In fact I think it's impossible.

3-4 Hydras is easy...but I'm getting 10-15 at once attacking (with another 5-10 behind them), and then around the corner by the second collector similar amounts...
I've done 2 of the 3 Ascensions missions and they're fairly easy - just 10-15 Hydras at once swamps my poor little W/E...

I find hydras much tougher than forgotten. Reason? You don't get 4+ forgotten casters to attack you at once. Hell, it doesn't even happen with Mursaat Elementalist as 4+ Chains would means certain death w/o some sort of protection spell.
If you wanted to give example of nastier monster - how about Spark of Titans. Damn these little buggers.

Friend of mine farms them.

Just somewhat off-topic but still on the "Breeding" part, did someone farm in the Borliss Pass region too or something? I've just went through there with my 3rd char and i don't know if i'm becoming crazy, but i do not recall 3+ ettins WITH the stoneguys+ice gollums groups. Either i'm becoming weaker with every char or something because i was getting wasted.....i seriously do not recall Ettins right outside Yak's Bend -> Borliss Pass [and all over the place]. [Only in the mines and when you go to Kryta/ice-caves did i previously some them in such groups]. Did they breed too?
dansamy
I think there is a mass population overgrowth in the monsters of Tyria. They don't want farming, but their solution is to quadruple the spawn rate? 2 guildies + Alesia if you can't self-heal and it's open season.

@silvertemplar: how many quests do you got open? depending on the amount of quests an explorable area can turn into a crowded hellhole.

But yea i'm aware of that little problem with open quests and an area becoming infested. I experienced it at Piken Square when you have Sharpfang and Hammer+anvil and the ranger quest all still open...but i don't think i did something differently at Yak's to deserve so many Ettins. Only reason why it seems odd is that i don't recall Ettins on that road -at all- .
I've actually started to wonder whether they secretly implemented a "nightmare" mode [diablo style] for in case you think you can just run through the game with more characters :P

my new character bypassed that whole region - i just love to go north through the iron mines, coming back to the path of the masses near beacon's perch.
to focus on the problem: i know there is a ettin encounter after bringing the refugees to some npc - maybe they rushed through there: i've seen mobs off path several times in diffrent areas - happens if you play longer in same map (dunno what's it based on, just guessing wildly ^^)
best ettin encounter i faced was while chasing the hog in ascalon settlement - on my way back to the farmer met 10 at once [oh yea, that was a quick one] i have no clue why all came instead of the usual 2-4
