PvP: It would take about 166 wins to unlock a skill in random/team arena. It would take a pretty long time to get 1000 faction especially when you factor in the time spent on losing matches. Each match is on average 2 minutes long. 166*4 if assuming same win/lose ratio and you got 11 hours per regular skill.

PvE: It would take at most 1 hour (usually like 20 minutes) with traveling and stopping to kill a few monsters to do a skill quest, which sometimes gives more than 1 skill reward.

Tournament Victory: 20 for the first, 40 for all subsequent

Guild Victory: 200 to 500, depending on your guild rating

I believe they are trying to encourage guild battles since the name of the game is " GUILDWARS" . I would bet that most people who are serious about pvp and that is all they do are in a guild since it would be frustrating to try and pvp with out an organized group all the time

Wow, update has been for, what, few minutes and you already tested it and *know* it is unbalanced. And where does that 166 come from?

Please, at least try out the new update before complaining like a drooling idiot.

Most "hardcore" PvPers do GvG and Tombs. Arenas are just areas to pass time with....so I'm not surprised that ANet give them less emphasis.

If all you do is just random arena anyway....getting skills unlocked is not as much of a matter since its all random.

Need to recruit some people for our guild so we can get back to GvGing. Unfortunatly, our faction per win will probably be on the low end, since in our days of inactivity, it has declined very quickly.

Don't forget about kills too, even though its not much it will push along the process.

Only thing I'm worried about is following abuse:

a top team creates a new guild and starts doing guild battles until they reached a certain guild rank, then they delete the guild and start a new one.

Winning will be easy for them, because they are battlening guilds with a rank of 100-700, so, atleast some, easy wins for them. But we will see if people are going to abuse this...

That's the prupose of the scaling faction based on guild rank (top guilds get 500 faction per win, lower guilds get 200 per win), and the faction reduction after guild swapping. It's a lot more productive to just stay in your top ranked guild, assuming you can get matches on a regular basis.

One thing I wonder.
Only PvP players with a PvE char can unlock thru faction, since there are only Priests in the PvE towns.
So they still encourage both PvP and PvE.

I think A-net wants people to play through the main game at least once. Also, it shouldn't really take more than 10-15 hours to get to a balthazar shrine =P

Are we sure that it scales from 500 to 200 that way or is it vice versa to try and give lower end guilds a boost?

Also, isn't there a note about freshly made guilds recieving a faction penalty per win?

I wouldn't see this as an abuse/exploit. Since they are that good anyway, they deserve to have faction points to unlock stuff. Besides, the 2 week cool down rule means you can't just create guilds on the fly and benefit immediately from it.

It should actually be around 71 wins per skill in random arena. You get 2 faction for each kill so: 6+(4*2)=14 ; 1000/14=71. Only exception being most kills contests, although you will probably get even more kills there.

so for each kill it's 2 points. possible abuse issue coming up? die/res/die/res and repeat.

I'm gonna like this new update methinks. It's gonna balance out the price of sup vigor and absorbation.

I'm hearing some negative feedback that this is too expsensive to buy things and the prices should be cut in half or more. I think that would help, but I'm not complaining about this. It's far greater than what we had.
