Making money as a material trader?

I just got my 15k Aeromancer shirt, but I now need to save up for the rest of the gear and I'm looking for ways to make money.
One thing I discovered, while trying to get the Damask, is that I can make it for 350g per piece, but it sells from the rare material trader for 575g per piece.
That means, I can make 200g profit on each one if I sell them for 550.
That's 57% profit!
As long as there are people to buy the Damask from me of course.
Another one is Deldrimor Steel. I can make that for 685g, and it sells for 938 from the rare material trader when last I checked. So if I sell it for 900, that's 31% profit.

Anyone else found any good ways of making money? Other than farming or scamming?

I give up something someone told me. With some farming / buying it cheap.
Wood Planks -> Parchment -> Parchment to Material Trader (non-rare).

What's the story with this lost strongbox? Is it a chest that appears at the start of the Thunderhead Keep mission?

Thanks, to everybody who posted all the get-rich-quick bugs in a single thread for a game admin to stumble upon and begin using as an index. -_-

Oh, the lost strongbox. You want to know about the lost strongbox 'eh?

It's a fantastic secret.

More of an easter egg, once you know of it you'll know what I mean when they say that I doubt they'll EVER nerf it.

Go out the pass to thunderhead keep, and hold your alt button. To your right you should see a few small rock walls forming a circle with a tree in the middle.

If nothing is there, go back into town and come back out.

Repeat the process until by that tree is a chest called "The Lost Strongbox".

Go up, and open the lost strongbox. It drops between 1-3 items, mostly max or near-max damage wands, staffs, axes, swords, hammers, focus items, etc.

The only problem is you get a surprise when you open it, and picking up the items might result in your death.

Doing it solo might be difficult for anyone who can't take many hits, but just go out solo, slowly walk up to it...and you know, grab your loot and haul ass, because you won't live long if you don't.

Repeat the process.

It takes a fair bit of time just to get 1k from the strongbox so it's no big farming secret, I used to do it with my character who could hardly solo anything else. It was my only source of (pathetic) income. I'd say after about half an hour of going in and out, and picking up items, you might be able to get 1k or something. I do it when I'm bored for fun.

Now go...nobody can really be..."told" just what The Lost Strongbox is, you have to experience it's brilliance for yourself.

Now go!

omg, I see what you mean about a surprise!
I didn't even GET to open it!
When you say go out the pass to thunderhead keep, you mean go out of thunderhead keep, into ice floe.

[edit]
I got it open this time, and all that came out was a white Grim Cesta +12 Energy req. 8 Death Magic
Do you think it's contents have been nerfed?

Ya, I've been farming the Lost Strongbox for a long time. I've gotten some pretty good items too. However, it used to only take about 3 trys to make it appear in the begining. Now it takes usally 6 or 9 trys for it to appear. Anybody else have this problem?

Nah, it is sort of random.

I never really got a lot of good drops from it though, but when I need materials and am bored.. hey, gambling is exciting

Haven't looked in a while myself, I vaguely recall there being another one outside the Granite

Note: There used to be two unlocked chests in Dreadnought's Drift, as well as one in Ice Floe just outside the exit from Thunderhead Keep. These were removed in the March 2nd update.

Umm, the post you are replying too is from *2005* - don't you kinda think it is somewhat, maybe, possibly, no - even maybe possibly *likely* that an update changed it?

Maybe even the one that removed chests that do not need keys? Who would-a thunk it! No, couldn't have been that one. Better to reply to a thread over a year old and ask why it doesn't work. Of course, having a thread necromancy of 16 helps.

I assume you just did a search and didn't notice the date (edit - please do searches in the future also - just take the following advice into account), for a not so sarcastic answer - check you dates on posts. If they are that old chances are things have changed. It no longer spawns as of an update well over a year ago.

Actually he did think it was possible they changed it in an update. In fact, that's exactly what he asked!

It is often preferred to bump an existing thread on the subject rather than making a new one. He's doing what he's supposed to, you're being an ass.

lol no doubt ....when someone posts a question about something that has been post a bunch of times before...peeps start saying use the search feature blahblah....then when they do use the search and find a post about the topic they are looking for peeps call them noobs for bumping an old post...make up your mind trolls...which do you want? Noob Questions or Thread Necromancers????

(I have been guilty of both of these offenses...but will take corrective action in the future to play down my trollness)

A new thread asking if it still exists is still better than bringing back to life a 1.5 year old thread.

I'm fairly certain that most forum mods I've seen would prefer old threads to be resurrected, if and only if the person posting to the old thread is actually asking a valid question and/or contributing something new to the discussion (the latter would be difficult to do in an outdated thread though...). A new thread would be locked and the user told to do a search.

As is, this thread has descended into an argument about necromancy vs noob threads, so I'm thinking it's going to be locked or cleaned.

The question has been answered, and as the main discussion of the thread, regarding the removed chests, is no longer relevant to the current game, I'm going to close this.
