That's why I go back to my earlier argument that it would be nice if UPGRADES were dropped a bit more often, rather than "already maxed out" stuff. That way players could upgrade standard white stuff with what they think is important rather than for what is already on it. It would raise the value of "plain white" items and make farming for uber items less likely.

Now before anyone bites my head off: I realize that it seems to only transfer farming from the "whole" item to the upgrades. Maybe it would... I don't know. I just know that, even culling through all the items on just this one sell forum, I have only found one or two things that have the stuff on them that -I- want. *shrugs*

I agree 100%! You are right on the money! Finding cool items are part of the FUN of PvE! Not ALL of us want to break the economy...most of us just want to explore and get awesome stuff.

I wish that they would allow items being sold to merchants to be 'viewable' and 'purchaseable' by others in the area. If nothing else, just for a limited amount of time.

Better than that: Allow the merchants to sell decent stuff instead of the junk they DO sell. They're not very good merchants if they don't sell goodish stuff. I sort of think of Griswold in the original Diablo: He sold good stuff. You could find better, but you could also get pretty good stuff.

There could be alot of reasons why drops were a bit to good at the beginning and now are a bit scarce. IMO the current sytem seem's to be in line with the way things should be. Gold is incredibly easy to come by with a bit of effort and getting 10k a run is very possible. In the Prima guide it states that 1-3 rares are assigned to an area and generally the higher level monsters will hold them(but I believe this has changed since)and it also stated that the mob it was assigned to doesnt always drop that rare item. The way I see the current system is the way it is stated in the guide. I still farm but not for gold but for XP and unlockables. The one thing I have noticed lately is when I try to salvage good upgrades off of weapons, including rares, my success rate has seemed to drop to around 10%. The better the item, the less my chances of salvaging a component off of it but hey, I have a boat load of wood now

Here are things I hope to do in this game and the reason I enjoy framing.

---

1. Anyone who has ever had a gold drop, knows it is fun and exiting for some strage reason.

2. I hope to find great weapons for my characters

3. I want to have alot of gold.. who doesnt..

4. I need the gold to buy things, perhaps good weapons, or upgrades, armor, whatever.

5. Most importantly... ITS FUN! I enjoy going out to witmans folly and farming the grawl. Just too bad not too much ever comes out of it. (Especially since rune prices are soo low - I found a superior tactics, went to the trader, trader was selling it for 125 gold)

Anyone who "farms" would probably tell you those same things.

When we dont have favor, I am usually out killing stuff hoping for good drops.. what else is there to do.

Drops aren't as good? I dunno about now compared to the early days of GW since i've only been playin 2-3 weeks, but today I got 3 gold drops in 2 hours of playing, and usually get a very high rate of purple and blue.

you are all missing the point of why I started the thread.

I wasnt complainin about the QUALITY of drops. but the fact that so many creatures so quickly drop NOTHING AT ALL (No gold, no whites, no blues, no pruple, no golds, no materials, no collectables).

when you DO get a drop, the system for deciding what that drop is works well IMO. but the fact that no matter where I go, or what I do a full 40% (at least) drop NOTHING is stupid.

I have finished PvE. PvP sucks IMO (and is not why I baught the game).

All I do ingame now is change my armor, change the colors, but new and different LOOKING weapons and shields, and run from A-B killing things.

with this constant lack of anything dropped at all, making gold is hard, getting new weapons/shields/armor is REALLY HARD (bought or found).

I wouldn't put it past Anet to have coded item drops differently for different serial keys, to promote trade or engaging in other nonfarming activities. After all, it seems that the problems are consistent for one group, but the exact opposite is consistent for another, while some are in the middle.

well all I can say is I have well over 300 hours into this game so far. for a long time I was happy with the drops. I mean i never EVER had a perfect anything drop and it was rare to get any max dmg weapons and such but I atleast got some cool stuff, some decent to good quality stuff.

its been quite some time since I had any good drops at all. I mean its like all the monsters stopped dropping, or when they do its utter crap items. Im all about PvE and I enjoy playing out the missions and such but I also like to find good stuff while adventuring. Theres really no reward for my time any more. I can do this, do that...beats this mob, that mob, and what reward do I get? I find something, someplace out in the middle of no where...what do I get for my troubles? nada.

this game really does need to reward the PvE player a bit more.

