Bonus Only under false pretense
ZigZag Rollmeister
Wow.....all I can say is that my previously subpar experiences with PUG's has reached new depths. I've heard about cases like this, but by either a freak of nature, a natural disaster, or an epidemic of ignorance, 3 out of the 4 PUGs I joined yesterday had at least one player who just logged out of our missions once the bonus was completed.
If you are having a hard time finding a group for BONUS ONLY and you decide to join a 'mission' group, don't be a little expletive and shaft the people who made it possible for you to get the bonus. Most of the missions are almost finished once the bonus is complete anyway. Plus, doing it now only increases the chances that another little expletive will do the same to you when your twinking your 2nd, 3rd, and 4th characters.
For the half-dozen of you who selfishly screwed my teams yesterday.....May you get pwned repeatedly in every online game you ever play for the rest of your sorry, uninteresting life. Selfish, thoughtless people like you are responsible for most of the problems with online games today.

I've had to resort to completing Missions again in order to obtain that Bonus that I missed the first time through. Never once have I just left after the bonus, and it's just bad etiquette to do so.

I'm sorry this happened to you, ZigZag. There -are- good people out here. Find us!
rotor
At that list you might whant to add ...
Person that rush the dragon mission while some person has not cap their skill.
Some one talking to the ghost in fow or uw and then leaving.
Some skill cap group that the person leaves after they have gotten their cap.
I had to finish some missions with only 3 persons, (group of 6) you get some satisfaction when you finish it.

Skill capping people are the same way. I was forming a PUG for Thunderhead (probably my least favorite mission in the game) and someone messaged me asking to come with for a skill capture. I told them that we were going to do the /whole/ mission but if they agreed not to drop after capping their skill, then they could join. So they nabbed their elite and then started saying things like, "oh no, my lag! my lag!". 2 minutes later he shouts, "noooo!" and drops (which pretty much meant that the PUG had to restart). While I do know that people do have lag problems, there's not a chance that I believe that person.

Heh, reading rotor's response got me to remember once instance yesterday.
I was taking along a four person group in The Great Northern Wall with my 20 R/N, just to try out my new bow and pure ranger build (10 in BM thanks to a Superior BM rune for 137g at the Rune Trader!). 3/4ths of the way to doing the bonus, one of the guys left because "it was taking too long". Well, it gave me a small measure of satisfaction that he didn't get the extra 1000 exp for just waiting for 10 more minutes. I was kinda offended, but in the end, he lost out, and the group I was taking around got the bonus. Also, one of them didn't know about the Bonuses, so it was "eye-opening" to say the least. More than a few of the groups I went with when I first started GW were people that had done it before, and they were all nice people. I've had a few dropped people, sure, but none so blatant as to ditch right after the bonus. They'd just ditch out of nowhere.
It kinda sucks to see that, reading in this forum, most of the groups going out were swathed in idiocy and selfishness.

lol....yesterday I did the Mission at Northern Wall...so I could get the bonus. At the end I just stayed and fought the char. Flame Trap + Barbed Trap + Dust Trap + Ignite Arows + Tigers Fury....there were alot of dead char.
I always stay to finish the mission if I'm just doing bonus...you owe it to the team.

Lately I was doing the bonus I haven't done with my char... my msg was clear bonus only.. and once the bonus was done, if the people were nice and the mission wasn't done, I would finish it.. in fact, i finished 3 out of 3 times I did the bonus only thing !
I love helping people around.. and I am amazed on how people are selfishly sometimes!

I agree that there are people that join groups for selfish reasons. THere are missions that I have completed without getting the bonus and I want to go back and get them, however, it is hard find people that want the bonus solely sometimes. Add people getting experiences like that of the OP, and it makes it even more difficult since some will not trust you.
Zeru
The obsession with bonus is just absurd. I'm sure there are some people out there who want that perfect game and therefore want the bonuses done; nothing wrong with that. But there are just so many newbies who think the 1k xp is actually a big deal and will go out of their way on a mission like the wilds, where it is hard for the average bad player, to try to complete and die in the process. I'm really not sure how this misconception has spread so much...it is kinda sad though as group after group dies trying to complete a totally unnecessary bonus just for a worthless amount of xp that a month ago could've been obtained in around a minute in certain places.
Esprit
I've seen it more the other way around. I'd get a group together soley typing out "LFG for bonus only". I'd get a group together and halfway through, someone would ask 'What are we doing?', I'd say 'the bonus', and they'd respond 'oh, I need to do the mission still...can we do it'. I'd say, 'no, this was bonus only' and they'd respond 'f you, stoopid n00b' and disconnect.

Early on, 1000exp is a nice boost to ones EXp bar and therefore an incentive to complete bonus. I just like to do them for the skill/experience of completing them at least once.
However, the bonus missions dont do anything overall worth while. Like you said, later on in the game you can get more exp doing other things than just bonus in a mission.

