Just a thought

I am neither mad about what happened to me, but I can't help but be bother by it.

I'll give an explanation of the occurance but withdrawing further detail. I was in a mission to help out, with the odd chance of hoping for a decent drop. While one item did drop for me finally, I did not have a chance to pick it up seeing as it would cause us to fail the mission, which I have already finished myself.
With everyone dead, I would not resort to getting said item and causing the team to fail in the mission. As I got everyone up and about and about to clear the mission someone picked up "my" item. And that was that.

I mentioned earlier to the group that I probably won't have a chance to pick it up under the circumstances.

This may just be miscommunication, so I'll chalk it up to that.
But I did inquire about said item. No reply was given.

All in all I had a great time. But it makes me wonder if I would ever get in a group other than my own guild/regular group of friends.

Just a semi-rant from a monk.

So I ask, what would you do in such situation? If you happened to be the one that picked it up said item, what would be your response? Would you abide by the rule of assigned drop?

I'm just tossing this in the air to see how the playerbase is/are.

Guess I"m asking if there are any decent people out there, that would do what's right instead of, ooh pretty gold item... all mine:P

Question is that of perspective.

Honor is a rare trait in your average video gamer, so rare that it's resigned to the rung on being a "word", one which sparks heads shaking in disbeleif and general apathy towards those who exhibit it. Those who abjectly spend their hours abusing this human trait are nodded and winked at.

I myself play to have fun. And fun for me is not giving two hoots about anything except the task at hand. My task at hand whenever i'm playing is do a damn fine job doing what I love doing.

I play a Monk myself and there's one thing that playing a healer has shown me - you do NOT have the time to cast even a cursory look over the chat tabs or the ground to check what's dropping, if anything for you. It's allways group movement, prioritising which group mates get the best investment as per the situation the group finds itself in while fighting and calculating energy/skill optimisation for the next situation coming up.

There have been occasions when my group mates have stopped the group from moving to point out a loot drop to me (complete strangers in PUGs) because i'm allways too involved with everything else but check for loot dropping. There have been times when i've gotten an ordinary drop which I dont care about to have another group mate (a stranger) go:

"Oooh. Silver dye/Strength req shield."

To which I just shrug and just give him the item. Because it's not a big deal to me at all. I dont really care. I dont need anything uber to be a fine gamer. While he/she is left silent because they dont know why im being "kind".

I'm not "kind" or whatever dammit. I just dont care. I'm going to not pick it up or going to trash it. You like it ? You got it.

There are gamers who play this way, there are gamers like ive met in PUGs who have pointed out to me some great loot which dropped for me...complete strangers who did it out of pure consideration and honor.

And there are gamers who are like those pointed out in the first post.

Smile out of greatfulness for the former, smile out of pity for the latter.

That's how I take it.

Be nice to do thje first then the second though, rare that it is.

Honor is more rare than gold... items. Which makes it something to treasure for sure. You earn respect with it. Terminal, you've got mine, well said.

I don't pay much attention to drops that aren't for me. I wouldn't want someone to take a drop of mine that I didn't have a chance to pick up so I leave theirs alone. Especially since they could still get the item from the "Unclaimed Items" box that appears after the mission. It's hard enough finding decent drops as it is.

What really bothers me are those that demand an item that dropped for you after you pick it up. A decent bow dropped for me and a ranger I was partied with ran up and tried to initiate a trade.

Ranger: bow
Me: What?
R: bow plz
M: Why?
R: don't have one, lost it
M: You entered a mission without a weapon?
R: just gimme the bow
M: I don't think so.
/run two steps to try to catch up with the group
/*ding* Ranger wants to trade

/run two steps
/*ding* Ranger wants to trade

/*ding* Ranger wants to trade
M: **** off, jeezus!
R: fine n00b

In the case of 'poaching' someone's drops, I wouldn't do it. And I think it's wrong. If The parties separated, I might consider picking it up and offering it to the player at a later time when things are less busy (ie everyone's been rezzed and the monsters in that area are all dealt with) But I certainly wouldn't charge for it.

In the second case of picking up a legitamate drop, then players are welcome to attempt to trade, but I'd like a measure of civility, so the ranger character in the example above would get a solid round of f************ off.

If the conversation went something like...

Ranger - What damage was that bow you just picked up?
Me - Hmm, looks like an 11-20 with +5 Energy (or whatever)
Ranger - ooh nice. Willing to trade?
Me -OK

Would get a better response.

But maybe that's just me. I'm polite to people and I prefer that people be polite back.