First of all, the economy needs to get under control. Prices need to be lowered because anything going for over 100k is getting unreasonable. Lowering the drop rate is only going to make matters worse because the less of an item, the more demand for it there is.

There is a HUGE advantage for people who farmed before the patch changing drops was released. They were able to accumulate a hoarde of expensive weapons, upgrades, and items which they can now sell for an inflated price since drops are much more scarce. This is downright frustrating for anyone starting the game or anyone who hasn't been able to heavily farm.

As stated before, finding items is fun. I wouldn't mind if monsters that dropped items were EXTREMELY hard, as long as their drops matched their difficulty. Right now, there are almost no places you can go where the time and effort of killing a monster is worth the drop you receive from it.

The PvP aspect of the game seems like something to do other than PvE. The only reason I play PvP is because of boredom from playing PvE. I like to go and explore, and hope to possibly explore all of the map someday, but nothing seems to drop and it just seems to be a waste of time. Therefore, I choose to go play PvP, however, PvP is dull and boring with the same repetiveness.

In short, there is nothing left to do in the game. After it has been beaten, you are VERy limited as to what options you have. You can either farm/explore, (unworthwhile) make a new character, (when only 4 can be made) or PvP (which gets dull fast). I can't see buying any expansions for this game unless something is done to make more options available after you beat the game.

Anet said in a patch that they were going to eliminate the need for farming. Since then I have not done any farming. I have simply played the game, including going to UW and Fissure. It's not working out so well for me. I play every day for 4 or more hours. With 3 ascended characters, two of which are at Ring of Fire area, I have not found a single superior rune. Other than absorption and vigor I don't really care. It's just the idea of unlocking superiors. I've recently been doing PVP and looks like it'll be much faster/easier to just get the runes I want with faction. Since the nerfs and supposed "elimination of need to farm" I have not found anything of value. I used to find a rare every 2-3 days through normal gameplay, but now it's been two weeks and no rares for me. Maybe it's just bad luck though, I don't know.

Since I haven't been farming I don't know about no drops at all. I thought they fixed that in a previous patch and that all npcs drop something.

You and I are in the same boat, my first time through the game I got plenty of gold items playing through the game. It was sort of goofy and fun, "Oooh, a Furious Maul of Pruning!" Or those great items that required the skills from one class but boosted the skills from another (sure it'll help some people out, but finding them to trade with them is /rough/!).

Anyhow, I figured I'd just play through the game two more times to unlock all the skills and by that point AN would have their issues sorted out. Instead I'm left wishing that I /had/ farmed earlier since I cannot get the rares I need for the life of me. My new concern is that in some update they'll make it so you unlock items by completing missions and quests. Then having beaten the game 3 times will have been a waste....

I don't really agree with you here. I think their system for deciding what properties an Uncommon or Rare item has sucks, plain and simple.

I have over 700k XP on my Monk. I have finished the game with my Mo/E and my W/Mo and done a bunch of PvP as well as repeated many missions with my finished characters.

Two days ago I found a Purple Max Dmg Holy Rod!! I was doing a skill capture run with my W/Mo in Mineral Springs...this is the first Holy Rod I have found that has not been White or Blue. I was very excited...I finally thought I had found a good Holy Rod for my Monk to use...THEN I IDENTIFIED IT!!

It was a Purple Max Dmg Holy Rod...that was it...no mods...nothing at all to justify the different color....it's just a common piece of crap in a purple wrapper.

This is not the first or only time this type of thing has happened. It's very common for me to find uncommon or rare items with no special stats or with mods you can find in the Old Ascalon areas (lower level stuff) that I've had drop from level 24+ mobs.

I really hope they amend their loot system because it currently stinks and no longer conforms to the advertised promises on the game box (reduced grind factor).

I have yet to experience a large number of mobs yielding no drops whatsoever but I also dont go out farming much anymore. I currently play to unlock stuff for a future PvP only character I'm going to make.

IMHO the huge and knee-jerk-nasty farming nerf has sucked 60% of the fun/replayability right out of the game. Unlocking everything is sort of fun in its own right but I like having the skills on my PvE characters so that I can play them in PvP too...seems stupid to spend hundreds of hours unlocking stuff just to scrap your PvE character completely in favor of an insta-20 rag doll.

