Could this obstruction (nerf) be any more BLATANT!
Karn Jazzik
Well, ive been farming trolls in the ice caves for about an hour or so... Enjoying myself actually, doing what I wanted to do!!
After a few runs, I find they have put an Ice Golem in the middle of the path! Luckily, the mountain trolls took a disliking to it and decided to give it a beating. Fair enough, next time I come back its no longer there.
A few more runs down the line, theres a Stone Summit Crusher... in the middle of the pathway to where I was trying to get to, not only is this only put here to stop people like me who are enjoying what they are doing because that is how they choose to play. BUT this also stands out like a sore arse because theres no other summit in this area of the map, there are Avicara and Grawl, but no summit.. so it not only attempts to nerf the area, but it doesnt stick with the theme of the environment. Its just a blatant slap in the face for people like me.
Why let us play if they are going to restrict EVERYTHING other than the linear story line.
*seriously becoming fed up*

IMO farming is just bad period. It's always been bad for any game economy period.
So I have no sympathy for you.
And if one ice golem is preventing you from killing things, well maybe you need to re-think your build.
They aren't hard.

Actually, There is a few different spawn patterns for every or most regions.
Karn Jazzik
read it again.. i did say "attempts".
If people choose to farm areas, its their own choice.. They paid for the game? Its like material gathers in other games "miners" each has its place. Im not starting a debate on whether farming should or shouldnt be in the game, i just think these "undocumented" updates are getting kinda annoying... Some of us like to play the game however we like to play it.
Example :- I used to like doing riverside with my warrior, alone just for fun not even for items, because heaven knows since release the items there suck, now you find that the monster layout has been changed, to include enchantment strippers at practically every encounter, meaning the the solo gamer (dont mention henchmen because the whole system seems pointless to me, half the XP etc... I'd rather play alone in less difficult areas than play with henchies that are stupid.) cant play solo.... I run a very good guild, have a good group of friends that I play with, but there are times when I want to do things alone.
Gimping areas making this impossible, is just becoming an annoyance. If they going to do that make the henchmen more intelligent than a loaf of bread.

Yeah I had noticed that, but there wasnt a single summit here before, in the first hour that I ran it, and I saw the spawn patterns cycling.

Oh I see.
So anet has no reason to ban hackers either. They paid for the game. They can do whatever they want.

Hackers, are going against the ToA... People playing by themselves (whoever they see fit) are not.
Caco-Cola
But they paid for it! I mean that's the point you're getting at.
You paid for it, you should be free to do whatever you want.
I'd suggest you either live with it or change the way you play. They have as much right to 'nerf' things (change content) as you do to farm for m4d l3wt.

No, they agreed to a contract upon creating their account that they would not 'hack' to bring things down to an easy level to understand, that is what they agreed to.
The way I play has no issue to do with this, sometimes I may want to relax, do something that is beneficial but not too taxing. What I am saying is, people should be allowed to play the game like this, after all who are they harming? BLATANT obstruction of how I choose to play the game, WITHIN the mechanics of the game, is just plain unreasonable.

I wish I could find the freakin TOS on Guildwars.com
You'd think they'd have it in a readily available place.
Regardless it's just the stock TOS that comes with every other game. That basically says that they own your account and are merely leasing it to you. Basically they can do whatever they want and you have no say in it aside from quitting.
It's in the TOS after all.
Edit: Ah here it is.
Basically all you own is a mere license to play the game.

I appreciate I have no say in it, and its their game. BLAH BLAH BLAH! This isnt the statement im making, if you would read the post rather than pigeon holing it with every other pro-farming post then you might be able to come to a more informed decision!
Change the game, improve it, add new content, change areas, make it more challenging im all for it!! Adding something that is as out of place as a dog in a chinese kitchen, just to prevent someone from farming that area? Takes away from the game. Its lazy, its a quick fix to a problem that will only manifest itself somewhere else.

I still go back to my original statement about not being able to kill one monster.
I honestly don't see the problem.
And no I'm not gonna change to a 'more informed decision' as this decision of mine has had several years to form and I do believe I've made my decision as to my stance on farming.

I dont have a problem with that single monster, I kill it in exactly the same way I kill anything else, adjust to it.. and take it down. Doesnt both me, what bothers me is the LAZY ATTEMPT to nerf an area.
Caco-Cola
They could've done a lot more.
And one monster doesn't nerf an area. Maybe it was there the entire time and you just never saw it before.
Edit: Man these forums use a lot of allusions to Don Quixote.

