Just out of curiosity...I was wondering what everyone's opinoins to these retarded builds are like. (ones not very good at PvP or Guild Battles)

Necromancer/Ranger
Basically, you are full summon caster. Cast all your undead and Beasts to fight for you, and give them all the support buffs you can while you just sit back and relax...lol

Necromancer/Mesmer
Just exactly what can you do with this??? Have your minoins attack while you debuff your enemy?

Elementalist/Necromancer
Sounds interesting...have dark minoins, ability to do mass damage from both skill types, and also heal yourself...but wouldn't a Healer be better with one of those 2 classes?

umm...that's about all the odd ball classes I can think of. If you have any others and a reason why they would be wierd, please post .

As a N/Me... I don't think of it as an "Odd Ball Class" more than I think the Mesmer/Elemental is an odd ball class Not all successful Necros use minions...

But currently, I'm heavy into Curses, Death and Illusion... I'll switch it up a few more times before I finish the game I'm sure, and while I do PvP, as well... I can drop someone fairly quickly, provided I'm not interrupted (long cast times are my only gripe with the necro class in general)... Weaken a group, and disease a lot... I'm just not great on AoE, but that's what Ele's are for, right?

I know you meant this as a funny thread, but it only shows your ignorance in the roles possible by various character types in a team.

Not serious about the game, just curious as to what prompted you to post those classes as "Oddball"? I'm guessing because you couldn't come up with a use for them, it made them odd....

Have fun all...

I'm currently playing a lot an E/Ne... he just got lvl 18. I haven't found much use for him in PVP yet, but i think Air Magic and Curses will be pretty effective if i get a team that can cover me well enuf. Necro's can do a lot of cool stuff, and with the Ele's enormous mana-pool, they can do it a LOT.

But again, i haven't found a surefire build with the character... haven't unlocked all the skills yet, so if anyone has any comments i'de love to hear 'em.

with a lot of weird class combinations its usually just a person playing the primary class and using the secondary for one or two skills... like a nec/ranger with a level 1 pet that he repeatedly lets die and res for bodies and soul reaping triggers, or an ele/necro thats a nuker with rend enchantments. Nec/mes is pretty good at debuffing...

Strange builds are like R/Me running Illusionary Weaponry, or a Me/Mo running smiting prayers and Illusionary Weaponry (only seen one of these).

elementalist necros would shy away from minions, because, frankly, they suck without the necro's soul reaping ability to compliment death magic skills. default minion masters suck anyway, as do most other default pvp builds that are put up against a well-made custom build. Necro rangers do tend to be better for minion master builds, and air elementalists need very few secondary class skills, but mesmer and necro are the 2 most popular IMO.

Never guilded ;-)

N/Me can do a pretty huge variety of things. If there is a role that needs a little boost (examples not in any order: healing, direct point damage, direct ae dmg, anti-caster or anti-melee) in a group, an N/Me can probably do it.

I can hex the living hell out of you, or raise an undead army against you and use them as living, fighting bombs, as EN regen, and as HP regen for me. I can use my N/Me to deny you enchantments, deny you healing, deny you energy, deny you movement, shut down or slow down your attacks, shut down or slow down your regen if not reverse it, deny you areas of the map, and thereby deny you life.

N/Mes have a ton of choices regarding playstyle and viable options in a group. They aren't usually super flashy, but they are definitely flexible and versatile.

A good custom one is... the default minion master sucks even for support, apart from their death nova spams.

I love my Me/N. Basically you hex the crap out of enemies. You don't interrupt and you don't debuff. You just support your party by slowing, weakening and dominating enemies. I don't do PvP so I can't say how well it works in PvP but it works great in PvE. You make your party's life alot easier with indirect damage spells.
Fast Casting/Domination/Curses for the win!
By no means is it an odd-ball class.

I'd prefer using illusionary weaponry with hundred bl- oh thats right its elite now. In that case, i like using illusionary weaponry with cyclone axe and flurry. So far, it's the most powerful build i've seen in terms of spike damage, and in pvp only the air elementalist does more damage. IMO...

I use a ranger mesmer and find that spells like imagined burden and crippling anguish are nice because I can get some nice shots off and/or set traps around me before a warrior can get to me.

Also a good runner is a Ranger Warrior. I have one in my guild and when you need to run he can fill almost all his skill slots with sprint skills.

Another good, yet strange combo is monk warrior. I have one of those and can tank pretty well when I want to (although my skills are currently focused on healing and protection and will probably remain that way) It also gives you a couple sprints. Even though I don't have strength (primary attribute only) the 2 I have last 8 sec. each.

Hi,

What about an E/W build ? Isn't this build pretty strange? As an Elementalist you would have the lowest armor rating, and being a secondary Warrior you probably couldn't tank. The only benifit I could see is if your build had to fight in close for a second or two. How would you even use this build?

ne/m or m/ne is the greatest support in the game IMO.

hooray for all the n/me's coming out of the woodwork!

As has been stated it really is a flexible partnership allowing you to build against almost any other class.

I would agree with mcs that it's the best support class as it combines two classes that are generally there to weaken and disrupt (mark of pain, spirit shackles, backfire, empathy, shadow damage) the enemy while boosting your parties offence and durability (wells, blood is power, etc).

I'm surprised anyone could think combining two support classes is oddball.

I think some people (OP?) have yet to have that little light bulb moment...

In pvp, the warriors no longer tank as far as i've seen. If you can avoid them cause they do no damage, then leave them. Whos next? The support class. This is where, while you aren't a front runner in tanking (though you could be with armor of earth, kinetic armor, etc), you can survive longer if you bring an evade or some other tactics related item. Or sprint. Also, you could go a warrior type route, just put on armor of the mist and you have more armor than a warrior not to mention the other armor buffs that do stack (i've tested this many times), you could conjure element for your weapon, you could do burst damage and slow people with water at the same time. Its a perfectly viable class.

To tell you the truth, I think minions are the worst part of necromancy. Unless you run that psychotic PvP build, there's a general lack of "ammo" (corpses) to exploit in PvP situations. Blood and Curses are better, IMO. But death magic can be useful too ... just not the minions part.
