What do PvEers want?
Night Raven
Since i'm not quite far in the game (still in pre-searing) i haven't experienced GW as a whole.
But, to put my two cents in, an improved character customization at the BEGINING of the game would be nice.
More hair styles, color, facial traits, scars, tatoos and maybe the possibility to dye your armor at the character creation screen. That way, you'll not walk by 3 of your clones after 10 minutes of play.
I know, it's not WoW and there are no monthly fees, so i shouldn’t complain.

I want a way for players to take part in the larger story or actions. Things like Raids as they exist in other games simply can't/don't with the current system. I want to fight with fifty humans on my side (vs. humans or mobs, either way).
These can be at set times or whatever.

Biggest thing I'd like to see are changes to the Guild HAll. Things like Ingram suggested; Traders, crafters, and an armory. I'd also like to see a Guild storage. Not something where you just store stuff in it and anyone in guild can take it out, but something along the lines of only officers can access it unless a specific item was put in for a guild member and only he could retrieve it.
Another suggestion I liked was the customization/diferentation of armors/weapons. Just being able to make myself look differnet than the 50 other rangers in a town besides my armor color or cape would go a long way.
All in all, I've really had no "real" complaints about the PvE side. It's good the way it is, but it can be made great.

Basicly a pve chr. should be able to grow so strong that he/she is able to slay a group of 3 high level monsters and 1 boss on his/her own (alone). What I would like is:
-Unlimited leveling
-Differend kind of maps with more freedom to go anywhere (less labyrinth alike maps)
-*MUCH* better itemdrops, especially from bosses.
-More variation in items that improve skills.
-Some small random levels with high level monsters on maps after ascending.
-A REAL way of crafting items: player based, combining stuff to create something new.
-Missions should be optional, meaning that there is always another way to reach the same spot (with the exeption of the end-of-game mission and the mirror/doppolganger mission).
-End of the Favor system

I enjoy PvE.
I like it the way it is, they did a really good job with it and every moment I spent in it was an enjoyable experience.
The only problem I have with it is that it's over. Done everything so now it's UW/Fissure.
I want the next chapter is what I want.

I think a completed quests and mission list would be very nice. Glancing down your Huuuuge list would give you a great sense of accomplishment - I guess. Maybe even a list of all the cool weapons you've had. Giving back the /age values would be nice since people want to know how much they have played.

I want to fight an army of Charr with an army of friends. I want eight groups of eight people against hundreds upon hundreds of Charr (Level 20+, of course) with complex, non-scripted AI (Believe it or not, such a thing does exist) on a massive battlefield with large amounts of open plains, hills, ridges, chokepoints, forests and bog marshes.
I want an economy that works. I want gold sinks, gold sinks, and more gold sinks. I want rare items that are actually worth buying. I want a weapon crafting system that will consume pre-existing resources hundreds at a time, but will allow you to create a weapon with whatever bonuses and appearance you want. (Want that fellblade with +15% dmg when HP > 50%? Better start saving your obsidian shards.)
I want Guild Hall customizability. I want to be able to make my Guild Hall look better than everyone else's. I want my Hall to have a storage agent, and a merchant, and a treasury, and maybe even a brewery. I want a casino to bet on matches in the Hall of Heroes.
I want more high-end content. I want more things to do than just farm for items, or to do Fissure and Underworld quests for skill points. I want more hard to reach places like Dragon's Gullet, The Falls, and Mineral Springs, just I want them to be worth travelling to. I want more dungeons. I want more Glints. I want it to be worth going through the trouble.
I want more goals -- skill points, loot, and exploration don't cut it. I want a challenge as difficult for a PvE'er to attain as the winning the Hall of Heroes is for a PvP'er, I want it to be announced throughout all the shards when I complete it, and I want all those in my shard to experience the same benefits as can be acquired from the Hall of Heroes, but in a different way. I want more Faction points with gods other than Balthazar which accomplish things for the PvE'er as the Balthazar Faction accomplishes things for the PvP'er.
I want to go on, but I can't think of much more.