This is silly. When I first started reading this a was sure it was sarcasm at work... but it's not. Give me and everyone else a break. Did you really come here just to complain about an NPC on the road in the middle of an explorable area? Think about how messed up that is for just a second.
psycore
Actually if you paid any attention the golem and summit is a mistake in the spawn pattern, they both belong in north shiverpeaks and are both lvl 10, they show up randomly every now and then due to a busted spawn table.

Anyway, when I think of "farming", I don't really think about the items. Personally, I just like to gather a huge group of monsters and nuke them. It's fun, I like it, and I don't care what items I get from it. I know this isn't a common perception, but frankly, I don't care. You can still have fun doing that run and you can still get nice items while doing it, so I don't really know why you're complaining.
Numa Pompilius
_ONE_ intermittent golem and _ONE_ intermittent stone summit is a nerf???
</begin sarcasm>ANet sure have become more subtle. When they wanted to nerf farming in the passage in the crystal desert, they plopped in two dozen hydras and a boss. </end sarcasm>

http://guildwars.com/legal/default.html For the legal stuff, GWLA, EULA, etc etc.
As far as I'm concerned, play how you like, but don't complain just because you have an obstacle in your way that you actually have to fight to continue your little farming experiments. It's all well and good but it seems sort of, forgive the slight rudeness, no offense, lame, to complain about something so small.

This kind of thing will always happen with a relatively new multiplayer game. The only way to avoid it is to stick with games that have been around for years and have gotten through the more-or-less awkward balancing phase.
There are pro's and con's to everything. One of the pro's to getting in on the ground floor of an MMORPG is that you'll often get a lot of things easier than the implementors intended. One of the con's is the feeling of 'nerfing' when they get around to balancing that area.
The only way to avoid feeling like you're getting hosed is to realize that you are benefiting as well, and to relax and roll with the flow.

One thing I've never understood is this whole completely over-used term "nerf".
Had they actually took your chests, or monster drops and lowered them to a ridiculous level without any change or a lessening of the monster quality, making it all soft and squishy so to speak.. I would have called that a nerf.. .
Had they just made the monsters tougher or a little easier and left the drops alone.. within reason.. or made broken monsters operate at the proper level.. I'd call that a balance.
If everything gotten stronger, with better drops all around.. I'd call it a "buff" if anything.
WHat the OP is complaining about..is a quirk in the spawn table.. nothing more. and if a single, low level, and obviously out of place monster is "ruining" his experience.. he has issues beyond farming.
Other than that is would just be nice if as a concensus, people would find more appropriate terms to use besides "NERF" for changes that we don't like. THe term has been completely over-used and almost pointless.

Wow, you really don't want to fight for your gold (literally)? Umm...yeah. I'm out.

Is it just me or do they totally bend you over and have their way with you when they enforce that EULA? I bet they could bust into my house and maybe steal my PC and it'd probably be legal according to the EULA. They pretty much own you when you agree to that EULA.

It's not even written in legal speech so I don't know why it's so hard to understand.
To say they 'own you' is ludacris. They own your account, and your $50.

The ice golems that spawn there arent even the lvl 22+ ones. They are the level 10 Ice golems merely meant to snare people trying to run through.
And take a look again, there are random mobs that spawn all over Tyria. (mostly to deter people from running through areas rather than fight)

OMG! A random monster has appeared in my path, the area is nerfed!
First, they made it so treasures were actually guarded by monsters rather than lying around for the taking, now their making the monsters more random. The grind is killing me! ARGH!
Why not just give us a map with thousands of piles of 1000 gold and all the weapon upgrades and runes scattered around to be picked up, guarded by those Aloe Seeds like in front of Ascalon City at the start of the game? Okay, maybe the Aloe Seeds would make it way too much grind. Put in a few of those friendly spiders like in Duke Barradin's vineyard. I don't see what's wrong with farming, why do they have to make it so damn difficult? Bah...

Underworld, Fissure of Woe, and the assorted PvP arenas are left for you to do, and if those don't appeal to you, you could always start another character.

The most obvious obstruction to stop farming that I've seen (and probably, also the most hillarious), was in Riverside where the pathway used by some friends of mine to farm was blocked -- by a huge tree. It wasn't there, then after one of the updates, a wiiiiiide and tall tree sprouted out of nowhere. Haha.