So I just did 2 different farm runs with my monk, one in talus chute on the trolls, now.......when you drop 15 lvl24 trolls you'd expect to get SOMETHING out of it right????

WRONG!!!

Know what I got, 2 white crappy raven staffs....wanna know the last time I was in talus chute? Last week!

I also went to riverside to do a farm run on the tengus, 12 of them too, don't remember what level, guess what I got, one, 1 a single blue armor....out of a dozen??? Not even a caromi scalp?

Anet....please explain?

I completely agree with miyamoto, I'm pushing 2 millionXP between 4 characters, I've done all there is to do, explored almost every part of the world except deep deep into the underworld so I farm for fun (spare me the dribble on whether its right or wrong) and no matter what I do, how I do it, or where I do it drops are garbage.

Don't nerf it......fix it! Make it so I don't need to farm to buy the max dmg fellblade or whatnot for weeks on end.

Im actually getting pretty close to believing this. Inspired by the post on the "Gryphon Run" I went back and logged on my dust collecting warrior and recreated a few runs in a few different accessible places. In 30 minutes I recieved 3 GOLD items, 5 PURPLE items, and a Black Dye.

Now in the last 2-3 weeks playing my Ranger I did not recieve ONE SINGLE GOLD WEAPON and only a couple of purples playing through the game completely legit with no effort made to any kind of farming.

This is distressing and it makes you wonder if there is a drop bug of some kind or certain characters have a innate drop % attached to them to promote trading or something like stated above.

It's baffling the hell out of me because it is completely illogical. My Ranger gets drops like he has been farming nonstop rarely recieving even light blue items and nothing but rods and other crap yet my warrior was recieving all kinds of stuff even after racking up dozens of fast kills.

WTF is up with this?

Whenever i use my warrior i always end up getting bows and staves as drops or necromancer runes. That is when i actually get drops to happen. I commonly get more collector items than even gold drops usually. I have nearly more unlocked/salvaged bowstrings than i do all melee weapons combined. Generally i end up just selling it to a vender, because i honestly had no use for poisioner's bowstring, sundering bowstring, bowgrip of enchanting, or defense and have no desire to stand around and try to be a merchant. I had a rather large collection of enchanter's staff wrappings and fortitude, but i ended up giving those away to guildmates. Its kind of sad actualy, the only weapon rune ive unlocked is major hammer mastery, i havent even found a minor absorbtion yet. Conversly though, im only missing a superior death and curses out of necromancer runes... My first gold rune drop was a superior soul reaping, talk about let downs.

But lately, i havent really been getting anything worthwhile. Quite commonly getting blue, purple, and sometimes gold drops with nothing on it. This is basically caused me to stop trying to get the drops anymore and tried out the different pvp venues more. However, the more i did pvp, the more i realized how much the better upgrades were and im left in a state of apathy as to if i should keep trying or just do something else for ~3 months until everything gets sorted out.

On a sidenote though, my friend who primirally played a monk seemed to be having a bad day if he managed not to get at least 3 rune drops in an area solo farming... He has since moved on from GW though, for the time being as he is rather frustrated with the game.

The prices for uber rares and uniques will go through the roof with their increasing scarcity. That should please those who want all the gold in the world. I, for one anyhow, would be MUCH more willing to pay through the nose for something that I knew for a fact was ULTRA rare.
But unfortunately the players who have exploited the system earlier has already amassed such a vast amount of wealth and control so much of the economy... that we just can't keep up anymore.

For one thing:
1) Gold drops are rare
2) GOOD gold drops are RARER still!

I really hope ANet would tweak their item randomizing code a little (or whatever.. I presume item stats are randomly generated) so that rare items at least have some stats worthy of the "rare" qualifier.

Like the other time.. "Ooooo!!! Rare staff!" *picks it up and IDs it*

+2 to energy?! That's it?

Heck, even my collector staff does a lot better, and it is merely a blue item!

Very true, Generik. I stand corrected since those who have already (are already) exploiting the drops by selling at outrageous prices already have inventories stuffed with items, it really wouldn't do much for the economy.