I like the suggestions above, but I love GW as is as well. Guild Wars is fun. Sometime I think people forget that. I love the idea of 8 teams of 8 fighting a billion Char. That would rule. But what also would rule is an amazing competative rpg that doesnt have a monthly fee. If those two things are not compatable I would rather have the latter and save the former for the 8 hours a night that I dont play GW .

What would I like? Hmmm....
Just a few of the things that I'd like.
- An end to the incessant need to separate the game into two different halves. The game was meant to incorporate PvP and PvE. It makes sense, to me at least, that the ability to go to the FoW/UW is based on favor gained from PvP ability in your country.
- A good variation in the armor/weapons/items available in PvE/PvP
- A way to remove/mute a player who is being a problem while on a mission
- A way to kill the botplayers that are ruining the game and economy for the rest of us (pipe dream)
- Armor choices based on your secondary class as well.
Just a few of the things that I'd like.

Better spell effects on the field. Puffs of smoke just ain't cuttin' it.

I dont know why.... its just a thing that should be in a game... and maybe a eating system?

and if you kills alot of goodies you should start buying evil looking armors and you skin would change color and become dark... and in the end become angel or a demon or something like that... else i like the game... oh and some more gold... im kind off in need of such.... oh and cheaper dye!"¤!%!% i cant even afford a black.... i never could... and if my suggestions should become real i would kill the dye trader bechause of his high prizes... they are about 5 G worth!!!! hmmm... i would become the devil himself just by killing dye traders.....

And also, I know several people who actually did dump the game then. The whole Ascalon realm seems like a bad place to start a game.

I'm generally happy with the PvE side of the game. (PvP too, but that's another thread, rawr!) I'm just finding myself running low on gold and materials quite a bit, but that's due to terrible management on my part. :P
Arena.net has been very responsive, and for that alone I am very pleased. (.. you all should be, too!) So for now I continue to pray that all of these 'suggestions', don't cause some huge change that will ruin my gaming experience.

I want enemies who don't have to be ten levels higher than I am ever able to reach, as the one and only way to make them slightly challenging for me. And I do mean slightly.
I also want end-game areas that do not require the off-chance that my region has favor when I play, as I like to play when I like to play.
I also sometimes like to play on my own/with henchies without having to worry about:
a) Henchies being retards.
b) Popping into UW/FoW all by my lonesome because no one from my guild (who is ready for or even capable of entering aforementioned areas) is on and I have bad luck with PUGs.
I could totally settle for just nixing b, though.
Oh, and weird in-game Eve looking nothing like cover-of-game-box Eve, but >_>
<_<
Maybe a PvE reason to get guild halls, too. Or at least stuff to do in them besides explicitly PvP battles. eg. I know there's been a lot of talk about customizing them - I look forward to more info on th is.
Edit:
Here here!
Oh and one more thing: 15k armor sets with all their bloody graphics -_- If they weren't done by the time the game went retail, why even include them? Are we paying for and playing a beta?
Which reminds me, I'm too lazy to check the game updates, did they give Ranger's 15k Druid's set 15k graphics yet?
And why do some of them look uglier than their 1.5k sets?
And... other armor set stuff... I mean if they're gonna be so expensive (15k && FoW, etc.) then they should be incredibly extravagant theme-wise, and also diverse.
And maybe more parts to customize our toons in character creation for appearance. God I feel so limited. Where is the long hair for male warriors? And why are they all super beefy conan types? And the inverse for females.
Okay now I'm just ranting ^^

Many more explorable areas...hopefully an entire continent.
I would like to see larger areas, not small ones like Dreadnoughts Drift, more like the Arid Sea.
Unique items to be proud of.
Clothing...if i could wear a cowboy hat while hunting, that would be great.
More quests/missions...especially those that contain puzzles and things that need brains.
Hopefully there could be quests that can be done solo too.
Arena for PvE - go against increasingly difficult waves of monsters that would test the toughest of players to the limits. Boss monsters at every 10 rounds which drop great weapons etc.(please make solo playing an option too!!).
Greater customising of weapons and armour. More weapons and armour too.
I would like to see spears, crossbows, slingshots, dart guns, blowpipes, daggers, throwing knives, spiked boots/gloves (kick/punch the enemy. Maybe that would be delving into skills)
A possible new skill could be a football/rugby tackle (especially for a warrior) Lunge yourself on that bashing grawl and deck him, lol.
Tripwires for rangers. Very fast and cheap to setup, quite spammable. Just trips the enemy with no damage being inflicted.
I would also like to see (but this delves into PvP)...
A massive area/areas where you can play deathmatch against anyone who wants to join.
No mobs areas and some with mobs would add spice to the game but make the mobs drop no loot obviously.
It would be funny to lure that warrior into that sand wurm, hehe.
1v1 gladiator arenas...challenge your friend or guildmate to a duel!!!

