Mesmers are horrendeous for pve. Their skillsets are geared towards taking down one enemy well, while there are hordes in pve.

First, you will usually get an answer to any question within a few hours, or at least a day. Don't get impatient after 17 minutes.

Secondly, I agree with Enigmatics that Mesmer is, in fact, probably the least powerful class in PvE. It doesn't mean you can't play one, and being a Me/R is fine. You can focus on the ranger aspect if nothing else for PvE, and Mesmer rock in PvP.

I managed to painfully get my mesmer to level 20 and droknars -if you have the resources, get to droknars early (before the desert or sage lands) and cap illusionary weaponery. More people'll wan't you once they know you have the damage output. Ugh... you probably have no idea what I mean. Just keep in mind you can change secondary professions later, so you might want to lean towards a popular secondary, such as elementalist, and you'll do better until you wan't to transition back.