I also agree with the WTF on the things that I -have- found. I just did a Chute run through those thousands of trolls and giants near Droknar's and got....2 plain white staves and about 500gp. That's just not right since I'm a lowly 20 playing with henchies and these guys are 24s!

You complain too much. Really. I've seen good stuff drop, I've gotten good stuff. But I do not expect to find gold max damage weapon for my class *and* with good mods on every mission. Still, I got a new one to replace one from collector. It's nowhere near as bad as you make it sound. Your expectations are too high. While I don't expect an uberdrop or even a 'normal' drop from every monster, it would be nice to find some nice stuff occasionally. That the drop rate for decent...not UBER, just better-than-average...seems to have dropped off dramatically is interesting and a bit disturbing.

That said, I agree with the earlier poster who said that whatever AN does to 'punish' exploiters is A-OK in my book. Besides, it forces me to know my character and apply skill to my play. Since I don't have the best of the best stuff, I have to actually think whilst I play.

all I want is to be rewarded for my time spent playing. I will never play GvG or PVP. I bought this game for PvE only. so far I have to admit this is the best game I have ever played. no game in the history of "me" has kept me so happy that I would play 300+ hours on in only a couple of months. when i was a kid and played D&D I used to love going through an adventure and when i was lucky enough to make it through, i would be rewarded greatly.

I just want to better my character with out having to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars. through adventure I should be able to be rewarded fairly. I don't need a perfect rare gold drop all the time, but for christ's sake give me SOME kind of reward.

I noticed this with my warrior after 3 or 4 runs I started getting less and less drops. But my Ranger is getting drops this infrequently ALL THE TIME no matter which mission or zone I go to.

I killed over 1 dozen minotaurs and they all dropped something for my warrior 3 runs in a row but when I bring on my Ranger and kill anything with poison and bleeding I'm lucky if 1 in 4 mobs drops something.

100% agree with Kaylynn.

PVE'rs typically play MMOs for three reasons, all equally important:
1. the community
2. the fun of exploring new content
3. the excitement of obtaining new loot (and/or the coolest loot)

The third factor is incredibly important, especially to maintain longevity. I have only played GWs casually but have one character at the Ring of Fire in the best gear she can wear, wielding some of the best weapons she can wield. Given I haven't found a great raport with the community (in my opinion it just isn't as colorful or fun as other MMO communities, no offense to all the folks on this board - who are amongst the few who actually DO lend a sense of community), the only reason I'm still playing is that (a) I haven't beaten the final mission and (b) I'm not 100% certain I have the absolute BEST weapon. I'll beat the final mission within 2 weeks time, even playing casually. At that point the only reason I will keep playing this game is for loot.

Maybe I'm unusual, but I don't think so. Anet needs to realize that for serious (or casual!) PVE'rs, we will continue playing your game even after we've "beaten" the content solely for the loot factor. GW has the saddest loot system I've ever seen in a MMO.

I don't see loot on any other MMO game boxes either. SWG does not mention "loot" anywhere...but we get it if we play. we are rewarded.

you know, I dont think expecting to get some type of drop (say 10g at least) from a creature (especially those higher than level 18) is putting expectations too high at all. again, for the THIRD TIME. I am not talking about get that uber l33t godly max felldlade from every missions/run im talking about going to an area you have not been to in a long time, only to get half the creatures drop NOTHING. N-O-T-H-I-N-G (there I spelt it so perhaps you will SEE it) at all.

as MANY have said here, its all about rewards for spending time playing the game.

I, like others, am totally for the PvE side of game. and what was a fun and rewarding game when I baught it has become a waste of time really.

I guess Anet knows that despite the fact that they F*cked the PvE side, GW is still far better than other online games mainly due to no fee. so alot of us will keep coming back *HOPING* they have fixed the issues, only to see a lean towards PvP.

I mean sure, they add quests and change names for PvE, but if your level 20 PvE'er experience is not really that big of a deal.

how about fixing the stuff WE PvE'ers are complaining about.

Ive ran across a few mobs that dont drop anything but it is usually the first mob I hit. After that things are pretty normal. I even go through the same areas a few times in a row and have yet to see any dramatic change in drops. Look me up in game and I can show you what I mean, my in game name is the same as here.