I've been told im vain and shallow because of what I want out of the game. sooo
heres what a shallow vain person wants :P
1 : Shields to actually do what shields are supposed to do (ie block at least SOME ATTACKS)
2 : 1 handed and 2 handed versions of every weapon class (not every weapon)
3 : the ability to dye the other portion of the armor
4 : to buy justicar hablions armor
5 : open the crypts up from pre-searing in post-searing so we can run around with random mobs, for end-game characters
6 : have guild emblem on shields
7 : or just something other than a full length cape (tunic? pouldron banner? etc)
8 : the ability to create a character of 1 class only, and get bonus' for focusing on just a single class instead of two.
thats all for now.

oh, above all else (and I might be the only one)
first person mode is crap at the moment!
have it remove the models head, place the camera there (linked to the body) and the body visible, or at least so in first person mode you can see your arms and weapons.
create a "bubble" of sorts around the camera to prevent clipping into creatures.
that'd be awesome! I love First person RPG's (morrowind for example)

I like the tranquit atmosphere, the story building, the titan statues which allude to end level mobs.
It's the bestest coolest darnded place in kryta.

Wow, so where to begin, let's see...
1. Simple Henchmen commands. An example being, say, using Ctrl+Space while targeting yourself will bring up the "I'm following Velvet Bunny" text, and also cause your henchmen to back off from attacking and follow you until a new target is called. And after this...
2. Ability to take lvl 20 Henchmen into the UW/Fissure. Yeah, it will be very difficult, maybe even near impossible, but atleast a henchman will never take every quest from every npc in sight. Unlike alot of players who seem to have ADD and must touch everything and take every quest they see even when told not to 500 times prior.
3. More UW/Fissure type areas with a large single landmass, and lots of interelated quests. I imagine Sorrows Furnace will be like this when it comes out.
4. Large, difficult, single "boss" type mob encounters. An example of this that everyone would know is the fight with Glint. I have high hopes for more encounters of this type in Sorrows Furnace with the large "robot" we saw in the trailer for it, that would be one fun fight!
5. Quest rewards other then more experience points. Maybe allow a choice in rewards like 5,000 exp, or 5,000 gold. One or the other, but not both. This would give those who want to unlock more skills for PvP that chance, but also give us mostly PvE people who have no need to unlock every skill for PvP a chance to receive a useful reward. Or give a choice of a random purple/gold item, etc.. There is really alot of ways to do it.
6. This is more of a wish, and will likely never become reality for many reasons, but obtaining a skill on one Roleplaying character, would enable it for ALL your roleplaying characters. I'm sure it would unbalance something somehow though.
7. Ability to change your guild cape appearance... yeah so i just got tired of my cape and wanted to change it =P.
8. Well thats it for now, i'm sure i could come up with more though given time.

At first I hated PvP and only did PvE. But After I finished the game I wanted to branch out So I started building Up a Memser for PvP and I like it. I will do both. PvE and PvP. I like both.

