I'm surprised nobody has pointed out how awesome this skill could be in an organized PvP group. Ever thought, "Oh man, those two elite skills together would be just broken awsome"? With this it's possible. You just have to work with it.

Yeah its good, but it costs a lot of energy and has a large cooldown. Also it only lasts for 20 seconds. This means thats its not so suitable for continually used spells (hundred blades + IW) because it just dosen't last long enough but the high energy cost also means it dosen't work so well with one hit wonder spells. Perhaps in conjunction with Elementalist primary with a lot of energy storage...you'd be able to chain together a couple of good elites.
...otherwise...I haven't heard of any major abuses of this skill. You'd be better off taking something good from your own set.

The only problem I see is you don't have the points in whatever skilltree you manage to steal the elite from, so it will probably be a pretty crappy result, yes?

true, but two mesmers could get together and figure something neat out..
and if their primaries/builds are similiar..
now the below would take even more planning/skill but..
with your elite being echo I guess you could still do 2 (although 2 for limited time) on top of the echo or
using arcane echo over elite echo you could have your elite, cast arcane echo, cast this nab 1, cast echod nab another
mind you once again your getting limited duration but.. if your serious about above echo probably would be the choice, and with 3 mesmers only one would need it as the other 2 could share?

As a e/me I don't have a good option to use the fast casting recovery, but I imagine a mesmer with that as one of their elites even makes the nabbing of an extra elite and use of echos/their grabs even more powerful..

This is also useful on spirit spam team. One teamate can have Greater Conflag and any other ranger/mes can copy it.

Team of 6 monks with SpellBreaker and Arcane mimickry, a Necro/Ranger with Aura of Lich and Quickening zypher, a Monk/Ranger with LifeBarrier Blessed Signet and quickening zypher to back up the first ranger.
The Monk ranger throws life barrier on the first 6 monks, QZ is kept up, the 6 monks jump in a chokepoint on the map to prevent anyoen from going after the spirits, Every 30 seconds they aracane mimickry the aura of lich from the necro/ranger and every 22 seconds cast spellbreaker on self. a staff with +20% enchant diration + blessed aura will make a constant 24/7 spellbreaker effect while having aura of lich and life barrier on all 6 monks.
Life Barrier + Aura of lich = 100% dmg reduced from all damage sources, you are now effectively immune to everything except energy degen and health degen.
Spellbreaker 24/7 means your immune to health degen + energy degen, and you can get your combo stripped from you no matter what.
This leaves room for roughly 3 skills on each of the 6 monks after all the skills so far added up. Fragility, a HP Degen Hex, and a condition Causing hex on each of the 6 monks would give you a perfect team that is made great from careful use of Arcane Mimickry.

LB+AotL doesn't = 0 damage from all sources. For one thing, if a Warrior combo needs 5 hits to kill you in normal builds, it will still kill you in five hits if you have on AotL. Yes, the damage is halved, but your max life is halved too! The damage percentage as it relates to your health bar is the same.
Also, re-read the descrip for Life Barrier. Even though it reduces damage by 52% at L16, that is a 52% reduction from your current max health, not the original amount you had before AotL was put on. So if a combo does 100 points damage, under AotL it does 50 points. but you're halfway to 0 life already so the actual effect breaks even. Life Barrier will take that 50 points and drop it further, but it will never get you to 0 damage taken.

An alternate use for this (on the right teams) is as a blend of Echo and Arcane Echo. It can copy skills (if they are elite), but is not elite itself. So if an Ele team wanted to spam Glyph of Energy with some skill (say Obsidian Flame), they could use this to copy a teammate's Glyph, giving them 2 in their bar. Echo is elite so it won't work, and Arcane Echo wonly copies spells. This would let you add3-4 more Obsidian Flmes that don't cause exhaustion into a 20 second span.
Unfortunately, it has a much longer recharge than the echoes,so you'd be limited in how frequently you could do this.

I found an interesting combination with this and my R/Me the other night - Arcane Mimicry combined with Oath Shot and a group of rangers using different ranger elites is a lot of fun. I was barraging, then using incendiary arrows, then I had escape, then spike trap... it was awesome.
Once you have played with the group for a little while, you know who has what elite, and can pick and choose. I did it in a PUG, but imagine what you could do with a little planning.

its cool, been using it on my ele/mesmer in pve. Being able to string 3 meteorshowers, 3 rodgorts invocations and a bunch of fireballs and still being at more then 70% of your energy is so much fun...

If another ele in your team has Elemental Attunement you can use this together with Searing Flames, even though it only stays for 20 seconds the Attunement stays on you for the full duration
