Any one of the top guilds could easily only use premade builds with no runes and no weapon mods and still do extremely well. |
Dear ArenaNet: Please create a PvP venue where only current premade templates may be used.
Pros:
- Major: As fair and equal PvP as you can get from the day you buy the game. This doesn't exist yet in GuildWars, so it would seem to be a big deal. In all current PvP venues, there exist definite in-game advantages to players who have been playing longer. (Yes, I know that player who play more increase their skill, but that's good and an out-of-game consideration.)
- Major: Promotes creativity within the restrictive set of choices (largely in building a group out of the limited choices). Restrictions are a great way to bring about innovations.
- Minor: A good way for new players to get their feet wet in PvP (without feeling like they are "behind").
- Minor: ArenaNet can highlight particular skills and class combinations.
- Minor: Players can focus on learning a particular group of skills for a while, learning new tricks of the trade.
Cons:
- Major: Potentially splits the community: This divides the PvP community, possibly making it harder to find opponents. Only Arena can really figure out how much this would matter. (And yes, this assumes the new format would be successful at all, but that's something you have to assume for this particular issue.)
- Minor: Development time: Hopefully the initial setup would be reasonably minor; the restriction part would be the hardest bit. Periodically, Arena would need to provide new templates (if they don't want the metagame to stagnate). Though Arena seems to have indicated they would do this anyway.
