A warning? not really sure. just happened.

k heres the thing.

i was ingame. looking at the new necrotic armor at grotto.
when suddenly i was whispered by someone. saying:

"nice staff"...

here i am. remembering the old diablo days. when somone was able to see your equiped gear with a program or whatever it was.

here my question: Is it happening again? now to GW?

im not naming. but i do have the screenshot.

I have no idea how he/she could have seen my staff w/o me showing in a trade window.

has anyone experienced this w/ somone in a city b4?

if a trend is about to start. plz Anet do something about this...

If its only the line "nice staff" and nothing else then you are paranoid. Did the person say what stats your staff had or anything?

maybe he/she was picking up on you. the comment, " nice staff" could mean something else completely!

They could have been talking about your other staff.

Maybe you have a Raven staff or something, and they liked how it looked...

had you chatted in ALL/TRADE recently?

perhaps they wanted to whisper someone who posted just before or after you and clicked on your name by mistake as the chat scrolled as it does.

and that person they were trying to whisper was selling/talking about a staff

the person said. "nice looking staff"
this was in "town". you cant hold things in town for ppl to see on hand things right?
nope i had no previous trades w/ anyone. i just got to grotto and went to armorer.

Yeah, you sure they were talking to you? Or that they could see the staff? Or could they actually see the stats?

block out the names on your screenie and post it to show us

ensure you remove the names, otherwise your thread might get closed

i had the death staff from collectors.

i dont know who this person was. they just pmed me.

Yeah, it could have just been a total misschat. I do that a lot.

Did you try responding to him? Maybe he just made a mistake.

it can only have been a mischat under 3 circumstances

1 : clicked the wrong name in chat window (not the case as OP has pointed out)
2 : having a similar name as another character, mis typing the name in the whisp box getting the wrong person
3 : read something in a "ALL" chat bubble above someones head, and think it came from the wrong person (ie, your standing in between the two people, so the chat bubble is above your head). and then using the name at your feet to whisp to.

if none of these are a possiblity, then its either some stupid joke/prank or something alot worse

Yeah you can't hold items in your hand when in town so no one can see what you have equiped. Its very hard to miss when someone whispers you to, you get a blue text name and at least for me, a little beep when someone whispers me. There is no mistake other then they are talking to the wrong person. Which is hard to do on its own as you have to manually type in the person's name you want to whisper.

you can click on a persons name in the actual chat window to whisper them

ye i should have asked what they meant by it. but ive experienced this type of ingame thing ie diablo and it just didnt surprise me at the time...thats why i wanted to bring this out and see if anyones seen it too.



the 1st erased is a whisper from that person. and hes not even on screen on this one. i suddenly got the msg out of knowhere. i basically had to scan through the crowds of ppl to find his name. which i also took a screen of their character w/ name.

again to clarify: i just entered the grotto. i didnt do any trade windows. i went straight for the necro w/ new graphic armor(on the screenshot). i get the msg. i find the guy that msged me. took screens. that's all i did.

its just very weird...

to AKA: exactly. that's why i posted this. cuz i experienced this in diablo where ppl did have something that could look into your gear.

I haven't heard of any spy programs in game yet. That is pretty creepy, though.

yeah, maybe he/she was referring to the henchmen who work for you

i do. hope that person msged the wrong person(me).

but again. this charac was not even close to me at all. so if he was chatting w/ one of the other necros around me w/ a trade window. he should be somewhere in the screenshot. cuz when you trade. person needs to be at close range. (he isnt in it)