I think PvE needs to be harder. And by harder, I don't mean put 300 more hydras on every mission. That's just annoying and monotonous. I'm not sure how you can achieve this for Guild Wars. More intelligent enemies goes a long way, I suppose.
Also, making skills available ealier in the game, for me, makes it more fun. Rather than having to several missions with pre-sear skills until you get up near Yak's Bend, and then using really bad skill sets until you get to Lions Arch and find 1 more useful skill, it would be nice to develope a character rather than just getting your favorite skills piece by piece. But for PvE purposes, this still needs to reward you with a feeling of developement. I just think moving through linear missions to get to the next outpost feels rewarding. Greywind runs come to mind, as he can give you skills, but there's not an outpost very close to him, and stuff.
Also, I think it would be cool if there was some sort of 'Art of Defense' style map (you may remember this custom map from an old RTS). Pretty much, you're placed within the confines of a small area (in the case of that game, a small building area), and had to survive for __ hours to win. Every 2 minutes or so, a new bombardment of enemies would spawn and attack. It would be cool if you could gain a sort of PvE ranking off of this, as there is no current way to rank someone's PvE skills. It would have to be very hard. Perhaps start with small enemies, and towards the end, you're fighting things you only see in the likes of the Fissure and Underworld.

1. The ability to farm. Now that the pvp people have their reward system in place let the pve people have their farming back. Let Us Pray; Please Dear God, the ability to farm.
2. Drops that somewhat equal the monster lvl. Random drops from random monsters is ok, but if I kill a boss I want a reward better than a normal weapon. (Gold is always welcome as a reward.)
3. The ability to walk without the damned invisible walls. I can run up and down vines that are at a 75 degree angle but a 15 degree rise I cant climb? Dosen't make sense to me. I should be able to get up a hill by more than the invisible maze that I can't see only run into. (No more forced paths let me create my own way. Just might want to avoid those 3 dozen charr while soloing.)
4. Soloing. Oh God how I would love to be able to solo. I don't mean with mindless henchies. I mean truely solo, by myself, alone, without encumberment of another, solo. All but impossible as it is now. (Try to get across the wall in pre Solo ...go ahead try....go on try it)
5. Elite skills beyond your specific class. Nothing as rewarding as killing that difficult boss after a 15 minute battle and using your capture and seeing their skills are not available to your character. Wow nice fight for NOTHING. (Hmmm.... Was the reward drop was crappy too? Yep, useless white cane you couldn't even sell as a starter weapon.)
6. A more crippling death penality that only allows you to have 10 health and 2 energy and allows only one skill every 15to 20 seconds. (Seems stupid and pointless huh? Then get rid of death penalty in pve.)
7. Weapons mods that allow skill as a mod. (example: Bow 12-20 dmg w/ Lvl 2 Healing Breeze or Sword 10-18 dmg w/ lvl 3 Death Touch) Primary use with a secondary skill.

More EAs is always nice. Challenging, smart enemies would be cool. In particular, Mesmer/Ranger interrupter/energy denial foes. Not enough of those.

What I want for PvE:
1. No more of this "you must forfill your prophecy", or "you are the chosen one!" crap. It doesn't just 'get boring', but it is lame, and it is boring from the start.
2. More description of what things do, weaknesses, etc. They said the game is about your skill, and not the time played... and yet, you can't figure out what is weak to what, how to counter something else, etc. To find out where to go, and what to do quicker, or especially to obtain elites, YOU HAVE TO RESORT TO A GOOGLE SEARCH, OR OTHERWISE SEARCH THE INTERNET/SITES!!!. So.... I want them to give a bit more in-game hints/givaways as to where to unlock elites through signet of capture.
3. Better drops, and more easily found. Include uniques, and etc. Make rares more fun, and more easier to find. This is real fun, because it makes it so you don't have to go and pay the guy who says "WTS: 12-18 dmg longbow for 2k", or "WTS: black dye for 5k, it's 5013 at dye trader, 13 less!!!!".
4. A wider variety of mercenaries (if possible).
5. Random good items given to those who complete missions and quests.
6. A way to kill mahgo hydras without having a party member die once you've tried to kill a group of 3 of them (this doesn't always happen, but happens quite often).
7. Cooler special effects (especially on spells).