But that's the whole point, you *could* get that 1k xp in certain places BEFORE. But now, a bonus rewards you for going a little out of your way and accomplishing a certain task. That 1k net xp is a lot for a person at lvl10. I know I went through trial and trouble to complete any and all bonuses until I reached the Wilds.
An "easy" 1k exp from missions like the Northern Wall just makes it easy for new players. But those same new players sometimes get it into their heads that the bonus is going to be just as easy for *all* the missions. Which, is why I dont like the word "bonus". I'd rather say it was a "secondary objective", which makes it sound harder than a "bonus" game of Guild Wars...whereas I usually label that thought with the mini games that I play in Mario Party. =P

Bonus missions are worth more than just the 1000XP you get for completing them. Any n00b (hardly an insult, but if you say so...) can tell you that you get XP for all the mobs killed en route, not mentioning loot drops and gold, as well as possible caps. Plus, half the bonus missions are 'on the way' or at least 'near the way', which is no different than gathering all the Piken Square missions and doing them all at once.
And if you're going back to do Ruins of Surmia Bonus with your lvl 20 supertoon, yes it's true, you don't get the XP for killing things, THEN it becomes a measly 1000 XP, but also it becomes a bit more fulfilling because the person actually believes in finishing what he/she started....unlike the other n00bs like you as per the ignoramus maximi in the OP.
Divinitys Creature
I wanted to cap in thunderhead keep told the group that and that I would do the whole mission, and everyone said they were gonna do the whole mission. Two jerks capped, one of them cussed and both dropped. Then while we were battling when the mursaat mobs start coming in the team splits off into 3 when the six of us were well co-ordinated before arGGGGGGGGGh! Henchies rock. Sometimes when I do decide to take a pug through a harder mission with me since the henchies won't benefit, this sort of stuff happens and it's very annoying. Sometimes I meet very nice people too though.
dreamcrafter
I just completed a bonus in the shiverpeak area (the one where you have to kill the ice drake). I was looking for a bonus only party but couldn't find one, so I tagged along with a mission+bonus party. I got no exp during the whole affair (lvl 16 ranger), only for the bonus. so when we had the bonus, I asked the party if they still needed me (they had a lvl 19 with them, so I figured that they should be able to handle it) or if it was okay if I left. they asked me to stay, so I accompanied them the rest of the way...
that' how things should work in my opinion!

I have no problem finishing bonus missions and then schlepping along with the party. It's no experience but it's fun to play with others. That's what the game's for, IMHO.
EmperorTippy
I usally do the whole mission even if I only need a SoC or a bonus. The only times I don't are when I advertise in advance that I can't do the whole mission and that I can only come for whatever I said. An example is when I went to capture the monk skill in Dragon's Lair.
Miss Bailing
Oh man, this happened to me so much when I first went to the Dragon's Lair. People would just bounce out after they got their stuff. Or when you're doing the first few missions at Fire Island and people just leave after they cap their elites to go farm. UGH!

Zeru: I am one of those who are Obsessed with BONUS!
It drives me mad when I look at my map and see I think 4 remaining shields without the extra sword behind them. All 3 of the Isle of Fire ones lack bonus, as well as Dunes of Despair.
I will do them, though. If it's the last thing I do!!

or maybe...just a thought here so bear with me for a second....but just maybe they want to try something difficult....they might just want to get the most bang for their 50 bucks...which includes finishing all the missions and the related bonus....that couldn't possibly be it who would spend 50 bucks and THEN actually play the game.
Aniewiel
I agree, Algren, that it is not 'obsessive' to want to finish all the missions, quests and bonuses. That's called 'playing the game to its highest potential' and does make the 50 dollars more than well-spent. Maybe the 1k XP isn't a big deal but that's not really the point, is it? I mean, after you're a level 20, you can cap your skills much faster in the end portions of the game and in the underworld. Completing all quests and bonuses is just for the right to say, " I DID IT!"
Sekkira
It annoys me when someone tells me "You're level 20, you don't need to do the bonus.". No shit sherlock, but if I should never do it, why is it there? It is an objective, something to complete, to accomplish. That alone will get me motivated enough to do it. Don't tell me that just because it holds no practical use, I shouldn't do it. I mean, I can buy the skills at the trainer instead of doing quests too, so why do the quests then?
aknox
once half of my party left
it was fun to do the rest of the mission only with 3 people tho and i didn't have to do everythin all over again

Yep, that happened to me too, Aknox. I think it was The Wilds mission and 2 dropped as soon as we got in (they were guildmates so go figure ), one gave the ol' "GtG" message 2/3s of the way through. I was ready to give it up but we had one terrific cheerleader who encouraged us to 'try anyhow'. His logic was, if we died, we were no worse off. Know what? He was right. We finished the mission in fine form and each breathed a silent prayer that the creeps we'd partied with had to do it over and over again.
nechronius
Over the weekend I was in a party on the Ring of Fire mission where one of two monks left/dropped very early on shortly followed by the party's only elementalist. The remaining composition was one monk and five warriors and the monk wasn't infused or particularly communicative (and he was party leader!).
The odds were stacked against us but somehow we managed to battle our way and completed the mission. I still keep in contact with one of the warriors who had a really good head on his shoulders. Later we went on to beat Hell's Precipice with just the two of us and henchmen.
