It takes your health and the enemies health, adds those numbers together, halves it, and gives you both that amount in health (You can't have more than your maximum health though). It most likely is the current health of both of you, not max health or percentages.
Edit: it can only do your maximum amount of life in damage.

skill description says... it adds it on top of your maximum health.. which sounds strange but ok.. how it works simply said.
let's say someone has 480 HP and you have 400
than he'll lose 40 and you'll gain 40

You can't go over your max health.
stumpy
actually what it does is ...
takes your health ex. 140
and then takes your opponents health ex. 400
finds the difference ex. 260
adds half that difference to your health and deletes that from your opponents health.
Graneths Balance is only useful if you are lower health than your opponent. Otherwise you could lose health.

kk good to know, they should update the description
and else it'd prolly be abused anyways. You could just put in a lot of superior runes n use it at the start.

Unfortunately a couple of my friends have thought of the superior runes, they were all down about it after I explained the max health part.
Say you have 200/400 of your health due to... getting hit by a rock, and your opponent has a full 400/400. I believe grenths will make it up to a even 300 - 300, since half of the 200 hp is 100... Gain 100, he loses 100.

Grenth's can deal MASSIVE damage to pve bosses, it will usually deal max dmg if you use it early or are hurt. Max damage can be raised with that necro ability that boosts max hp, not only does it boost max hp, but it lowers current hp, raising grenth's dmg even more.

Grenth's is extremely useful in some PvE situations. I've done 500+ damage with it against the bonus boss in Dragon's Lair.

The trick is to deplete your own health quickly right as you start a fight using high-sacrifice necro skills, and THEN slam home a Grenth's. All the fun of casting some great necro spells, getting your hp back, and doing some nasty damage on the side!

Agreed. Glint, right after you first capture the skill. This is the most usful ability of the skill. Due to it's difficult nature to design builds around.
The Red Knight
blood renewal and other sacrifice spells perfect for a dark aura build D:

One thing to try with this is Blood Renewal, then Demonic Flesh, then Grenth's Balance. You'll lose 53% of your health, but gain 150+ max health.
toastgodsupreme
Hit Blood is Power twice, then grenths. Rinse and repeat for each member of the opposing team.
The trick here is to have an Ele/Necro with energy storage and probably air for spiking.
Cast BiP on two team mates. Now you're down to 33% health. Then glyph of renewal, then Grenth's. Follow Grenth's up with some air spikes and you have a dead person REAL fast.
Rinse and repeat as much as you can with your energy.
Edit: shit, can't do two elites. Ok, so drop the glyph. No biggie. You just spiked the shit out of someone who's probably dead and can continue to do damage with air or whatever skills while grenth's recharges.

blood is power , grenths balance, and the glyph are all elites

The new grenth balance is different and I think its not worthy even to call an elite skill.Go Life Transfer! Discuss!

Well, Grent's balance got 1/4 casting time so you can SHOT it just the right moment to save you ass.
You're at 100 hp, enemy is full 480. 380 difference, - 190 (half), so you gain 190 and he gets down by 190. It is so fast to cast (almost a shout/stance) that you can be distracted only if dazed or in distracting DoT spell. If the enemy is same hp as you or less - it does nothing.
The idea is to heal yourself and damage the enemy with 1/4 cast spell. It really can save yo butt.
Life transfer got 2 secs cast and it gets regeneration/degen. When you are about to die from more hp char than you Grent is the better choise, and if you are same or more hp than the enemy - Life transfer can do the trick.