1.) Well, actually, City of Heroes, has the best character creation model ever developed 1billion or more ways to customize a character, which would be great for this game. Doesn't need to be on that scale but something other than what we have would be an improvement.
2.) We need new maps, and large ones with the new updates. I finished the game in 2.5 weeks and with my 4th character (started at least 5 different characters for my forth slot) and it's getting old. I'm really not a pvp but am willing to play it to take some of the boredom away.
3.) Change the economy...100k for a rune is rediculous. I've only made 40k in this game, not a farmer obviously, but wish money was easier to get for some nice armor and runes.
4.) Change the item drops, some ultra unique stuff would be cool, I get squat from this game. After you complete all the missions/quests what's left other than pvp? You need to keep people interested in the game by keeping it replayable and that's not an easy thing to do. I played D2 for years and would have kept going but for all the stupid bots, hacks, and pker hacks... I played hardcore for the last 2 years of my gaming. EQ2 is doing a fine job with map expansions, that players haven't even come close to finishing even after a year of being released. To slow a game play for me, but otherwise a good game.

A few issues in PvE I'd like to see improved a bit.
- there is no decision made by the players... We got no influence on the story line, we just move forward, without option, as far as the storyline is concerned. I can understand that for the main plot (although I regret it), but some choices for sidequest could be fun and please the RPG lovers. The only choice is "Abandon" a quest...
- I'd like to be able to "unlock" basic template in a few places. I got friends joining the game now, and I already have characters which are a bit too high level to help them.
Sure, I can run Althea Ashes with a high level character to help someone... As much as I like that kind of quest, and how fun it is to do it with someone who never did it before, to do it with too high level a character somehow spoil the fun. I'd be way happier if I could create a lvl 6 whatever in Court or Piken and do it with that kind of "ready to play" template. Play a Henchman-like? (then add some variety to henchman...)
That would keep low level quest while helping beginners friends challenging. Both for the helper (who will get a henchie ), and for the beginner who will get a higher sense of accomplishment in a tough quest if a level 20 were not roaming around.
- makes the game tougher. For once I agree with Weezer... Although, adding a little level or a little more people per mob would not hurt. I am not sure it was like that before, and maybe it's part of the anti-bot policy, but I see more "moving mobs". And, in my opinion, that makes the game a bit tougher, so yep, add moving groups with complex/ odd patern. Part of that could also be used to make sneaking a bit more possible for smart groups.
That's all I can think about right now.

And that's because most have finished the existing missions and bonuses and Quests... and now all that's left is the grind, and most people HATE that... Grind is the Bane of RPG existence. but keeping new things happening gets people to make new characters, or replay the game to see whats new. Chapter 2 is going to be Very nice, because it will be new to EVERYONE. and it is expected to have a Very very short beta period, so beta testers will only have played a portion of it...

that's not what I was refering to. I enjoy the updates of quests and the fact that they add new quests every once in a while. I was refering to the policy that ArenaNet has adopted of changing whatever people are whining about. You whine....they jump....someone else whines...they jump again...rinse & repeat.

Make characters more dependant on other characters.
Put level limits on items and armor.
Close up the holes that allow players to exploit the game.
Stop trying to alleviate grinding and farming. Thus giving the people who don't want to grind and farm an excuse to say people who grind and farm have an unfair advantage.

more weapon and armor availabilty and variety....Im level 13 and have weak ass ringmail...and the cool weapon i do have ive had to buy from other players.
the ability to save during quests....i ve played for hours only to get killed by a mob of charr and had to start the whole bleeding mission over from the start,,,woulda been nice to have a save point some where in between.
expanded quests....or side quests that yield special items and experince points...not just working your ass off to fulfill the main quest for 500 xp and a normal sword.
merchants who sell more than salvage and id kits....jeez! like upgrades and weapons
towns with town folk in them! folks that will offer quest and healing and items and ....stuff
more quests in pre searing so that when you must create a new character its not the same old grind

I want people to stop arguing about PvE vs. PvP and enjoy the whole game the way I do instead of bickering, or is that too much to ask?

As both a Pvper and A pve'r ( I play both often , but with the same character), I got to say PvE is satisfying. Only 2 or 3 things id want to tweak, not change.
1. Get rid of the noobs in Temple of Ages by somehow implementing an invisible barrier with an I.Q test.
2. Bring farming back, but Put it in areas worthwhile, such as Underworld. Make it worth the hours spent.
3. Lastly , LET MORE GOLD SWORDS DROP! They are like the only thing in the economy that are selling for the cash.
But yeah, I love the PvE (except maybe Aurora Glade mission and The Wilds.)
