Necrotic/Tormentor Pros/Cons?

Hey, since they revamped the look of the 15K Necrotic, it got me thinking. Is the 10 higher armour per piece worth the tradeoff for reduced protection against holy damage? Roughly how much difference will the 10 extra armour make, and roughly how much extra damage will I be taking from holy? Thanks in advance.

Basically the only thing in the game that does holy damage would be Smiters. Smiters are rare enough in combat that I wouldn't worry about the increased damage (although if you do encounter a smiter, you're screwed).

I'm aware of what deals holy damage. Can anyone be a little more specific than "you're screwed". What exactly is wearing Necrotic/Tormentor paramount to then, not wearing any armour at all against them?

The 10 higher armour generally lets you take 84.1% damage from attacks, where armour 60 equals 100%, so for any attack that doesn't ignore armour you get decent results from it.

The damage taken from holy doubles, which can be pretty problematic in PvE - in PvP there shouldn't be much reason to worry about facing a smite monk that singles you out. Just in PvE: harmless skills like Banish and not-so harmless skills like Balthazar's Aura suddenly cause very scary spike damage. If you tend to play with henchmen this is a serious concern since you'll usually be at the forefront of battle, but in a team you can hang back and hopefully avoid the scrutiny of smiting monsters.

I haven't done extensive testing, but I've used Smiting skills a few times against Necros and I remember them doing double damage. The +10 armor will give you 16% damage reduction vs. everything. Now, think about how often you are the target of Smiting skills. I'd definitely go with the +10 armor.

You could always spend 6k + materials and buy the 1.5k version of the armor, just to see how you like it.

Thanks for the help, I think I'll end up going with the Necrotic after all, the only problem I can see are the Shadows around the southern shiverpeaks with signet of judgement.

AL wise, what does the reduces protection do? - 40AL vs smiting?

double damage would be ugly...
